DAVIE Isaiah Prince Jersey nfl draft , Fla. (AP) — The home crowd still loves Ryan Tannehill, even if lately he hasn’t given Miami Dolphins fans much to cheer about.Tannehill’s wife recently gave birth to the couple’s first daughter, Stella. They also have a 2-year-old son, Steel.“We’re settling in nicely to a family of four,” Tannehill said after practice Wednesday. “I put a lot of time and energy and effort into what I do here. But whether it’s good or bad, I go home and my little guy runs up to me — ‘Daddy! Daddy!’ — and it definitely warms your heart and puts a smile on your face.”That’s in contrast to the frowns Tannehill’s play has elicited lately, and he knows it. He performed poorly in ugly losses the past two weeks, inspiring hopeful talk among his many detractors that 2018 will be the final season for the Dolphins’ Tannehill era.To quiet the critics, he’ll need a dramatic turnaround Sunday for Miami (3-2) against the Chicago Bears (3-1) and their No. 2-ranked defense. And he might not have a lot of help up front, with two linemen out for the season and left tackle Laremy Tunsil limited in practice after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s loss at Cincinnati.Tannehill’s offense has scored only one touchdown in each of the past two games. To go with the sputtering attack, he had three turnovers in the second half against the Bengals , with two of them returned for scores.“I have to play better,” Tannehill said. “I have to take care of the football. That’s what it comes down to, eliminating the turnovers. You eliminate those and we’ll be in good shape.”Doing so with the offensive line so banged up will be a challenge, because a longstanding knock on Tannehill is that he’s prone to poor decisions when facing pass-rush pressure. This year it has been a problem for Tannehill only recently, coach Adam Gase said.“I thought we were good the first three weeks,” Gase said. “He had some touchdown passes when he had pressure. We just had a couple of bad choices Chandler Cox Miami Dolphins Jerseys , this last game especially.”Gase has been Tannehill’s staunchest defender since becoming coach in 2016, and there’s no sign of his loyalty wavering. The backup quarterbacks are journeyman Brock Osweiler and the unproven David Fales, so there has been no speculation Tannehill might be benched. But his salary cap hit in 2019 is $26.6 million, which is sure to influence the Dolphins’ decision about whether to bring him back next year. There’s still lots of time to salvage this strange season, which has the Dolphins tied for the AFC East lead even though they have been outgained by 472 yards. Tannehill said he can lead a turnaround by tempering his tendency to be too aggressive at times in his decisions.“That’s what got me in some trouble last week,” he said. “It’s hard, right? You want to stay on the attack. You want to be the aggressor. It’s kind of anti-intuitive to come off the gas and have a big-picture mentality. That’s something I have to work at and will get better at.”After 82 career starts, Tannehill’s still pledging to improve. While we will spend the week looking at mock drafts and trying to figure out who the Miami Dolphins will select next Thursday Miami Dolphins Jerseys 2019 , we will also spend time getting a little better look at some of those prospects.Today, we add the second prospect to this series. After a look at Florida tackle Jawaan Taylor, we will now get a closer look at Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. Could - or should - the Dolphins select Wilkins with the 13th overall pick?Christian Wilkins bioAge: 23 (Dec. 20, 1995)Born: Springfield, MassachusettsHigh School: Suffield Academy, Suffield, ConnecticutCollege: ClemsonAt Clemson, Wilkins started his career with 11 appearances as a true freshman. In four seasons, he recorded 192 tackles with 40.5 of them for a loss, along with 16 sacks, 14 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. He also had two career rushing touchdowns and a touchdown reception. He won two National Championships in that span, appearing in the title game three times. He was a unanimous All-American in 2018 and was a First-Team selection in 2016 and 2017. He won the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2018 as the college football player with the best combination of academics, community service, and on-field play. He won the Bill Willis Trophy in 2017 as the top defensive lineman in college football. He also did this:Christian Wilkins measurablesHeight: 6’3”Weight: 315 lbs.Arms: 32-1/2”Hands: 9-3/4”40-yard dash: 5.04Bench press: 28Vertical jump: 29.5Broad jump: 107.020-yard shuttle: 4.55What they are sayingLance Zierlein, NFL.com - Desired combination of athleticism Chandler Cox T-Shirts Jersey , production and character with the ability to fit into a stop unit that already has some pieces in place. Wilkins is a slippery, upfield three-technique with the ability to make plays outside his area. He plays with low pads allowing for optimal disruption leverage in the gaps, but he needs to be paired with an attacking front as he lacks the length and strength to hold his ground as a read-and-react tackle. He’s busy and agile as a rusher, which could keep him on the field for more snaps. Comparison: B.J. HillJoe Marino, The Draft Network - Wilkins projects favorably to a three-technique role in a 4-3 defense where his leverage, burst, hand technique and flexibility can be used in a penetration-style role. With that said, he isn’t limited to that role and can function in a variety of techniques while offering playmaking upside against the run and pass. Wilkins does have some limitations because he doesn’t play with great extension and his processing skills can stand to improve. Wilkins has played in nearly 60 college games and should be able to step in right away as an impact starter. His football character and intangibles make him a culture-changing addition to an NFL locker room.Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports - Wilkins can play over center or as a 1 or 2-technique but he also shows speed to shoot the gaps and regularly requires double-teams. He has an effective swim move to beat one-on-one interior linemen to get into backfield and he has a good motor, never giving up on play, hustles downfield to make tackle. Not as explosive or strong as Quinnen Williams but consistent, surprisingly quick and smart. Was also the personal protector on the punt team and even took a snap at safety in the 2018 spring game. Can disappear during stretches and struggles to hold up against double teams, though he had no problem against Alabama here:Charlie Campbell, Walter Football - In the pass rush, Wilkins is dangerous. He is a quick defender at the point of attack with the ability to fire his gap. He uses his strength to push through blocks and can close in an instant on the quarterback. Wilkins has a burst to fire by guards into the backfield and the strength to bull rush through linemen. He has good hand usage and shows some variety in pass-rushing moves to get after the quarterback. Wilkins has displayed excellent versatility during college in terms of rush production from a variety of positions and techniques. While he played a lot of end in 2016, Wilkins really doesn’t have edge-rusher speed for the NFL. He will have to rush from the inside as a pro, but that is his natural position anyway and he presents a speed mismatch when rushing against guards. Wilkins is a solid run defender Infant Chandler Cox Jersey , too. He has a strong, thick lower body to hold his ground at the point of attack. He fills his gap and can be tough to move at the line of scrimmage. Wilkins is able to eat up his block and prevent holes from opening up. Regularly, you will see him shed his block to stuff a run near the line of scrimmage or fire into the backfield to disrupt a run off the snap. He also will give an effort to make tackles in the ground game downfield. Wilkins has a quality motor, and you don’t see him dogging it.For the next level, Wilkins fits any defense. His best fit would be as a three-technique defensive tackle in a 4-3 defense. In a 4-3, he also could play end and nose tackle. Wilkins additionally has the length and strength to play end in a 3-4 defense. With Wilkins’ excellent skill set, production, and years of impressive performances against top competition, he looks like a safe pick and a lock to be a top-25 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Comparison: Fletcher Cox.Video breakdowns and filmShould Dolphins be interested?Like with Taylor, this is an easy yes for the Dolphins. They need to address the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and if they are looking for a defensive line prospect, Wilkins could be the perfect choice. He has the skills and potential to play anywhere on the line, in either a 4-3 or a 3-4 front, which could fit perfectly in head coach Brian Flores’ hybrid/versatile defensive system. Add in Miami defensive line coach Marion Hobby, who before a two year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars was Clemson’s co-defensive coordinator and defensive ends coach from 2011 to 2016 - which included the first two years of Wilkins’ time at the school - and you have a connection that should let Miami know exactly what they would be getting with the selection.

The Rams also were able to come to terms with EDGE Dante Fowler, Jr., who will likely sign the deal today and make his return official on a one-year deal. But for fans looking for another splashy deal, they’re likely to be disappointed today as the Rams simply don’t have much money to work with moving forward.OverTheCap has the Rams with $8,767,895 remaining in cap space while Spotrac puts the number at $9 John Johnson Jersey ,563,193. Factoring in somewhere around $7.5m for the Rams’ 2019 NFL Draft class, and you’re not talking about a ton of available funds. The Rams could always churn the back half of the roster for some available money. And restructuring some existing deals is always an option. But for the most part, the Rams are just about done in free agency just as we’re beginning. If I were making a bet, I’d start by looking at the Rams’ impending UFA class:2019 LA Rams impending free agentsPlayerPOSTypeOutcomePlayerPOSTypeOutcomeYes, we can likely assume that LG Rodger Saffold III, DL Ndamukong Suh and S Lamarcus Joyner are all gone. And yes, as mentioned, Fowler’s about to come back on a one-year look. But the rest of those options offer a possible way forward over the next week or two. Backup QB remains a pretty severe roster gap. As expensive as it can be to fill with a veteran, the Rams are likely to fill it with a draft pick or UDFA along with the deep FA waters perhaps to be stocked by some AAF players. While RB C.J. Anderson’s production late in the regular season and into the playoffs has made him popular among the fan base, I’m not sure it would be a prudent move especially now that the Rams have tendered RB Malcolm Brown. So I’d look at a couple of Rams from 2018: DE Dominique Easley Gerald Everett Jersey , ILB Bryce Hager, CB Sam Shields, DE Ethan Westbrooks and ILB Ramik Wilson. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rams brought one of those guys back.I’d also allow some expectation for the Rams to find one of those types on the market the way they did with Wilson and Shields last year. But a CB Cody Sensbaugh or OLB Connor Barwin, like the Weddle signing, is too expensive at this point. That’s not a bad thing either despite how uncomfortable it might feel to some fans. The Rams are spending more than $40m on a half dozen players they had in 2018. That’s essentially where their salary cap went this year.So fret not. The roster’s in great shape for years to come. If the Rams can draft well with their primary draft capital this year and next, there’s no reason to think the roster will inhibit their ability to win.But as things stand heading into free agency today, the Rams aren’t likely to do much to attract attention. For a team coming out of the Super Bowl, that’s just fine. Here are some others:JUAN MARICHALAug. 22, 1965: Juan Marichal hit John Roseboro in the head with a bat. After a high and inside pitch by the Dodgers' Sandy Koufax, Roseboro's return throw whizzed close to Marichal's ear. Roseboro, his mask still on, moved toward the Giants' Marichal, who then swung his bat and hit Roseboro on the head. The attack opened a bloody, two-inch gash. Roseboro grabbed Marichal, both benches emptied and a 15-minute scuffle ensued. Marichal was ejected and apologized the next day. Roseboro left the game at Candlestick Park with a blood-soaked towel pressed against his head and returned to the lineup three days later.Penalty: Marichal was suspended for eight games (he missed two starts) and fined $1,750 by the National League. Roseboro later sued Marichal for $110,000 in damages. Lions players adopted a "99 call," a policy where all members of the team would gather to retaliate if they felt the opposition were being too physical and trying to injure players. Lions fullback JJ Williams at one point ran halfway down the field to launch himself at Johannes van Heerden. Scuffles all over the field ensued.Penalty: No Lions player was ejected during the tour and the visitors returned home with a 3-0 win in the test series.KERMIT WASHINGTONDec. 9, 1977: Rockets forward Kermit Washington punched Rudy Tomjanovich in the face during a fight at midcourt in a game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston. Tomjanovich ran in to try to play peacemaker. Instead, he took a hard right-hand punch from Washington that knocked him out. Tomjanovich eventually needed multiple operations to repair facial fractures. He also suffered a concussion and other serious injuries. Tomjanovich returned the next season, though was never the same player again.Penalty: Washington was fined $10,000 and suspended at least 60 days (26 games). At the time, the suspension was the longest in NBA history.ERIC CANTONAJan. 