GLENDALE Columbus Blue Jackets T-Shirts Womens , Ariz. — The Tampa Bay Lightning are well aware of the dangers of waiting until January or February to start making a playoff push.Perhaps that’s why they often take care of business, and in an emphatic way, well before that. The Arizona Coyotes, whose inability to reach the playoffs is in direct contrast to the Lightning’s frequent playoff success, know all too well how a season can get away from a team in October.Article continues below ...The Lightning, off to their usual strong start, will take a seven-game points streak into Gila River Arena to play the Coyotes on Saturday night. It’s the second half of a back-to-back for the Lightning, who won their third in a row by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 at T-Mobile Arena on Friday.Tyler Johnson, Brayden Point and J.T. Miller scored for the Lightning, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves.“Our goaltender was there when we needed him and recorded a big win in a tough spot on the road,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “He was in the zone again and was tracking pucks, and our guys were good with letting him see pucks. You can get the shots Columbus Blue Jackets Hoodies Womens , but if he can see them, he’ll usually stop them.”Victor Hedman, the Lightning’s star defenseman, sustained an undisclosed injury midway through the first period and didn’t return. He is not expected to play Saturday, but Cooper doesn’t think his injury will be long term. The Lightning are 7-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 in their last seven games. Nothing new there for a team that opened up 9-1-1 and 16-3-2 last season and was 5-1 to start the 2016-17 season. They’ve used good beginnings to help them reach the Eastern Conference finals two of the last three seasons. The Coyotes, however, aren’t the team they were at the start of the last two NHL seasons — and that’s encouraging to coach Rick Tocchet and his players.Arizona opened up 1-10-1 last season and never recovered. The season before that, the Coyotes lost five of their first six. This season, the Coyotes (4-5-0) have won two in a row — the first time in three Octobers they’ve done that — and three of four. Much of the reason for the Coyotes’ improvement is their goaltending, with both starter Antti Raanta (2-4, 2.32 goals-against average) and backup Darcy Kuemper (2-1, 1.34) playing well to date.“We’ve gotten excellent goaltending Columbus Blue Jackets Hats Womens , right from the start of the year, and it’s really helped us,” Tocchet said Friday. “We’re still giving up some Grade-A chances, and we’ll try to eliminate that, but the goalies have been really good. They’re giving us a chance to win every night.”Raanta sat out the last two games with flu-like symptoms, and Kuemper stepped in to make 62 saves on 64 shots as the Coyotes beat the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday and the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, both by 4-1 scores. The Coyotes’ season quickly came apart last season when Raanta missed much of the first half of the season with three different injuries and Tocchet and general manager John Chayka couldn’t find a suitable backup. They tried Louis Domingue, Scott Wedgewood and Adin Hill without success, with Dominque going 0-6 with a 4.33 goals-against average and an .856 save percentage. But once Raanta was healthy during the second half of the season, his 2.24 goals-against average and .930 save percentage were the best in the NHL for goaltenders who played as much as he did. And Chayka not only picked up the reliable Kuemper in a late-season trade with the Los Angeles Kings, he signed Raanta and Kuemper to multi-year contracts.Coincidentally, Domingue landed with the Lightning despite his horrid statistics with Arizona Custom Columbus Blue Jackets Jerseys , and he’ll start Saturday night against his former team. The Coyotes also appear to have solved their early-season scoring issues. They were shut out in three of their first four games, including their first two home games, but they’ve scored 15 goals in the past four games.“We didn’t score in the first few games, but we knew if we stuck with it the goals would come in bunches, and that’s kind of happened,” forward Brendan Perlini said. The Lightning and Coyotes split their two-game season series in 2017-18, with each team winning in the other’s building. SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The San Jose Sharks had been frequent flyers in recent weeks, playing all but one of their eight previous games on the road. Finally back at home on Monday night, they celebrated with a convincing victory over the New Jersey Devils.Timo Meier scored twice, Joe Pavelski added his 20th goal of the season and the Sharks beat the Devils 5-2 for their fourth win in five games. We just miss consistently in some areas of the game and that hurt us tonight,” said Devils center Travis Zajac. “We keep finding ways to hurt our game. We can’t consistently string together any momentum.”Stafford gave New Jersey a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, but the Sharks responded with goals by Meier and Pavelski in a 2:12 span later in the period. Meier’s 15th goal came on a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid, and Pavelski gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead by pouncing on a rebound that Kinkaid failed to handle.Simek, playing in his fifth NHL game, made it 3-1 midway through the second period on a shot from just inside the blue line past a screened Kinkaid.