25, 1996: Manchester United's Eric Cantona already had a checkered record when he was ejected for a retaliatory kick at a Crystal Palace defender who had pulled his shirt. As he walked along the sideline, Cantona suddenly jumped feet-first over the advertising boards to attack Palace fan Matthew Simmons. The pair traded punches before Cantona was hauled away and escorted toward the tunnel by teammate Peter Schmeichel.Penalty: Cantona was arrested by police and convicted of assault, although he successfully appealed a two-week jail sentence and instead completed 120 hours of community service. United suspended Cantona for the rest of the season and the Football Association extended the ban to eight months, a punishment that was made worldwide by FIFA. Cantona also lost the captaincy of the France national team over the incident and never played for his country again. The player later said he was wrong to attack Simmons but acknowledged that it had given him "a great feeling."MIKE TYSONJune 28, 1997: Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield's ear in the third round of their heavyweight rematch. The attack led to his disqualification from the match and suspension from boxing, and was the strangest chapter yet in the champion's roller-coaster career.Penalty: Tyson was suspended permanently and fined $3 million. He appealed his suspension and was reinstated one year later.JEFF VAN GUNDYApril 30, 1998: Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy, trying to play peacemaker during a brawl, grabbed Heat center Alonzo Mourning by the legs and was tossed around like a rag doll until the fight ended.Penalty: Larry Johnson and Chris Mills of New York and Mourning were suspended one game. He returned to play several weeks later.Penalty: McSorley was suspended indefinitely by the NHL, missing the final 23 games of the season. On Oct. 4, 2000, a Canadian court found him guilty of assault and placed him on probation with no jail time. After the conviction, the suspension was extended to a full year, and McSorley never played in another NHL game.ROY KEANEApril 21, 2001: Roy Keane, one of soccer's most colorful characters, was punished for a foul and then punished again. Keane launched a two-footed, knee-high challenge on Alfie Inge Haaland.Penalty: Initially, Keane was banned for three matches. But the English Football Association charged Keane with bringing the game into disrepute in September 2002 when Keane later admitted to deliberately setting out to injure Haaland. "I'd waited almost 180 minutes for Alfie, three years if you looked at it another way," Keane said in his ghostwritten book. "I'd waited long enough. I hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that." Under a ruling that the vicious tackle was "improperly motivated," in October 2002 Keane was banned for a further five games and fined a record 150,000 pounds (then $234,000).TODD BERTUZZIMarch 2 Kendall Lamm Jersey , 2004: Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi sucker-punched the Colorado Avalanche’s Steve Moore, knocking him to the ice and breaking his neck during a game.Penalty: Bertuzzi was suspended indefinitely four days after the incident, and missed 20 NHL games during his 17-month suspension, the final 13 regular-season games in the 2003-04 season and the Canucks' first-round playoff loss. He wasn’t allowed to play anywhere during the NHL lockout the following season.RON ARTESTNov. 19, 2004: Pacers-Pistons fight spilled into the stands. The most infamous brawl in NBA history started when Indiana's Ron Artest (now Metta World Peace) fouled Detroit's Ben Wallace late in the game. Wallace shoved back, other players got involved and Artest wound up lying on the scorer's table. He put on a pair of headphones at one point, while others on the court continued a battle of mostly words for over a minute. Then a fan threw a drink on Artest, prompting him and teammate Stephen Jackson to head into the stands. "Someone started trouble," Artest said years later, "but I ended it."Penalty: Nine players were suspended for 140 games. Artest got 73 games and Jackson received 30 games.ZINEDINE ZIDANEJuly 9, 2006: Zinedine Zidane, seemingly without provocation, turned toward Italy defender Marco Materazzi and gave him a head-butt to the chest.Penalty: FIFA banned Zidane for three matches but he had already retired. Zidane instead agreed to spend three days working with children as part of a FIFA humanitarian project. Zidane said he knocked Materazzi to the ground because he had insulted his sister. Materazzi later confirmed Zidane's version of events.ALBERT HAYNESWORTHOct. 1, 2006: Albert Haynesworth of the Tennessee Titans stomped on Dallas Cowboys center Andre Gurode's head, knocking off his helmet, then kicked and stomped his face. Gurode needed 30 stitches to repair the cuts left by the tackle's cleats.Penalty: Haynesworth was suspended for five games without pay.NIGEL DE JONGJuly 11, 2010: Nigel de Jong kicked Xabi Alonso in the chest in the 2010 World Cup final.Penalty: English referee Howard Webb handed out only a yellow card to De Jong.
Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray showed everyone what their new offense is supposed to look like. It just took them three quarters to get warmed up.Kingsbury Frank Ragnow Jersey White , the new head coach who thought Murray as first overall pick was the perfect quarterback to help him bring his ballyhooed system from college football to Arizona, helmed a disorganized offense for three quarters today against the Lions. But in the fourth quarter and overtime, that offense was outstanding. The final result was a 27-27 tie.The Cardinals’ first six drives of the Kingsbury/Murray era went punt, interception, punt, punt, punt, punt. For much of the game, the offense was a mess Devon Kennard Jersey White , and in the fourth quarter Detroit had a 24-6 lead and appeared to be in total control. But in the fourth quarter Murray finally threw a touchdown pass, to David Johnson, and things started to get interesting. Murray made plays with both his arm and his feet, and the offense began to look the way it was envisioned when Kingsbury got the job and Murray was drafted. It helped Arizona’s cause that the Lions failed to clinch the victory because of some bonehead mistakes. First, they appeared to gain a game-clinching first down with a perfectly executed pass after the Cardinals were out of timeouts — only to have it waved off because offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell had inexplicably called timeout just before the snap. Then, after the timeout, Stafford threw an incomplete pass to stop the clock. On the next play, the Lions punted, and their punt was blocked. That set Murray up with the ball and the chance to be a hero Womens Theo Riddick Jersey , down 24-16 at the two-minute warning. Murray marched the Cardinals’ offense down the field and hit Larry Fitzgerald for a touchdown, then hit a two-point conversion pass, to make it 24-24. In the fourth quarter, Murray was 15-for-19 for 154 yards, with two touchdowns. In overtime, Murray kept it going, driving the Cardinals deep into Lions territory and eventually settling for a field goal and a 27-24 lead. The Lions responded with a drive of their own, ending with a Matt Prater field goal that tied the game 27-27. That was the final, in the weirdest game of Week One. New players means new potential which leads to endless possibilities. The Detroit Lions have certainly given their fanbase hope in 2019. They’ve gone out and been extremely aggressive in free agency, nabbing some of the top talent available in this year’s class. Not only have they added some talented players, but many of them are entering what should be the prime of their careers. But we all know the real story behind free agency. It’s typically full of contracts that will never see the final years and players that could very well be playing elsewhere next season. There are plenty of success stories that come out of free agency, but there’s a boatload of overspending and overhyping. Maybe the Lions hit on literally every one of their signings, but there’s a pretty good chance Detroit made at least one error in judgement. So today’s Question of the Day is:Which Detroit Lions free agency signing are you most worried about? My answer: I’m certainly least enthusiastic about the Danny Amendola signing, but with a one-year, $3.75 million contract on the line, the risk isn’t all that high. That being said, I’m a little bit worried about the Justin Coleman addition. Coleman has played extremely well with the Seahawks Danny Amendola Jersey , and by all accounts he should be a success story in the nickel for the Lions. But as a player that came out of nowhere and only has a couple years of success, there’s certainly a pretty big risk in handing him a hefty contract. And a hefty contract it certainly is. Not only is Coleman the highest paid nickel corner in the NFL by average per year, but his cap is set to be the seventh-highest on the roster by next year ($9.03 million), and it only gets higher from there. With cap hits over $11 million in both 2021 and 2022, the Lions are really banking on Coleman not only being an immediate impact, but maintaining that level of play for at least the next three seasons. Detroit can’t even think about cutting Coleman until 2022, unless they plan on incurring at least $6 million in dead cap, and given the way they’ve been backloading contracts, that doesn’t seem like a great idea.Overall Christian Jones Jersey White , I love Coleman as a player, and I think he fits a huge need for Detroit. But given the contract and Coleman’s relative youth, it certainly is the most risky move the Lions have made thus far.Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage
CINCINNATI (AP)John Ross got up to top speed Trayveon Williams Jersey Womens , ran past a defender and caught Andy Dalton’s long pass in stride, drawing an ovation from the approximately 950 fans watching the first practice of Bengals camp.A day later, he made another impressive catch on a deep throw and heard more applause.Fans haven’t seen any of this since the Bengals made him their first overall pick last year. The speedy receiver from Washington expected to show his big-play ability during his first season in Cincinnati. Instead, he missed most of camp while recovering from shoulder surgery and wound up playing in only three games. He didn’t catch a pass and fumbled on a reverse – the only time he got the ball – before another shoulder injury ended his season. As debuts go, it was about as bad as it gets. He was playing catch-up from the start because of his injury, and every mistake got magnified.”It was everything,” Ross said. ”When one thing went wrong, six things went wrong. Not to make excuses, but it was so much more than me making one mistake on the field. I think it kind of beat me up mentally and took me away from my game.”The Bengals are trying to dig out of one of the worst seasons offensively in franchise history. They finished last in the league in yards in 2017, a franchise first. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor was given wide latitude to overhaul the playbook. The offensive line has been revamped. Coach Marvin Lewis has said repeatedly that the offense needs to have more big plays this season, the kind they thought Ross would provide when they took him with the ninth overall pick in the draft.Ross ran a record time of 4.22 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, and the Bengals envisioned him providing another deep threat to A.J. Green. Instead, Ross barely got on the field. He’s been healthy and making a good impression.”I’ve kind of showed that I can relax and play the game I’m used to playing,” Ross said. ”Mentally Trayveon Williams Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , that was the toughest challenge for me last year. Being hurt kind of messed with me throughout the whole year. When you’re beat mentally, I don’t think you can really be yourself.”Ross was still recovering from shoulder surgery when camp opened in 2017 and wasn’t cleared to practice at the outset. He wound up playing in only two preseason games and making one catch for 6 yards, his total contribution to the passing game last year. He’s already way ahead of last year.”John Ross has done things this offseason we saw at the University of Washington,” said Duke Tobin, director of player personnel. ”We’re looking for him to take the next step.”EIFERT BACK: Tight end Tyler Eifert was cleared to practice on Monday after working out on a side field the first four days of camp. Eifert was limited to two games last season before more back problems required another surgical procedure. He signed a one-year contract loaded with incentives.Eifert mostly worked out with the backups on Monday. He made a couple of diving plays late in practice, drawing applause from fans.”I could understand how it would be frustrating as fans, hearing, `Oh, he’s on (injury) list again or whatever,”’ Eifert said. ”But trust me, it’s 100 times more frustrating for me because all I want to do is be out there, and I’m doing literally everything I can, spending all my time trying to get back out there and stay out there with the guys.”H-back Ryan Hewitt also was cleared to join practice, leaving only linebacker Vontaze Burfict yet to get approval to practice. Burfict is suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancers.— Andy Dalton had a career day. The defense played far better than at any time last season. An opener that could have turned ugly became a point of optimism. The Bengals couldn't pull off the upset in Seattle Trayveon Williams Jersey 2019 , but the way they played suggested that this could be a much different team under first-year coach Zac Taylor.A 21-20 loss to the Seahawks left Cincinnati disappointed but not discouraged. In fact, the Bengals came away feeling pretty good, all things considered."The first full game as a team, really, with these systems in place, these players in the building — there's some unknowns that come with that," Taylor said Monday. "We expected to win that game and feel we should have won that game, but I think our guys now know we're as good as we think we can be."We can't make the same mistakes we just did, but we're a football team that's poised to do some really good things if we continue to make the improvements we need to make."WHAT'S WORKINGOne of the biggest questions in Seattle was how Dalton would look his first time running Taylor's full offense. The Bengals threw a lot of screen passes to negate the Seahawks' pass rush, and Dalton took advantage of a defense that sometimes conceded short throws — a "rope-a-dope" approach, as Seahawks coach Pete Carroll put it.Dalton had a career-high 35 completions in 51 attempts, three shy of his career high. He finished with a career-best 418 yards with two touchdowns , no interceptions and five sacks. He also fumbled twice. In his first time in the new offense, Dalton was a very good fit."We were encouraged by everything we did Trayveon Williams Jersey Mens ," Dalton said .WHAT NEEDS HELPThe run game. Cincinnati was able to throw for so many yards in part because Seattle stacked the line of scrimmage to stop Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard, and it worked. They combined for only 13 carries and 31 yards. Mixon left with a sprained ankle. It's unclear whether he'll be available next Sunday against San Francisco.STOCK UPSam Hubbard had a career-high 10 tackles and two sacks , matching his career high. The second-year end anchored a line that limited Seattle to 233 yards and 72 yards rushing. The Seahawks managed only 12 first downs and had the ball for 11 minutes less than the Bengals. It all started with the line."Those guys really gave us a great chance to make plays on the back end," cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick said. "If they keep that up, there's going to be a lot of chances for turnovers."STOCK DOWNRandy Bullock made a pair of field goals, but was wide left on a 45-yard attempt in the third quarter that could have made it 20-14. It was one of several missed opportunities that could have swung the game. Dalton fumbled on Cincinnati's opening possession of the second half, the wet ball slipping out of his hand as he got ready to throw a screen pass on a play from the Seattle 12-yard line. Those two missed chances prevented Cincinnati from taking control.INJUREDMixon got his left ankle twisted on a run early in the third quarter and didn't return. Taylor said Monday that the injury is only a sprain and Mixon is day to day, which was encouraging news. Mixon led the AFC in rushing last season with 1,168 yards.KEY NUMBERThe Bengals averaged 50,753 fans for their home games last season, the second-lowest mark in the NFL. It'll be interesting to see whether the solid overall showing in Seattle helps sell more tickets for their home opener Sunday against the 49ers.NEXT STEPSWin a game. The Bengals had several chances to pull off the big upset on the road, but missed their chances to take control in the second half and let it slip away.
I don’t care if you inhale or not Dan Marino Jersey , but smoke is permeating in the room. Ricky might be around." for SiriusXMThe best smokescreens have natural momentum, or a kernel of truth to them. The following video is part of the very DNA why the “Kyler Murray to the Arizona Cardinals at #1” rationale has built steam.Without a guarantee he’d be on an NFL team’s radar a couple months from then, Kliff Kingsbury mentions that he would take Kyler Murray with the 1st overall pick seemingly unsolicited. Now, he’s the head coach of the team picking number 1 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. No brainer, right?Hardly. The last time an NFL team drafted a QB in consecutive 1st rounds was 1982-1983, when the Baltimore Colts drafted John Elway in 1983 after drafting Art Schlicter in 1982 — and it’s only happened four times in NFL history.Despite a head coach and front office’s ephemeral time spent in an organization, teams still haven’t invested in a QB two years in a row in the 1st round in 36 years. Ironically enough, the Arizona Cardinals have had the same general manager Bob Griese Jersey , Steve Keim, since 2013. If this were a complete sweep, that would ripen the conditions for a team to invest in 1st round QB’s two years in a row. Could you imagine the interview Kliff Kingsbury must have had to come in, with zero NFL experience, and convince a decision maker in the front office who’s been there since 2013 to basically admit complete failure on a QB the team just spent a top-10 pick on? Unless former head coach Steve Wilks, a defensive-minded rookie HC, pounded the table for Josh Rosen and GM Keim got overruled, I don’t see a scenario where Rosen’s selection doesn’t significantly point to Keim’s decision making. And what Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey , exactly, would Kingsbury’s expertise have been in working with someone like Kyler Murray anyway? To me, it’s a matter of economics. You spend #10 (1,300 points on the Jimmy Johnson “Draft Value Chart”) on a QB in year X. The following year, you spend #1 (3,000 points on the JJDVC) on a QB. You’re now completely dependent on the fact that multiple teams vie for the services of someone you’re willing to move on from in one year. If there’s only one interested party, they can lowball the offer, essentially calling the bluff that you’d keep both QB’s. Luckily for the Cardinals Kenny Stills Jersey , the NFL is QB-starved, like Walking Dead for delicious brains starved. They’d have suitors. Now, though, you’re dependent on the desperation of the teams involved — and — that those teams don’t work together to bring the cost down, knowing you can’t play both QB’s. You’ve spent 4,300 points on a position where only one player can start, and if you don’t receive at least the #10 pick or higher, you’ve set up a situation that leans toward a failure on return. That’s bad business Reshad Jones Jersey , and that’s what the NFL is, a business. Not to mention, Kyler Murray isn’t the second coming of John Elway or Andrew Luck or (insert your prototype college QB coming into the NFL Draft here). Does Kyler Murray have a high ceiling? Absolutely. But you don’t make this move unless you think he’s going to be one of the best ever.Kyler Murray to Arizona is a smokescreen. I’d love to have a discussion if you feel Arizona drafting Murray at #1 is legitimate. Let’s tango down in the Comments Section, I’ll do my best to not get you pregnant! The deal keeps Tunsil from entering free agency after this season, and will pay him around $10 million for the 2020 season. The deal is guaranteed against injury Michael Deiter Miami Dolphins Jerseys , and Miami could rescind the option before the start of the 2020 league year next March without sustaining any dead money. That would allow Tunsil to become a free agent.Miami recently re-signed wide receiver DeVante Parker after exercising his fifth-year option last year, which would have made this season his last on his rookie contract. The Dolphins could look to do something similar this year with a player they see as a Pro Bowl talent at a critical position, signing Tunsil to a contract extension prior to starting the 2020 season.Under NFL rules, each rookie is signed to a four-year contract after being selected in the NFL Draft. First-round selections have a fifth-year team-option clause in their contract, but that option has to be exercised in the spring before their fourth year.
Expectations are a hell of a thing.Year 2 of the Sean McVay era. Adding Pro Bowl talent to both sides of the ball. Starting the season 8-0 and bouncing back from a single loss to improve to 11-1. The game of the year against the Kansas City Chiefs that could get some kind of ESPN’s 30 for 30 treatment. The Los Angeles Rams went into their Week 12 bye as the predestined Super Bowl champions after an offseason of astronomical expectations.*cue the whistling of a bomb dropping to Earth*The Rams sleep-walked their way to a win against a punchless Detroit Lions team. The Rams managed 30 points in that contest David Edwards Jersey nfl draft , but 17 were scored off drives starting in Lions territory probably because the new stationary kickoff rules have inadvertently torpedoed onside kick attempts. Thanks, hands team. But if that game was a head-scratcher, I can’t imagine what’s left of your scalp after these last two games. The Rams, the predetermined Super Bowl winners with their high-octane offense, charismatic head coach Custom David Edwards Jersey , and a surging defensive unit led by a tackle that was endangering Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record, wet the bed on a national stage. The Rams were averaging 34 points a game when they went to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears...and scored six points. Next up, the Philadelphia Eagles who are likely not making the playoffs. Their starting running back tore his ACL. Their starting quarterback broke his back. And their secondary is so beat up that I could show up to their practice and they’d hand me a jersey number in the 20’s and tell me I’m their new nickel corner. And despite all of that, America was treated to a second consecutive showing of the predetermined Super Bowl champs laying an egg. The Rams did manage to make it close towards the end, benefiting from soft coverage from a naturally soft secondary. But I’m personally a lot more alarmed by the 17-point hole they dug vs. encouraged by their ability to almost crawl back from it.Even when it was tied at 13 at halftime Discount David Edwards Jersey , it felt like the Rams were lucky it was that close. But these are the Rams. They’re supposed to win it all this year. And they’re one of the best teams in the league at halftime adjustments. Up until this game, the Rams had led the league in 3rd quarter scoring offense. They were outscored by the Eagles, 17-0. For those keeping score at home, the Rams have managed three points in 3rd quarters since their bye. Atotal of three points. Like, they kicked a field goal against the Lions and have been shut out of the last two...Now come the narratives. And as someone who was at the game who had to deal with inebriated Eagles fans flapping their arms and celebrating a minor victory in a lost season Austin Blythe Jersey , I can’t help but buy in to them.Is QB Jared Goff a liability? Since their bye, he has one touchdown pass and seven interceptions. That’s one more interception than what he had in the eleven games before their bye. Is the book out on DL Aaron Donald? Zero sacks the last two games after 6.5 the previous three. And what about the special teams? Another fake punt that didn’t work and a back-breaking fumble by JoJo Natson Jr. that essentially cost the Rams a minute and a half of clock when there was only three minutes left. The sports news cycle the day after an embarrassing prime time loss is always a tough one. The talking heads are always ready to bury a team with high expectations. The Rams are 11-3 and I believe, despite what I’ve said up to this, that they have as good a shot as any other team to win the Super Bowl this year. This isn’t the same kind of frustration I’ve felt during the Jeff Fisher, Steve Spagnuolo Kurt Warner Jersey , Jim Haslett or Scott Linehan eras. This isn’t the hopeless feeling of rooting for a team destined to finish 4-12.This is the fear of watching what is probably the most talented roster in the NFL get dropped in the divisional round. Swept away and forgotten by everyone but us Rams fans. And all we’d be left with is a series of “what-ifs.” After an incredibly rocky draft season and start to his NFL career, things could potentially be turning around for edge rusher Jachai Polite, the former Florida Gator and New York Jet. Polite has signed with the Los Angeles Rams to their practice squad:Polite was once talked about as a potential top-10 pick, though his status took an incredibly deep plummet as his NFL Scouting Combine interviews were reportedly awful, he claimed all teams only showed and harped on negatives outside of the Rams and claimed that was his best/favorite meeting http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-marshall-faulk-jersey , and then he bombed the athletic testing. Yet still, Polite was drafted in the third-round, speaking to just how talented he was at Florida and how much more there is to his game. Polite also visited the Rams pre-draft.Polite takes over the practice squad spot vacated by linebacker Dakota Allen who was signed by the Oakland Raiders the other day. Polite now has a chance to develop on the practice squad, with the potential to make the roster down the line.