“It was maybe a little bit lucky, the goalkeeper maybe he not see anything. But I am happy for it,” said Simek, who joined the Sharks earlier this month. “It is a great feeling, I’m very happy for my first NHL goal and I will enjoy it with my girlfriend.”Greene put a loose puck past Jones less than two minutes later to again pull the Devils within a goal. The Senators have lost three straight.“That was our first stinker,” Senators coach Guy Boucher said. “We got out-competed in the first period and that usually doesn’t happen.”Arizona beat Tampa Bay 7-1 on Saturday and didn’t take long to keep the scoring going. Galchneyuk created a turnover by knocking away Mark Stone’s stick and slipped the puck behind Condon’s pads 4 1/2 minutes in. Richardson scored two minutes later, one-timing Michael Grabner’s pass from behind the goal.Stepan made it 3-0 late in the first period with a tumbling puck from Arizona’s blue line that squirted through Condon’s pads and sent him to the bench, replaced by Craig Anderson.“You give a team three goals, 90 percent of the time you’re not coming back,” Senators center Chris Tierney said.Tierney nearly got Ottawa back in it a minute into the second period, getting a goal reinstated upon review after it was initially waved off for high-sticking. I think with the group we have in here, the guys that are in here coming to compete every day we have a good chance every night.”The Flames (15-9-2) had to demonstrate some patience in the victory, which was on display until they could find the back of the net more than they did during the first two periods of Friday’s game. But after producing the three late goals, the Flames proved that they can rely on their defense until their goal scorers can get going.“Through 40 (minutes) Custom Philadelphia Flyers Jerseys , it didn’t seem like much was going on,” goalie Mike Smith told reporters after he made 13 saves. “It was a pretty boring game to be honest. But saying that, that can lead to some inconsistencies in your game and I thought our guys did a really good job of sticking with it. That’s a team … they’ve been like that for how long now? Just a team that waits for you to make a mistake and make you pay.”The Blackhawks (9-13-5) enter Sunday’s game riding a three-game losing streak after a 5-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Colliton has said the Blackhawks’ compete level needs to improve and that it needs to filter throughout a lineup that has its share of veteran leadership. But asked if the veterans need to keep the heads up of Chicago’s younger players through tough times, defenseman Duncan Keith — who was ejected from Saturday’s loss — bristled at the notion.“This is the NHL,” Keith told reporters Thursday, according to the Tribune. “It’s not really a developmental league. It’s about winning. It’s about results. That makes it more fun. Winning. Winning games.” CHICAGO (AP) — Brandon Saad threw his arms in the air and yelled as the crowd roared. The puck finally went in www.sanjosesharksteamshop.com , and it was quite a relief for the struggling forward.Saad scored his first two goals of the season, Patrick Kane snapped a third-period tie with his team-high eighth goal and the Chicago Blackhawks handed the Anaheim Ducks their third straight loss with a 3-1 victory Tuesday night.“When they’re not going in, you kind of grip a little tight, but when they’re going in they seem to open the floodgates,” Saad said. “The last game I had some chances. Ryan Kesler had a potential tying goal waved off because his stick was above the crossbar and Saad put it away with an empty-netter with 34 seconds left.Rickard Rakell scored for Anaheim, and Gibson finished with 35 saves. He had 18 goals and 17 assists last season after he returned to Chicago in a trade with Columbus for Artemi Panarin.