KANSAS CITY Tony Gonzalez Jersey , Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t draft Patrick Mahomes merely to make the playoffs.Matt Cassel accomplished that, and quarterbacks Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac, Trent Green and Alex Smith went one better by making it to the divisional round. Smith even won a wild-card game, the first playoff victory by the long-suffering Chiefs since Joe Montana led them to the AFC title game in the 1993 season. No, the Chiefs didn’t trade up to select Mahomes just to make the playoffs. They did it to win in the playoffs. Now, Mahomes gets his first chance when the first-year starter leads the AFC West champions against the Colts — their longtime playoff nemesis — on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.Win and the young All-Pro quarterback has the Chiefs one game away from playing in the Super Bowl, lose and Mahomes has to wait a full year to get another crack at wiping away the stink of all those playoff failures.“A playoff run in general would mean a ton to everyone in this community, including us. I know the history,” Mahomes said, “but at the same time, we are a different generation.”That may be true Derrick Thomas Jersey , but he was on the sideline last season for the latest postseason letdown.Mahomes was given his freshman season to learn the ropes under Smith, who ended a streak of eight straight playoff defeats by beating Houston in the wild-card round in January 2016. But they lost the following week at New England to end their playoff run, then lost at home to the Steelers in the divisional round in 2017 and blew a big lead against the Titans in the wild-card round a year ago.Three defeats after that rarest of playoff wins. The sting has been even more brutal at home, where the Colts have won just as many playoff games as the Chiefs (two apiece) over the years. Both of the Chiefs’ wins were in the wild-card round. They’ve never won a home playoff game in the divisional round or beyond.Yet if there’s any reason to believe that stretch of futility will end Saturday, it just may be the optimistic kid with the big arm and curly Mohawk. Bono, Grbac and the rest never put up the kind of numbers that Mahomes has this season, nor did they engender the same kind of confidence in their teams.Mahomes exudes poise. And the rest of the Chiefs can feel it.“It’s the way he plays,” Chiefs center Mitch Morse said recently. “Not only his talent, which is uncanny, but the way he prepares, the way he conducts himself in the huddle, and then the guy has got a swagger about him that’s infectious.”There is no denying this is a new experience Christian Okoye Jersey , though. Mahomes only played in one bowl game in three seasons at Texas Tech, much less an NFL playoff game with the entire football world watching.“So far I haven’t seen anything that’s too big for Pat. I’m not even worried about that,” coach Andy Reid said Monday, just before the Chiefs resumed practicing following a well-earned week off.“He’s going to get himself ready, just like he does every week, to play against a good football team,” Reid said. “But I don’t think he’s wired the other way. I’m not predicting anything, I’m just telling you, matter of fact, how he’s wired, how he goes about his business.”That doesn’t mean Reid hasn’t pulled him aside for a few extra chats.“Everything is a little faster in the playoffs. That’s how things go,” Reid said. “At the same time Marcus Allen Jersey , he has to be himself and continue to lead and play like he has been doing. I don’t think he will have a problem with that. I think he understands that. He is wired the right way to handle all of it.”Mahomes said he’s chatted with Smith about his postseason experience, and he’s soaked up what he can from the veterans in his locker room. Defensive back Ron Parker, linebacker Justin Houston and fullback Anthony Sherman are among those who have been part of several postseason letdowns. As they take the field with Mahomes on Saturday, they have a chance to scribble over that history.“I mean, we are definitely ready. We know what it’s going to take,” Mahomes said. “It’s going to take a full effort from everyone, every single day, to the game and hopefully on. We know that you have to capitalize on every single play. You can’t let one play get you down for the next. The next play is the most important play. We are excited we get the chance to do that.” Since Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sustained a dislocated kneecap during the team’s 30-6 victory over the Denver Broncos on Thursday night — which will keep the league’s reigning MVP off the field for at last two weeks, and perhaps as many as five — perceptions about the Chiefs in 2019 have changed dramatically.Among Chiefs fans, confidence in the team had already taken a severe hit after consecutive home losses to the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. After being as high as 98% during Week 2 and Week 3, SBNation’s weekly FanPulse survey showed fan confidence in the team had dropped to 37% before Thursday night’s game. But with a significant injury to the player who is clearly the face of the franchise, national perceptions about the Chiefs have also changed — as indicated by a tweet from friend-of-the-site Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest on Sunday night. Here’s the usual reminder about betting odds: they don’t tell you which team is most likely to win a game Larry Johnson Jersey , but rather which team the betting public thinks is more likely to win the game. The whole purpose of betting odds is to get the same amount of money bet on both teams; when that occurs, the house is guaranteed to make a profit. So expert bookmakers set the initial line to attract more money to be bet for the team less likely to win. Then, as bets are placed, the betting line moves one way or another — eventually reaching a point of equilibrium that represents the betting public’s opinion about the game.As Derrick noted, Mahomes’ injury caused one bookmaker to install the Green Bay Packers as initial three-point favorites in their road game against the Chiefs in this week’s edition ofSunday Night Football, saying that if Mahomes were under center, the Chiefs would have been favored by five. That’s consistent with the way other oddsmakers see the upcoming game.In an article published Friday morning, SportsLine.com writer Matt Severance said the difference between the Chiefs with Mahomes and the Chiefs without Mahomes was nine points. At the time, it was unknown whether Mahomes would return before the end of the season.Severance said that if he didn’t, it would be bad news for the team’s prospects. But is that an accurate representation of Mahomes’ effect on the team? This season, the stats geeks at FiveThirtyEight.com made an experimental change to their Elo model of rating NFL teams, which calculates the probabilities each team will win every game in the NFL season. The change made this season is meant to account for the quality of the starting quarterback for each team.Unsurprisingly Joe Montana Jersey , Mahomes has the highest added value of any quarterback in the league; his backup Matt Moore has a value pretty close to average. When accounting for Moore starting on Sunday night against the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers, the Elo model pretty much agrees with the bookmakers, saying Green Bay should be a 5.5 point favorite — compared to the Chiefs being favored by 2.5 under the traditional Elo model. In fact, the quarterback-adjusted model predicts the Chiefs would be 3-point underdogs against the Minnesota Vikings the following week and 1.5-point ‘dogs against the Tennessee Titans in Week 10.The Chiefs, however, would be favored by six points against the Los Angeles Chargers in Mexico City.Based on the fact that difference in point spreads between the quarterback-adjusted and traditional Elo models steadily narrows to less than half a point by the time the Chargers game arrives in Week 11, it appears the FiveThirtyEight calculations are based on the expectation that Mahomes will return sometime before then.Still, it confirms what we already know: Patrick Mahomes’ presence on the field is a significant part of the Chiefs offense. While losses in these next three games are far from foregone conclusions, Chiefs victories will likely require above-expectation performances not only from Matt Moore, but from the Chiefs defense, too.
The Patriots must have at least some interest in South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel Kevin Faulk Jerseys Stitched , they brought him in for a pre-draft visit.Perhaps he mistook their interest with familiarity.Via Peter King in NBC’s , Samuel posted a video on social media of him talking to Patriots coach Bill Belichick.鈥淗ey Billy, I鈥檒l see you in a month, my man,鈥?Samuel said. It’s probably harmless enough, unless Samuel ends up in New England. While the player-coach dynamic can often be far different from the gruff exterior Belichick shows to the media, we haven’t seen a player refer to Belichick that way. And maybe we won’t.Regardless, Samuel’s a solid prospect, who had 62 catches for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Gamecocks last year. First, Gordon announced that he would step away from football to focus on his mental wellbeing. Later, the league followed that announcement by suspending him. Considering Gordon’s history of struggling with addiction, his teammates voiced their concerns about him at the time; Matthew Slater’s statements best encapsulated the general feeling in the Patriots’ locker room.“First and foremost, our prayers are with Josh and our concern is with him and what he is dealing with,” the team captain said last December. “I think we have a tendency to become so infatuated with what’s going on on the football field, as players as media members, that we lose sight of what’s going on with the man sometimes. [...] The number one concern is you want to see him be fine Andre Tippett Jerseys Stitched , be okay and that’s what we’re praying for.”After the suspension kicked in, Gordon lay low and focused on getting not just his career but more importantly his life back on track. In the meantime, reports about him were scarce. Only now and then did somewhat unrelated news hint towards his progress. In March, New England placed a tender sheet on the restricted free agent to keep him from the open market. In June, he held a private workout with quarterback Tom Brady.Earlier this month, he ultimately filed for reinstatement and only two weeks later the NFL granted it: on Sunday, Gordon can officially rejoin the Patriots. This development obviously is great news for a team that lost some considerable receiving talent over the course of the offseason. However, the impact of Gordon’s reinstatement on New England’s offense pales in comparison to what it actually means for the 28-year-old himself. It is so much bigger than football, after all, considering that the league would not have allowed him back in if he had not shown sufficient promise and dedication in his fight against addiction. Yesterday’s announcement is therefore an indication that Gordon is at a point in his treatment at which he is able to be inserted into the NFL again — and all that it means when it comes to being under the league’s and the Patriots’ microscopes.“We are all rooting for Josh to succeed Youth Tedy Bruschi Jerseys , both personally and professionally. Everyone shares in that hope and will continue to support him to every extent possible,” commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement accompanying the NFL’s press release about Gordon’s reinstatement. That statement sums up the situation well, especially since it also includes the following sentence: “[A]s Josh acknowledged, ultimately his success is up to him.”Success has eluded Gordon when it comes to battling his addiction in the past, and there is no telling whether or not this time will be any different. He is working on his problems and has once again reached a promising point, however, even though the hard part continues: Gordon will need to show that he can repay the trust that has been placed in him by the NFL and the Patriots — not for their sake, of course, but for his own.
Rise for People’s Anthem of Houston Texans:Comrades! After minimal effort and aerial supremacy of glorious Texans’ offense Bradley Roby Jersey White , People’s football team of Texas has sent Falcons of Atlanta to endangered species list where they belong! In long, illustrious, and incredibly informative history of Ministry of Information, there can be no doubt that Texans offense is greatest offense in football. To that end, Texans wide receiver Will Fuller, whose braids are testament to unified strength of Texans fans and players, has been given by Houston Sportburo prestigious Order of Aerial Glory, in honor of his 217 yards and three touchdowns scored in service of Motherland.Falcons never stood chance against full-bodied and highly nutritious might of Texans defense, so much so that even Falcons’ offense, when given opportunity to try and claw back what little dignity they had, failed to do so!Let us be done with Falcons and complete sweep against Tampa Bay Buccaneers later this season (as we have not lost to single NFC South team this season)! No longer should we trouble ourselves with mangy scavengers from city that even South Carolina turned nose up at.We, football loving fans and players of Houston Texans, must now turn attention to Kansas City Chiefs. Traditional, decadent media outlets would have you believe that Chiefs, team which clearly has no understanding of how hierarchy works, are potential Super Bowl team and Texans are merely bump in road for pretenders.Nothing could be further from truth, comrades. Is another baldfaced lie which four lettered networks try to get you to swallow with zeal. You must fight this impulse always! Is nothing special about Kansas City.Is city built on derivative.Their vile chant Corey Moore Jersey White , mocking heritage of noble natives, is stolen from Florida State.City boasts of fountains but fountains were built elsewhere long before Kansas City was ill-conceived.Barbecue is derivative of lesser, non-Texan barbecue. In Kansas City, anything can be considered barbecue if you pour enough of sugar liquid on it.Literally anything—ribs, salmon, mayonnaise, drywall, dust from Chiefs’ last Lombardi Trophy...all are “delicacies” of Midwestern hamlet.Even team itself is just poorly designed copy of Texans. They have attempted to copy secret of Texans’ victory by poaching players deemed instrumental to success of People’s Football Team of Texas.Specifically, Chiefs “stole” Tyrann Mathieu away during single greatest offseason in history of team.According to sources within Ministry of Information, Mathieu was sought out for “his” “leadership” “quali”ties.Statement gave us all hearty chuckle at Ministry, and it should give you one as well.Calling Mathieu leader of Texans is like calling Ryan Mallett insomniac or Brock Osweiler Houston Texan; these things simply aren’t reality and neither is Mathieu as leader.Truth, as always told to you by Ministry, is that Texans cast Mathieu out as nuisance whose selfishness risked overall cohesion of team.Comrade Marshal O’Brien, architect of our triumph, felt was in best interest of team to exile him from loving heart of Mother Houston. What is truly stunning is arrogance surrounding Chiefs, fed no doubt by fatuous oafs that strive daily to diminish greatness of glorious Houston Texans (may they win 10,000 Super Bowls).Start with their offensive line.Coaches for Chiefs have decided to withhold linemen Eric Fisher and Andrew Wylie from game on Sunday Womens Greg Mancz Jersey , because, according to Chiefs head coach and potential aquatic mammal Andy Reid, “We won’t need them.”What bucket-obsessed quarterback fails to recognize is dominant and malevolent strength of Texans’ defensive line.Onslaught of J.J. Watt, D.J. Reader, and Whitney Mercilus will be more than Chiefs can hope to handle.Even with addition of fossilized Raider Stefen Wisniewski cannot hope to save precious quarterback Patrick Mahomes.Speaking of Mahomes, would appear he claimed to be injured while playing against Colts on Sunday night game.Ministry of Information, from whom all facts are thoroughly verified for ripeness, has learned that so-called injury of Mahomes is attempt at chicanery.Precious ankle is perfectly healthy.Mahomes claims ankle is injured because deep down he knows how underwhelming his abilities truly are.Dupposed “injury” is poorly-conceived feint intended to make whatever performance he achieves on Sunday appear impressive compared to Hero of Texans Offense Deshaun Watson. In heart of hearts, which Ministry is all too familiar with, Mahomes is pathologically jealous of Deshaun Watson and wishes he could be as talented as Texans’ quarterback. If not so pathetic, would be tragic. After all, what has Mahomes accomplished that Watson has not?Watson is champion. Mahomes has never achieved that.Only thing Mahomes could possibly have over Watson is appearance in sad State Farm commercial, derivative of original gag featuring Aaron Rodgers. Is also outrage of images of valiant Texans offensive line being pasted onto garbage cans at Chiefs’ training facility.Unbridled arrogance of this team knows no bounds! They think of us as little more than wretched refuse! This slight should infuriate every man, woman, and duck who consider themselves loyal to one true team, our beloved Texans!Football-loving fans and players of Houston Texans should never think that Chiefs are beyond our ability, as these are mere lies. After all Jose Altuve Jersey , this is team that lost in convincing fashion to Colts on Sunday night.Colts, as we know, are team that has decided, for reasons all their own, to play entire season without actual quarterback. Can you imagine how humiliating it must be to lose to team that only featured 10 players on offense and STILL couldn’t beat like drum? This, comrades, is why we shall march into Kansas City, bypass wretched barbecue and fountains (and roads, which we guess they are proud of or something...Ministry neither knows nor cares about this) and demolish enemies of Texans and revolutionary football principles!GLORY TO MOTHER HOUSTON!GLORY TO PEOPLE’S FOOTBALL TEAM OF TEXAS!TO VICTORY WE RIGHTLY DESERVE, WE MARCH ON!!! The Indianapolis Colts kept insisting Jacoby Brissett could win games with his arm.On Sunday, he showed everyone else what the team knew all along. With Indy's suddenly strong running game essentially grounded, Brissett shouldered the burden by throwing for 326 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead the Colts past Houston 30-23 to retake the AFC South lead."It just says he's legit, he's the man," coach Frank Reich. "We believed that from Day One and we've never wavered in our conviction or our faith in Jacoby. But he knows he's still got to prove it. He's still got to make plays to win this game and he did that today."Brissett was masterful with the exception of a dropped snap the Texans (4-3) recovered at the Colts 4.He finished 26 of 39 with six of the incompletions being throwaways. He had a career best passing total, a career best passer rating (126.7), endured only one sack and had the perfect counterpunch each time Houston fought its way back into contention. The Colts (4-2) have now won two straight overall and three straight in the series."It just makes us more balanced and I think that's what we proved today — that we can throw the ball," Brissett said. "It was just a great day for us as a whole."And it only added to the Texans' misery. They were held to field goals on three red-zone trips in the first half Ryan Griffin Jersey , had to contend with a rare "in the grasp" call that took one touchdown off the board, an overturned replay review that put another one on the board for Indy and a plethora of penalties that Brissett used to his advantage."I'm not going to answer any officiating questions," Texans coach Bill O'Brien said twice after Houston was called for 10 penalties. Then there was the fourth quarter.Houston (4-3) started it by failing to convert a second fourth-and-1 attempt, and Deshaun Watson threw an interception on the Texans next series before Darius Leonard sealed the win by picking off a tipped ball with 26 seconds left.Watson was 23 of 34 with 308 yards, one touchdown and was sacked three times as the Texans tried to play catch-up.Brissett started the opening flurry with an 11-yard TD pass to Zach Pascal . He rebounded from the fumbled snap by connecting with T.Y. Hilton on a nifty 2-yard TD pass to make it 14-6 late in the second quarter. After the Texans made it 14-9, Brissett opened the second half with a 4-yard scoring pass to Eric Ebron, who was originally ruled out of bounds at the end line. But the replay showed he got both feet down to give Indy a 21-9 lead.Houston cut the deficit to 21-16 on Keke Coutee's 4-yard scoring run, but Brissett — with the help of three Houston penalties — answered with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Pascal.Watson made it 28-23 with a 4-yard TD pass to DeAndre Hopkins, but the Texans couldn't get any closer."He (Brissett) is a very productive player, a very smart player," O'Brien said. "He makes good decisions, just a good player."STAT SHEETTexans: Hopkins had nine catches for 106 yards. Kenny Stills had four catches for 105 yards. ... Carlos Hyde rushed 12 times for 35 yards. ... WR Will Fuller left during Houston's first series with a hamstring injury and did not return.Colts: DT Carl Davis did not return after injuring his hamstring in the second half.THE BASEBALL WORLDLess than 24 hours after the Houston Astros won the American League title, Texans players were showing their support.Three-time defensive player of the year J.J. Watt arrived wearing a Jose Altuve shirt and on the field a handful of players continued their traditional pregame ritual of playing baseball with the end zone pylon."They have a chance at a championship and a chance to do something special," defensive lineman D.J. Reader said. "It's exciting. I'm excited for those guys."UP NEXTTexans: Return home next Sunday to host Oakland on the final leg of the Raiders extended road trip.Colts: Will host Denver next Sunday.
ORCHARD PARK Quandre Diggs Jersey , N.Y. (AP) — Bills safety Micah Hyde can’t forget the one and only time he picked off Detroit’s Matthew Stafford. It happened in the final minutes of Hyde’s final regular-season game with the Packers, when he intercepted Stafford’s attempt to Golden Tate at the goal line and helped seal Green Bay’s NFC North-clinching 31-24 victory on Jan. 1, 2017.“All our DBs were hurt. I had an ankle (injury), I had a shoulder, but I was still in the game and our final corner got hurt, so I had to play corner” Hyde recalled. “We were 4-6 so we had to win out to get into the playoffs. It was a huge play in a huge game.”Hyde’s next meeting against Stafford will carry far less significance.Detroit (5-9) is all but mathematically eliminated from contention, and travels to face the Bills (4-9) on Sunday in a matchup of non-conference teams in the midst of closing out what amount to transition seasons. What’s not changed is Hyde’s view of Stafford, in which he dismisses the quarterback’s fading production and Detroit’s dwindling number of proven receiving threats with Tate traded to Philadelphia, Marvin Jones Jr. on injured reserve , and Calvin Johnson three years into retirement.“Gunslinger Theo Riddick Jersey , man,” Hyde said.“Just because he doesn’t have that feel for his receivers like he usually had in the past with Tate and Johnson and those type of guys, it’s been difficult,” he added. “But that’s not going to stop him from slinging the rock.”Stafford is still averaging 36 attempts and completing more than 66 percent of them, and yet his yardage has dropped. With 3,187 yards passing, he’s in jeopardy of finishing under 4,000 for the first time in eight years. The dip is a reflection of the changes at receiver, and the Lions placing more emphasis on a running game with the addition of rookie running back Kerryon Johnson. In his third season as offensive coordinator, Jim Bob Cooter has had to adapt to the changing roster. That was evident in a 17-3 win at Arizona last weekend Tavon Wilson Jersey , when Stafford finished with 101 yards passing, the second fewest in a career start, and the Lions’ defense contributed with a touchdown on Darius Slay’s 67-yard interception return.“We’d love to move the ball every drive and score points, but we’re going to find a way to win that game,” Cooter said. “If it’s pretty, if it’s ugly, we’ll take the win.”ALLEN ON THE RUNBills rookie quarterback Josh Allen has 335 yards rushing in his past three games, and taken over the team lead with 490 yards — 11 more than running back LeSean McCoy — and five touchdowns.“There’s God-given talent that he has, and he’ll give defenses fits at times,” offensive coordinator Brian Daboll said. “Does that mean we want to have him lead the team in rushing? I would say no. So we’ve got to do a good job in our running game.”SLOW STARTERSThe Bills have been outscored by a combined 168-32 in the first half of their nine losses. That includes squandering a 17-13 lead in a 27-23 loss to the Jets last weekend — the first time Buffalo’s blown a four-point or better halftime lead since a 28-25 loss at Miami on Oct. 23 Matt Prater Jersey , 2016.COACHING CONNECTIONDaboll and Lions first-year coach Matt Patricia spent time together on Bill Belichick’s staff in New England. Their history goes back further in playing against each other at the Division III college level in New York.Daboll was the receivers coach in New England and played a role in hiring Patricia, who was an assistant at Syracuse.Patricia submitted his application on bright orange paper, representing Syracuse’s color.