“He was excellent tonight,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “That was a great play around the net.”Kane had a good look at a 2-0 lead early in the second, but Gibson got over and smothered his shot from the side. Its time is long past,” Bettman said Friday in Calgary as part of his Western Canadian tour. ”They don’t build buildings like this anymore.”Bettman listed a lack of amenities for fans and players as well as opportunities for ownership to generate revenue among the many shortcomings of the building that opened in 1983.He said it simply doesn’t compare in any way to Rogers Place, the new home of the Edmonton Oilers.”Have you been up the road to Edmonton?” Bettman said. ”Do you see a difference between the two buildings? You know the answer to the question.”Bettman added that Calgary concert-goers are losing out, too.”I was told that there were 27 acts, some of them multiple days, that have played in Edmonton since the building opened that haven’t played here,” Bettman said. ”That goes to the quality of life of the city and that’s an indication as to the differences in the buildings.”Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi has said the Flames’ proposal for a $500 million arena places a heavy tax burden on the city, but the Flames say the city’s plan would ultimately see the team foot the entire cost of construction.Bettman was involved throughout the process in Edmonton Authentic Baker Mayfield Jersey , working with then Mayor Stephen Mandel and owner Daryl Katz in helping get the deal done. On the eve of free agency Authentic Mats Zuccarello Jersey , John Tavares is leaving the NHL guessing about his destination. With less than 12 hours until the market opens, the elite center had not chosen between six suitors, with the San Jose Sharks, hometown Toronto Maple Leafs and incumbent New York Islanders considered the most likely options. Returning to the Islanders looks less likely now after the midnight deadline passed for Tavares to get an eight-year contract from his current team. The Tavares sweepstakes dragging on into Sunday seems to favor San Jose and Toronto, either of which could sign the 27-year-old to a seven-year deal worth $70 million or more. He met this week with the Sharks, Maple Leafs, Islanders, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning, and his decision could drastically affect the plans of those teams and others.”I think other teams have admitted Mika Zibanejad Jersey , we would have to make moves (to clear salary-cap space),” Bruins general manager Don Sweeny told reporters in Boston on Friday. ”Pretty confident we’d be able to do that.”As hockey waited for the Tavares watch to end, several teams made moves Saturday ahead of the frenzy. The Sharks agreed to a $64 million, eight-year extension with forward Logan Couture, according to a person familiar with the contract who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been announced. It can’t become official until after noon Sunday because it doesn’t begin until the 2019-20 season – the same as long-term deals the Los Angeles Kings have with Drew Doughty and Arizona Coyotes have with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Niklas Hjalmarsson.Detroit got its own defenseman under contract for the next two seasons by agreeing to deal with Mike Green that pays him $5,375,000 annually. Signing Green could be just the start of the action for the Red Wings, who have been linked to unrestricted free agent goaltender Jonathan Bernier and winger Thomas Vanek.New Jersey also shored up its goaltending situation by re-signing Eddie Lack to a $650,000, one-year deal. The Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights have cap space but might lose wingers David Perron and James Neal, who combined for 110 points last season. The Winnipeg Jets are doing their best to try to bring back center Paul Stastny after he was so instrumental in their playoff run. They cleared about $5.5 million in cap space by trading goaltender Steve Mason and Finnish forward Joel Armia to Montreal on Saturday but may still need more room to bring back the 32-year-old.The Canadiens are set to buy out Mason, putting him on unconditional waivers as the Minnesota Wild did with forward Tyler Ennis to clear cap space.Stastny fit in seamlessly after Winnipeg acquired him from St. Louis at the trade deadline but also might be better served waiting to see what Tavares does. Teams looking for a center who don’t land Tavares will look to Stastny and Toronto’s Tyler Bozak and could look into a trade for Buffalo’s Ryan O’Reilly, who is signed for the next five years and owed a $7.5 million bonus Sunday.