“I totally did that on purpose. I knew it was going to be a little bit different,” Patricia said. “We laugh about it all the time.”TIGHTENING UPThe Lions’ defense is beginning to find its identity under Patricia. Even before smothering a woeful Arizona team, the Lions held the powerful Rams under control until the fourth quarter. The 30-16 loss to Los Angeles was the only time in the past five games that an opponent has rushed for over 61 yards against Detroit. The acquisition of defensive tackle Damon Harrison seems to have paid dividends.LITTLE HISTORYThis marks just the teams’ 11th meeting, and first since Buffalo’s 17-14 win at Detroit on Oct. 5, 2014.The Bills have just two players left — defensive tackle Kyle Williams and defensive end Jerry Hughes — who were on the team then. It was also Buffalo’s final game before the NFL officially approved the team’s sale to Terry and Kim Pegula from the estate of Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson, who was from Detroit. The Lions have 10 players left from 2014. In Matt Patricia’s first year as head coach, Quandre Diggs’ versatility has translated to elevated play at safety."In this edition of our 2018 roster review, we take a look at Quandre Diggs and how his 2018 performance projects to the future. Quandre DiggsOutlook before 2018:Quandre Diggs entered 2018 looking for his first whole season playing safety. After injuries decimated the Lions’ safety rotation in the 2017 campaign Sam Martin Jersey , Diggs was forced to switch over from nickel corner to strong safety and he flourished in the limited role. There was concern Diggs would experience a sophomore slump at the position, especially while learning a new scheme, but apparently Diggs didn’t get the memo. Actual role in 2018:2018 Stats: 16 games, 78 tackles (64 solo), three interceptions, eight passes defended. PFF Grade: 72.7 (#30 among safeties)Diggs thrived in his new role, and Patricia’s creativity with safety use made the most of Diggs’ skillset. We saw Diggs stuff the box, cover deep, and take on men both smaller and bigger than him without hesitation. Most entertaining of all, we got another season’s worth of tape on Diggs thumping receivers and running backs who dared to venture into his domain. It should also be noted that thanks to Diggs Calvin Johnson Jersey , the Lions’ first and last defensive possessions of the season ended in interceptions. Outlook for 2019: Contract Status: Under ContractIt’s clear that Diggs and the Lions are in a mutually beneficial relationship. Matt Patricia and Paul Pasqualoni have taken full advantage of Diggs’ abilities to put him in a position to succeed, and the Lions are getting their money’s worth after signing Diggs to a three year, $20.4 million extension in September. The man provides the Lions with a literal bang for their buck. With a year of the new scheme under his belt, look for Diggs to see continued success heading into the 2019 season.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Sam Hubbard had missed on his attempt to get Ryan Tannehill.Next thing he knew, the ball was flying right toward him and there was nobody between him and the end zone. The rookie had an improbably easy time completing Cincinnati’s big comeback.Michael Johnson returned an interception for the tying score, and Hubbard went 19 yards with a fumble for the clinching touchdown Sunday, rallying the Bengals from a 17-point deficit to a 27-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Not even those involved could explain it.“I really don’t know what happened,” Hubbard said. “I just saw the ball and it stuck. Thank God I was able to hold onto it and waddle into the end zone.”With Joe Mixon back from knee surgery and the defense making more game-turning plays in the fourth quarter, Cincinnati (4-1) extended its best start since its 2015 playoff season. This one came a week after A.J. Green caught a winning touchdown pass in Atlanta with 7 seconds left.“These NFL games are crazy, man,” Green said. “It’s an up-and-down roller coaster ride. You ride it and hope you come out on top.”The Dolphins (3-2) had plenty of blame to go around for their meltdown, helping the Bengals score those 27 consecutive points with a variety of mistakes — the biggest ones by their quarterback.Andy Dalton threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Mixon to start the comeback, completing a drive that was extended by T.J. McDonald’s personal foul on a third-down incompletion. Mixon returned after missing two games following knee surgery and ran for 93 yards in addition to catching three passes. From there, the Dolphins fell apart.“When I got the touchdown, the momentum shifted,” Mixon said. “After that Josh Malone Jersey , you started seeing sack after sack, pick after pick, touchdown after touchdown. It was crazy, man.”The Bengals’ young defense sealed wins over Indianapolis and Baltimore with late turnovers. Two freaky bounces changed this one in the fourth quarter.Under pressure, Tannehill decided to throw the ball at the feet of tight end Durham Smythe rather than take a sack. Tannehill was hit as he released the ball, which caromed off Smythe’s helmet and went directly to Johnson, who ran 22 yards untouched for the tying score .After Randy Bullock’s 20-yard field goal gave the Bengals their first lead at 20-17, Tannehill was hit again by Carlos Dunlap and the ball flew to Hubbard, who ran untouched 19 yards to the end zone with 2:37 left to clinch it.“I didn’t know what happened,” said Tannehill, who was 20 of 35 for 185 yards with three turnovers. “I heard the crowd cheer and everyone run away from me, so I knew something bad happened.”The Dolphins started the season 3-0, but have gotten flattened by New England and shocked by the Bengals in the past two weeks.Miami made the big plays early Alex Erickson Jersey , but couldn’t close it out with a 17-0 lead. Kiko Alonso picked off Dalton’s tipped pass near the end zone to stop Cincinnati’s opening drive, Vincent Taylor blocked a Bengals field goal attempt, and Jakeem Grant returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown with 23 seconds left in the first half.Tannehill put together a 95-yard drive for the other touchdown, culminating with his 22-yard pass to running back Kenyan Drake. Tannehill was 20 of 35 for 185 yards.AT THE TOPGreen had six catches for 112 yards, moving ahead of Chad Johnson for the club record with his 32nd career 100-yard game.LONG TIMEThe Bengals hadn’t been shut out in an opening half and rallied to win since 2004, when they trailed Miami 3-0 at halftime and pulled it out 16-13. It was only the fourth time in franchise history that they scored 24 points in the fourth quarter and won — they also did it in 1972, 1978 and 2004.HISTORIC RETURNGrant’s 70-yard punt return made him the first Dolphin to score on a reception, a kickoff return and a punt return in the same season. He had a 102-yard kickoff return against Tennessee in the season opener. Grant joins Dante Hall (2003) as the only NFL players with a 100-yard kickoff return, a 70-yard punt return and a 50-yard TD catch in the same season. The last NFL player with a touchdown of all three varieties was the Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill in 2016.STREAK ENDSDalton’s pass for Green was tipped and intercepted by linebacker Kiko Alonso, ending the Bengals’ opening drive and their streak of scoring on their past 34 trips inside the 20-yard line. It was the longest active streak in the NFL.BURFICT BACKBengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict returned from his latest NFL suspension and had seven tackles, second on the team.INJURIESDolphins: LT Laremy Tunsil left with a concussion during the Bengals’ fourth-quarter comeback, further depleting the Dolphins’ offensive line.Bengals: LB Preston Brown walked off the field in the second quarter after getting his right ankle checked but returned.UP NEXTDolphins host the Bears next Sunday.Bengals host the Steelers next Sunday.
NEW YORK (AP) — Everyone’s still chasing the New England Patriots in the AFC East. Many of the faces change every year in Miami Miami Dolphins Jerseys Stitched , Buffalo, New York — and even in Foxborough — but Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are constants in the division. So are AFC East titles for the Patriots. They’ve won nine in a row, and 14 of the past 15. And, it certainly appears they’re an excellent bet to add to that haul this season. Not that Belichick is too comfortable with any of that.“Each year is a new year, and each year has its own challenges,” said the coach, whose 278 overall victories are third-most in NFL history. “Again, each year we all have to regain our — to the best we can — our ability to perform our jobs. That’s what I’m trying to do. I think that’s what all of the players, all of the coaches, we’re all trying to do that.”The Patriots don’t lack motivation. After all, they’re coming off a Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and had an interesting offseason. Brady sat out workouts Chandler Cox Jersey nfl draft , tight end Rob Gronkowski hinted at retirement and skipped voluntary workouts before rejoining his teammates, defensive coordinator Matt Patricia was hired as Detroit’s coach, and wide receiver Julian Edelman was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancers.Brady turned 41 on Aug. 3 and has shown no signs of slowing, although some wonder if this might be the year he finally regresses. Well, not those who are around the five-time Super Bowl champion.“He’s hands-down just remarkable, it’s amazing,” Gronkowski said. “At age 41, I mean, there’s coaches younger than us, younger than him on the roster. He looks younger than the coaches, he looks younger than everyone. The way he’s moving Super Bowl Chandler Cox Jersey , how just reliable he is at all times is just unbelievable and something to look up to.”Here are a few other things to know about the AFC East:BRADY’S BUNCH: One of the biggest questions for New England heading into the season is who’ll catch on in the passing game.Gone are Danny Amendola, Brandin Cooks, Malcolm Mitchell and Kenny Britt, Eric Decker retired just a few weeks after joining the Patriots, Jordan Matthews was released early in camp and Edelman is out the first four games.Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett and newcomer Cordarrelle Patterson figure to be the primary options among wide receivers — unless the Patriots add someone before the start of the regular season.Still, Gronkowski will once again be Brady’s main man, and rookie running back Sony Michel could see lots of passes his way once he’s healthy from a knee issue.“You’ve got to go out there and show it on the practice field,” Brady said, “so that we can all gain trust in each other.”RYAN’S HOPE: Ryan Tannehill is back under center for Miami after being sidelined since December 2016 because of two injuries to his left knee. The Dolphins are banking on him having a big-time comeback, or at least be better than Jay Cutler was last season while filling in. But Tannehill’s durability is a concern Football Chandler Cox Jersey , and if he goes down again, Brock Osweiler and David Fales are the fallback options. Some good news, though: The offensive line, anchored by veteran newcomer Josh Sitton, could be the best Tannehill has played behind. The Dolphins also added Amendola, Albert Wilson, Frank Gore and rookie Mike Gesicki at the skill positions, which should add some playmaking options — especially with DeVante Parker uncertain to be ready for the start of the season because of a broken finger.“It’s a lot of fun,” Tannehill said. “With so many playmakers, it’s just a matter of getting the ball in their hands and letting them go to work.”SLING IT AGAIN, SAMThe Jets traded up three spots to get to No. 3 in the draft Jesse Davis Jersey , hoping to get a potential franchise quarterback. After Cleveland took Baker Mayfield and the Giants went with running back Saquon Barkley, Sam Darnold fell right into New York’s lap — getting the guy it wanted all along. The 21-year-old Darnold was given every opportunity to win the starting job in a three-way competition with Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater, and the rookie did nothing but impress the coaching staff this summer. The former USC star is the future of the franchise — and that could mean right now.“He’s everything that you’re looking for in a young quarterback,” offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates said, “as far as the ability to go out there and the game is not too big for him.”WHO’S IN THE HUDDLE?The Bills traded Tyrod Taylor to Cleveland in the offseason, then traded up five spots to draft Josh Allen with the seventh pick. The strong-armed former Wyoming star is raw and remains a work in progress, displayed in a shaky start against Cincinnati in the third preseason game. Playing behind a patchwork offensive line didn’t help, but Buffalo might have to open the season with the rookie watching from the sideline.Newcomer AJ McCarron and returning backup Nathan Peterman could be the starter when the Bills — who snapped a 17-year playoff drought — open at Baltimore on Sept. 9.Whoever is under center will have LeSean McCoy in the backfield. Even at 30, he’s expected to be a workhorse. A hip/groin injury limited him in the preseason, but he’s expected to be ready for the Ravens. Also, an off-field issue regarding his ex-girlfriend being hurt in a home invasion in July Kenny Stills Jersey , hasn’t been much of a distraction.PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH: Patriots, Dolphins, Jets, Bills. The demise of the Alliance of American Football has helped the Dolphins fill out their 90-man roster. The Dolphins announced the signings of running back Kenneth Farrow, tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith, linebacker Tyrone Holmes, wide receiver Reece Horn and defensive tackle Joey Mbu. They also confirmed the previously reported signings of linebacker Jayrone Elliott and offensive lineman Michael Dunn.No NFL team has signed more former AAF players than the seven who have landed in Miami.Farrow spent time with the Chargers and Patriots before joining Elliott, Jones-Smith, Holmes and Mbu with the San Antonio Commanders. He had 106 carries for 372 yards and four touchdowns and 12 receptions for 95 yards during his time in the AAF.Holmes was a 2016 sixth-round pick of the Jaguars and appeared in 15 games for the Browns between 2016 and 2017. Mbu has seen action with the Falcons and Colts while Horn and Jones-Smith have both spent time on NFL rosters without seeing any regular season action.
Coaches rarely credit sportswriters for anything C.J. Anderson Jersey , especially not for identifying draft talent. But coach Bill Belichick said Monday that former columnist Rick Gosselin got the Patriots on the trail of Julian Edelman.Edelman was a little-known quarterback at Kent State when the Patriots selected him in the seventh round of the 2009 draft.“It’s kind of interesting,” Belichick said. “I’ve got to give Rick Gosselin credit on that one for getting us started. I talked to Rick — as you know, Rick followed the draft very closely — and at one point, he said to me, ‘A kid you might want to take a look at is this quarterback out of Kent State. I don’t think he can play quarterback [in the NFL], but I’ve heard he’s a pretty good player.’“So we kind of got going on him a little bit, and we were like, ‘OK, what would we do with Julian? Is he a receiver? Is he a punt returner? Is he a defensive back? Is he maybe a guy that just can play multiple positions in the kicking game?’ So we went out and worked him out. How many times did we work you out? Two? So we sent one coach up there. And then we were like, ‘Well all right Samson Ebukam Jersey , let’s send someone else up there, because we weren’t really sure what to do with him.“So, as it turned out, he came to the Patriots and caught passes, which he hadn’t done before, returned kicks, which he hadn’t done before, and played defense, which he hadn’t done before, in addition to covering kicks and all the other things in special teams.”Edelman worked his way up the football chain to now Super Bowl LIII MVP Cooper Kupp Jersey , and he has Gosselin to thank for getting him to New England in the first place. The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense wanted Jared Goff to throw the ball. That’s how they knew they were going to beat the Los Angeles Rams. The defense gave up the flat. The Eagles made the conscious decision that if the Rams were going to beat them, they’d have to do so with short passes and the running game. And guess what happened? In the week leading up to the game, the narrative was that Chicago gave everyone ablueprint for beating Sean McVay. The more accurate statement was the Bears (and now the Eagles) figured out how to expose Goff in a McVay offense. These defenses made Goff look like he was still a rookie in the Jeff Fisher offense. He was easily agitated despite consistently sending just four rushes. He didn’t utilize his check-downs. He made mistakes. Goff played right into the defense’s hand. First throw: 3rd and 11 This is the Rams first third-down situation on the first drive of the game. The Rams go with their bread-and-butter 11-personnel look (one running back, one tight end, three receivers). Goff has four options underneath (Gerald Everett, Bradin Cooks, Todd Gurley, Robert Woods). He has one option, Josh Reynolds, running a deep post route. Now John Johnson Jersey , look at this defense. This 4-1-6 formation was a frequent look of the Eagles defense. The Eagles sent four rushers while the rest of the defense plays deep, allowing Goff all underneath options. Yet, Goff chooses to throw to Reynolds for the big first down play. The Eagles had Cover 1 and played their free safety (Avonte Addams) playing up near the line. Addams sat in the middle of Reynolds and Everett. When Goff made the throw, Reynolds had both safeties on him by the time the ball comes near him. The Rams punted. Second throw: First and 10Again, Rams came out in 11-personnel but this time the Eagles have a base 4-3-4. The play calls for two receivers (Reynolds and Cooks) to run seam routes while two others (Gurley and Woods) run short option routes. By the time Goff sets his feet, his two deep options are facing five men in pass-coverage. Gurley and Woods are against 1-on-1 coverage near the line of scrimmage. Yet, Goff chooses Reynolds, again, who has Maddox on top of him for the latter half of the route. Goff chooses to throw a risky pass to Reynolds. Maddox, of course Jared Goff Jersey , ends up intercepting the pass. Goff had Woods for a 2-3-yard gain. If he wanted a deep route, he could have possibly squeezed in a pass to Cooks. This is how the coverage looked over Cooks and Reynolds by the time Goff began his throwing motion. But this pass didn’t even need to be thrown in the first place. At this point, the second quarter is barely three minutes in and the Rams just had a 19-yard rush from Woods. Forcing the ball was an unnecessary risk I’m sure McVay didn’t advise Goff to take. The third-year quarterback forced the throw. The Red zone With under 30 seconds left in the second quarter, the Rams got into the red zone. Goff rode a 6-completion hot streak to get there. The thought must have been to ride that momentum to the end-zone because Gurley wasn’t given the ball once for a run. The Rams came away with just a field goal after some of the most bizarre throws I’ve seen inside the red zone. These throws were blatantly unnecessary. They fail to be called “risky” because the throw is nowhere near the target, who is Reynolds on all three throws. Goff throws a deep pass that’s way overthrown and off his back foot. Woods, who is on a slant route, is wide open. If Goff chose the underneath route, it would have put the Rams close to the first-down. Everybody is sent towards the end-zone. Woods, again, is the best option. He puts a swim move over the defender to get open for tight window David Edwards Los Angeles Rams Jerseys , but Goff chooses the deep throw and ends up overthrowing Reynolds. Goff has no options here. Everyone is sent and the Eagles defense blankets the end-zone. Nowhere to throw it but over everyone’s heads. The Eagles’ defense was in their 4-1-6 look on all three throws. On the first two throws, the underneath routes were option. Yet, Goff chose to go deep. Sixth Throw: 3rd and 13The Rams are in another deep-yardage situation. They need a touchdown. The Eagles 4-1-6 sits blankets the end-zone once again. But Goff has an option in Gurley, who’s found a narrow seam in the defense. There’s only four rushers against the offensive line and while they were progressing, there was enough time to make the throw. But Goff throws the ball off-balance and misses Gurley. This picture’s definition sucks, but it’s good enough to give you an idea of how much space Goff still had before the pressure came to his face. The way he threw that ball made it seems like he was about to be swarmed. He panicked and rushed the throw. Look at his stance in mid-motion. This is how he threw the ball without pressure in his face. Jared Goff isn’t a system quarterback. He’s a young guy who needed some tutelage from a guy like McVay. But if the last two weeks have shown us anything, it’s that there’s still plenty of work to be done.
Each practice day Super Bowl Nick Allegretti Jersey , the Kansas City Chiefs will release an official injury report leading up to the next game. The Chiefs host the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. Here is the Chiefs’ final injury report of the week with official injury designations:PatriotsThe Patriots have no players listed on their injury report ahead of Sunday’s AFC title game. Some notesSafety Eric Berry was listed as a “full participant” for the third straight day on Friday. Berry has missed the Chiefs’ last two games (Week 17 and last week against the Colts) due to his lingering heel injury but should play on Sunday.Berry on Friday, when asked if he was confident he would play in the game: “Yeah, I feel pretty good. [I’ll] just talk to coach (Reid) and see what he wants to do and just go from there.”Remember, here’s what Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton said regarding Berry on Thursday: “Won’t know until Sunday probably. He’s back practicing and we all have our hopes that he’s going to be able to make it and we’ll just have to wait and see. We’re practicing a lot of people so in case he can’t go or whatever, we go ... With EB right now, it’s truly a day-to-day deal, and it’s not coach-talk, that’s just how it is. We just kind of have to go and play each day, plan the practice accordingly and go. We obviously would love to have him out there.”After they started the week as “limited participants” on Wednesday, right guard Laurent Durvernay-Tardif and running back Spencer Ware should be ready, as they have no designation headed into the game. Duvernay-Tardif last played Week 5 and Ware last played Week 14.I think there is a scenario in which the Chiefs hold Duvernay-Tardif back, or move Andrew Wylie to left guard from right guard. Wylie has played well in Duvernay-Tardif’s place, while the Chiefs went back and forth between Cam Erving and Jeff Allen at left guard this season.Linebacker Dorian O’Daniel Football Nick Allegretti Jersey , who missed last week against the Colts, did not practice this week and is the only player on both teams expected to miss the game. As of Thursday, the Patriots have nobody on their injury report. KANSAS CITY, Mo. 鈥斅燭he Kansas City Chiefs have made a habit of inciting controversy during the NFL draft in the Andy Reid era by acquiring players that have a history of off-the-field issues. This year, they didn’t even wait until the draft. The Chiefs swung a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday to acquire pass rusher Frank Clark for a package of picks, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. The two sides then reached an agreement on a $105.5 million, five-year contract that was contingent on Clark passing a physical, which was expected to be completed Wednesday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal, which sent the Chiefs’ first-round pick this year and a second-rounder next year to Seattle, had not become official. That didn’t stop fans, talk-radio hosts and people from just about every walk of life in Kansas City from debating the merits of bringing in yet another player with baggage. The team took a chance on cornerback Marcus Peters, who was traded away after getting into trouble with coaches. It drafted running back Kareem Hunt, then quickly cut him when he kicked a woman in a hotel hallway. And it picked wide receiver Tyreek Hill Mecole Hardman Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys , who was dealing with his own domestic violence case that centered on the 3-year-old child he shares with his fiance. While Clark has stayed out of trouble during four years in the NFL, he was kicked off the team at Michigan when he was charged with first-degree domestic violence and assault following an incident with his then-girlfriend. The charges were later reduced to fourth-degree persistent disorderly conduct and Clark completed a domestic violence course and paid court costs and fines. One organization that called the trade “disconcerting” was the Rose Brooks Center, which has been providing a safe haven for victims of domestic violence for 40 years.“Organizations and other systems have a community responsibility to hold offenders accountable, just as Rose Brooks Center does, in order to end the epidemic of domestic violence,” the center said in a statement. “When we do not hold offenders accountable, it sends a message of acceptance not only to the offender, but to the victim, reducing the likelihood that a victim will come forward.”The Chiefs have not commented on the trade because it has yet to become official, though the team did tweet video from the locker room of a No. 55 jersey with Clark’s name on it.His arrival continues a trend of the Chiefs giving players with questionable off-the-field histories a second chance, with mixed results.Peters, who was kicked off his team at Washington for fighting with his coach, quickly became one of the league’ best cornerbacks. But increasingly erratic conduct reached a tipping point when Peters got into an altercation with then-defensive coordinator Bob Sutton following a game.Peters ultimately was shipped to the Rams last offseason for second- and fourth-round draft picks. In 2016 Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys 2019 , the Chiefs used a fifth-round pick on Hill, who was kicked off the team at Oklahoma State after punching his pregnant girlfriend and transferred to tiny West Alabama. His elite speed and game-breaking ability made him one of the league’s biggest stars on the field, but off the field many fans were dismayed at the pick 鈥?some even gave up season tickets or swore off the team altogether.Hill completed a series of steps to have the original domestic violence charges expunged, and he had stayed out of trouble until last month when police were called to his home twice in a span of nine days to investigate a report of child abuse and battery of a juvenile. On Wednesday, the Johnson County district attorney declined to press charges in the case because he could not determine whether it was Hill or his fiance, Crystal Espinal, that injured the child.“We believe a crime has occurred,” district attorney Steve Howe said. “We’ve asked the police to do quite a bit of follow-up work. They’ve completed their investigation and we’re at an impasse at this point and any further investigation would be unwarranted.”The Chiefs have declined to discuss Hill even as they began offseason workouts, and coach Andy Reid merely said “he is here” when asked about his talented wide receiver last week.General manager Brett Veach also declined to discuss the case.“I think it’s going to work itself out here,” he said, “and we’ll deal with the information as it comes. Like I said, there’s nothing I’d probably be in a position to say right now on that.”The Chiefs have been quick in addressing domestic violence in at least one case. After choosing Hunt despite a history of issues in college, and watching him lead the league in rushing as a rookie 2019 Mecole Hardman Kansas City Chiefs , they wasted no time in cutting him once video surfaced of an incident in an Ohio hotel hallway. Hunt was seen pushing and kicking a woman while she was on the ground.“Our scouting staff does a really good job of vetting players and part of that analysis is their character,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said at the time. “Obviously, it’s very hard to learn everything about somebody. Sometimes you have somebody who in college didn’t have any incidents, then they get to the pro level and with the fame and fortune that comes with the position, they do something you don’t expect. We’re certainly going to try to get better, but I don’t think you can ever be perfect.”It’s unclear what kind of due diligence the Chiefs did when it came to Clark, though two people familiar with his signing said the background work done was extensive. What they heard was enough to make the Chiefs comfortable not only with bringing him aboard, but also making Clark one of the highest-paid pass rushers in the NFL.
The Patriots have been in training camp for a little while now and that’s given quarterback Tom Brady a chance to get work in with the team’s post-Rob Gronkowski tight end group. How things are going with that group — Benjamin Watson 2019 N'Keal Harry Jersey , Matt LaCosse, Stephen Anderson, Ryan Izzo and Lance Kendricks — was a topic at Brady’s press conference on Wednesday. Brady was asked how significant the loss of Gronkowski feels right now.“To replace great players, it’s not like you just pick another one off the tight end tree. You can’t just go out back,” Brady said. “You’ve got to find guys that come in and want to put the work in and want to try and contribute. Between the guys we have out here now, which is Ben N'Keal Harry NFL Draft , and Matt, Stephen, Ryan Izzo, Lance who we just got — those guys are trying to do everything they can do. They’re all new players, so we’ve got to figure out how to get them up to speed to what our expectations are, the level of competition on a daily basis.”Watson won’t be part of the group for the first four games due to a suspension and fullback James Develin could factor into the Patriots’ thinking about how to position everyone now that Gronkowski has moved on to other endeavors. How all of those pieces fit will be one of many things to watch when New England kicks off their season against the Steelers on Sunday Night Football.FanPulse: Patriots have the least confident fanbase in the AFC East Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse — a survey of fans across the NFL Color Rush Jarrett Stidham Jersey , powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Patriots fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse. The New England Patriots are sitting at 1-2 heading into tomorrow’s meeting against the 3-0 Miami Dolphins. Safe to say, things have not gone smoothly for the most successful team of this century over the first three weeks of the season: the defense has struggled two games in a row, while the offense has not been able to get into any consistent rhythm. The Patriots’ recent struggles are reflected in the confidence score of our weekly FanPulse survey. While 90% of fans were confident about the direction of the franchise entering week one, this number dipped to 87% one week later (despite New England’s opening day win) and down 76% after the 31-20 week two loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars. After the recent 26-10 loss against the Detroit Lions Youth Jarrett Stidham Jersey , only 31% of fans participating in the survey said that they still feel confident in the direction the team is moving. This places New England’s fanbase among the least confident in the entire NFL – only six are less confident in their respective teams – and at the bottom of the AFC East:Despite the low confidence score, Patriots fans have not given up hope that the team defeats Miami tomorrow. According to the result of this week’s survey, New England’s followers think the team will win tomorrow with a three-point difference. For comparison, the Dolphins’ followers believe that their team will win on Sunday by two points.