—AP Sports Writer Josh Dubow in San Jose Vladislav Namestnikov Jersey , California, contributed to this report. Once Baker Mayfield summoned the courage Youth Maurice Canady Jersey , the rookie quarterback looked in time to see Greg Joseph's low, line-drive kick somehow go through the uprights.Mayfield's mouth opened in disbelief. The Browns won again. And in this unpredictable NFL season, Cleveland's rapid rise may be the strangest twist of them all.Joseph's 37-yard field goal 鈥?a knuckleball the rookie was certain had been blocked 鈥?with 2 seconds left in overtime gave Cleveland a 12-9 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. After Mayfield made a clutch third-down throw to help drive the Browns (2-2-1) into position, Joseph, who was cut by Miami this summer and signed after Week 2 following Zane Gonzalez's release, came through to give Cleveland its first AFC North win in 19 tries."I couldn't decide whether I wanted to look at the kick or not, so I turned around at the last second and saw it was pretty low," said Mayfield, who passed for 342 yards and a touchdown in his second NFL start. "It wasn't a pretty kick but it went in. It also wasn't a pretty win, but it counts."Believe it or not, the Browns are legit. They've played three overtime games in five weeks, and if not for some missed kicks in New Orleans and questionable call last week in Oakland, Cleveland could be unbeaten."We have a team right now that is starting to believe in themselves, and rightfully so," Mayfield said. "I take a lot of pride in the culture change and being positive http://www.ravensauthorizedshops.com/authentic-mark-andrews-jersey , always moving forward and doing your job no matter what the situation is. That was big for us."When the final kick sailed through, Browns fans celebrated just the team's second win in two seasons and Joseph, who missed an extra point in the first half, was mobbed by his teammates. It was vindication for Joseph, who also missed a 55-yarder at the end of regulation."I'll never forget anything about this game, the high points and the low points," he said. "It was awesome to see it go through, but I'm here for a reason and I believe I can kick in this league."The Ravens (3-2) had plenty of chances, but Joe Flacco threw a costly interception in the first half and the Browns blocked one of Justin Tucker's field goal tries. In his first start at home, Mayfield threw a 19-yard TD pass to Rashard Higgins, but his biggest play was a 39-yard completion to rookie Derrick Willies on Cleveland's winning drive."Baker just makes plays, man, and he knows what to do in tough situations," Browns guard Joel Bitonio said. The Ravens, who got another strong effort from their defense James Hurst Jersey , also had a chance to win it in the final minute of regulation, but wide receiver Michael Crabtree couldn't hold onto Flacco's pass in the back of the end zone."I should have made that catch," Crabtree said. "The game would have been over. I put that on me. If I have to catch 2,000 balls a week in practice, I'm going to have to do that."Tucker then tied it with a 32-yard field goal with 52 seconds left.On their third possession of OT, the Browns started at their own 5-yard line and were at their 18 facing a third down when Mayfield zipped a pass over the middle to Willies, who didn't have any catches coming in and was playing after Higgins went out with a knee injury.Duke Johnson ripped off a 15-yard run and had two more short carries before the Browns sent in Joseph, a college walk-on who was released by the Dolphins after training camp but got a another chance after Gonzalez missed four kicks in a Week 2 loss at New Orleans.Cleveland's win was also the Browns' first in 37 tries on a Sunday, and it gave Jackson his first victory inside the division in three seasons.Flacco finished 29 of 56 for 298 yards and one interception, but Baltimore's offense struggled to get into a rhythm all day."We had our chances," Flacco said. "In these kind of games when you have little chances, you have to be able to take advantage of them. The couple that we had, we probably just didn't execute well."ROOKIE ROLLINGBrowns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward continues to dazzle. The No. 4 overall draft pick intercepted Flacco i n the first half and then blocked Tucker's 48-yard attempt on the final play of the first half.Ward has three interceptions this season, and he's impressed his teammates with his toughness."The dude was everywhere again," Browns defensive end Myles Garrett said. However, with an injury to first round selection Hayden Hurst, Boyle had the opportunity to shine early in Week 1. While a pass interference call prevented his first career touchdown, Boyle helped Flacco get in rhythm out of the gate by hauling in two receptions for 36 yards on the first two plays of the season. Boyle tied with Javorius Allen, Michael Crabtree and Willie Snead IV for a game-high six targets. With Flacco’s documented affinity for connecting with tight ends, Boyle serves as an important veteran presence while Mark Andrews acclimates to the league and Hayden Hurst recovers from a stress fracture in his foot. Averaging 13.3 yards per reception against Buffalo, Boyle also matched his career-long reception of 25 yards against the Jaguars in his rookie season on the first pass of the game. While Flacco is likely to target Boyle less as he becomes more comfortable with his new receivers and tight ends, his reliability and two first downs will go a long way to increase his chances to be incorporated into game planning moving forward.