NAPA Womens Derek Carr Jersey , Calif. (AP) — P.J. Hall and Maurice Hurst wasted little time providing the inside pass rush that Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden wanted when he used two draft picks on the defensive tackles.Hall delivered on his first snap as a pro, bringing down Detroit’s Matt Cassel in the exhibition opener. Hurst got pressure twice with one of those leading to Hall deflecting a pass by Cassel. That’s an ingredient that has been sorely missing in Oakland for years and will go a long way toward upgrading a defense that hopes to be much improved in the first year under Gruden and coordinator Paul Guenther.“I was pleased with it,” Gruden said Monday. “I think it’s an area that we’ve gone out to try to improve and we have a long way to go. But, there were some good signs.”The Raiders drafted Hall in the second round after he recorded 42 sacks in his college career at FCS-level Sam Houston State. Oakland then was able to add another potential impact rusher in the fifth round when Hurst fell from a projected first-round pick because of a heart issue that led him to be sent home from the combine.Hurst was one of the most productive defensive players in the country last season at Michigan. He had 5½ sacks as an interior rusher and led all nose tackles and defensive tackles with 49 total quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.Hurst has had no health issues since being drafted and delivered just what the Raiders expected.“He’s going to continue to get better,” Gruden said. “I think going up against (Kelechi) Osemele and Gabe Jackson and (Rodney) Hudson all camp has made him better. It’s made him stronger. It’s made him play with better technique and leverage. He still has a ways to go but he and P.J. Hall both give us an element that we need here.”The Raiders have the second-fewest sacks in the NFL the past two seasons with just 56 — one more than the last-place New York Jets. Nearly two-thirds of those sacks have come from Khalil Mack (21 1/2) and Bruce Irvin (15) Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , as the edge players have gotten almost no help from the inside rushers.Oakland had just 1 1/2 sacks last year from players playing inside full-time, making the performance in the preseason opener so encouraging.Hall’s sack came on the opening drive when Cassel was forced to step up in the pocket because of outside pressure by Irvin and Fadol Brown. Hall figures more of those opportunities will come, especially once Mack ends his holdout and rejoins the team.“I definitely feel that will help a lot,” he said. “He’s a great edge rusher. He will make the quarterbacks step up in the pocket so I need to make sure I get a good interior rush.”The interior rush is a key part of Guenther’s defense. He had one of the best in the game at it during his time in Cincinnati when Geno Atkins anchored the Bengals defense.Hurst said he has tried to model his game after Atkins and embraces the challenge of trying to fill that role in Oakland.“Definitely gets me amped up,” he said. “The Bengals, their best player was their 3-technique Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , so that’s the focal point of their defense and that’s what Coach Guenther is used to getting. That’s what he’s got his whole time in the NFL. He drafted Geno, so I think it says something to him for drafting me and P.J. I think he definitely expects a lot from us and expects us to fill that role that he had while he was with the Bengals.”NOTES: CB Gareon Conley returned to practice for the first time since injuring his hip on the first day of training camp. …CB Daryl Worley left practice after colliding with teammate Rashaan Melvin. It’s been a revolving door at right tackle for the Texans after the injury to rookie offensive tackle Tytus Howard. Howard will be out again this week with a slightly torn MCL.Swing tackle Roderick Johnson was his replacement, but he suffered a neck injury last week and was unable to finish the game. Dan Skipper, who was signed off the Patriots practice squad, replaced Johnson and finished the game for the Texans last week.During my interview on Just Pod Baby with Patrick Starr, who covers the Texans for SI.com Womens Antonio Brown Jersey , he believed it would be Skipper who would get the start this week versus the Raiders.Aaron Wilson, beat writer for the Houston Chronicle, is now reporting different information with game time just an hour away. The Texans are going with veteran Chris Clark to get the start at right tackle.Clark is 34 years old and will be making his 67th career start in the league.Follow @Egroat5
Ben Roethlisberger returns to the scene of one of his greatest triumphs on Sunday night. He’s hoping that’s the place the Pittsburgh Steelers will rediscover how to consistently reach the end zone. The Steelers http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-frank-ragnow-jersey , who face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, have won their last two games despite settling for field goals far too much for Roethlisberger’s taste. That’s been a season-long problem for Pittsburgh, which ranks 30th in red-zone efficiency. It has scored touchdowns on only 42.3 percent of possessions after reaching the opponent’s 20-yard line.Pittsburgh (5-2) has still managed to build a two-game lead in the AFC North.“There’s a lot of resilience,” Roethlisberger said. “The defense is playing really good football. Offense hasn’t played up to our potential yet but we’re still winning football games. We’re doing just enough to get by right now. I’d like to think the last two weeks have been good, positive steps forward for our offense and hopefully we continue that.”Roethlisberger has bounced back from a dreadful five-interception performance against Jacksonville in victories over Kansas City and Cincinnati. He’s thrown three touchdown passes while getting picked off only once. He’ll need to be careful against a Lions’ defense that’s forced 14 turnovers — third-most in the league — including nine interceptions.“They’re very opportunistic, a lot of turnovers,” Roethlisberger said. “Balls are tipped and they catch them. Doesn’t seem like a ball that’s in the air ever hits the ground.”Roethlisberger was walking on air early in his career when he won the first of his two Super Bowls at Ford Field. The Steelers defeated Seattle 21-10 on Feb. 5, 2006 during his second season. Roethlisberger, who also won a regular-season game there in November 2009, always gets a special feeling when he sees the building.“Before the game Womens Nick Bellore Jersey , it will bring back a lot of great memories and thoughts, walking out there and driving up to the stadium,” he said. “But once the game starts, I’m solely focused on this game.”Disgruntled receiver Martavis Bryant has shined an unpleasant spotlight on himself this week. He said Wednesday that he’ll be benched Sunday after publicly asking for a trade. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin called Bryant’s actions “somewhat of a distraction.”“It’s OK to want more playing time and want to be a central reason why we’re successful, provide you relay that in an appropriate way,” Tomlin said. “Social media is not the appropriate way.”Rookie Juju Smith-Schuster will likely start in his place. The Lions (3-3) lost to Carolina and New Orleans in their last two outings.“I don’t make a whole lot of pronouncements about who’s doing what. All I talk about is where we are as a team and right now as a team we’re very inconsistent,” coach Jim Caldwell said. “We’re 3-3 and that’s not good enough.”Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns but was also picked off three times in the 52-38 loss to the Saints. He toughed it out despite suffering hamstring and ankle injuries the previous week against the Panthers.Detroit’s bye week came at a good time for Stafford and his equally battered offensive line.“I needed to take care of myself physically and mentally refresh, get away for a little bit and think about something other than football for a couple days,” Stafford said. The break also came at a good time for his receiving corps. Top wideout Golden Tate, who’s dealing with a shoulder injury Womens Marvin Jones Jr Jersey , practiced on a limited basis Wednesday. Rookie Kenny Golladay, who missed the last three games with a hamstring issue, also returned to practice.“Guys had some stuff to take care of, start feeling a little bit better,” Stafford said. “Some guys have turned that corner and that will help us. And then from on the field stuff, we’ve got to go out there and just play sharper. We’ve got to execute our systems a little bit better and find ways to win games.”Stafford will continue to get beaten up if the running game doesn’t perk up. The Lions rank 26th at 84 rushing yards per game. In contrast, Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell, a former Michigan State star, is averaging 97.7 yards. On the injury front, Lions offensive tackle Greg Robinson (ankle) is a question mark but punter Sam Martin is expected to make his season debut after recovering from an ankle injury.Offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) Womens Miles Killebrew Jersey , tight end Vance McDonald (knee) and defensive end Stephon Tuitt (back) are the Steelers’ biggest injury concerns. Welp. I just don’t know what to say anymore about this team. Earlier in the week after the Lions suffered a hosing at the hands of the Green Bay REFS Packers, I wrote that, however the Lions responded after that debacle would be what would ultimately be what defined their season. Well, they responded with a 42-30 loss to a division rival for a third straight loss. As always, I have thoughts on this game. These are those thoughts. Lions defense was completely non existentSomehow this team has been able to somehow perform really well against some of the league’s best quarterbacks, but came out and laid an egg against a middle-tier guy like Kirk Cousins. Look, I’m not gonna take anything away from Cousins. He’s been absolutely balling these last few weeks and Sunday was no different. He was a whiz when it came to play action passes and the Lions bit every single time. Cousins went 24-34 for 337 yards and fourtouchdowns and completed 70.6% of his passes. The reason for that is probably because Dalvin Cook was unstoppable all day. He finished the day with 142 yards and two touchdowns. We knew the Lions would have trouble stopping the Vikings run game, but all hope for that was swiftly shut down when Cook continued to beat this defense up for his fifth 100-yard game of the season. The Lions have a chance for their defense to rebound, as their next two opponents (Giants, Raiders) feature offenses that are currently struggling. But allowing Cousins to pass deep to Stefon Diggs late in a game when you have three timeouts and a chance to get the ball back just isn’t going to cut it anymore. The Vikings sealed the game two plays later with another touchdown. Who are the Lions? They’re many things Womens Devon Kennard Jersey , but I’m not sure a good team is one of them anymore. I can’t harp on it enough. The Lions really needed to prove themselves on Sunday after what happened on “Monday Night Football.” They didn’t. They also needed to prove they could beat a good football team. They didn’t do that either. So with 10 games left and the Lions sitting now at the bottom of the NFC North, is it time to start thinking about next year? Worse yet, is it time to start wondering about this coaching staff and even the man that runs the team, GM Bob Quinn. The Lions really need to get things turned around as soon as possible. But there was thisThe Lions didn’t win the game. But I’m not going to ignore what Marvin Jones did on Sunday. There is just something about this guy when he plays against the Vikings. I just can’t explain it. Jones went off with 10 receptions for 93 yards and four touchdowns. Two of those came against Xavier Rhodes. The last touchdown caused Rhodes to throw his helmet to the ground in anger and frustrated. I get it. I used to be frustrated when I couldn’t beat my dad at things too. Then I turned 15. Matthew Stafford’s big day at workAgain, the Lions didn’t win. But they did get another good performance from their quarterback. Stafford went 30-45 for 364 yards and four touchdowns. Oh yeah, he also became the quickest quarterback to reach 40,000 career passing yards. Stafford may never get to hoist the Lombardi Trophy or win an MVP award, but the record books will have his name all over them. Let’s just hope someday I’ll be wrong about those two other things. Injury bug always bites hardLet me preface this by saying that all injuries are bad. But the Lions always seem to have the game changing injuries rather than losing a guy who plays special teams or a number four receiver. The Lions lost Kerryon Johnson and Darius Slay on Sunday for who knows how long. Even if it’s just one game, the Lions can’t really afford it right now being under .500. Throw on top of that the fact that Da’Shawn Hand has yet to play a game this season and you have trouble going forward, even if the Lions schedule lightens up. Speaking of lightening upThe Lions can’t do it. There’s 10 games left now and while the Lions will have some easier teams to play against like the Giants Kerryon Johnson Jersey , Raiders, Bucs, Washington and the Broncos, they can afford no slip-ups now. The hopes of winning the NFC North are likely dashed again. I’m sorry to say it. I just don’t see how the Lions can catch the Packers being four games back and also having to compete with a Vikings team that just dropped 42 points on them and a Bears team that might be good too. Right now the Lions have to focus on making the playoffs and they’re pretty much going to have to win eight of the next 10 games to just get a chance to do it. After seven week and Sunday’s performance, my usual optimism is waning pretty hard. I’m sure I’m not alone there. Anyways, I always end this thing with a song I think reflects this game. So here’s this one.
