Coming off a historically great team that puts them among the best teams in the history of the game, I suppose there is some reason to be confident. It surely won’t be easy for the Red Sox to repeat in 2019, and certainly not as easy as the confidence may indicate, but that’s what this time of year is for. Boston has as good a chance as any in the game to end the season on top of the baseball world. Rivera topped the poll http://www.padresfanproshop.com/authentic-brad-hand-jersey , but failed to become a unanimous selection, though was named on all but two ballots. Trevor Hoffman missed out by one vote last time, but made it well over the finishing line this time round, getting 45 votes, for an 83.3% selection rate. Like Hoffman, Jim Thome had made into Cooperstown in 2017, but been turned away from SnakePit Towers. We moved back into line there too, though it was much closer for Thome, as he was named on exactly the 41 ballots necessary for AZSP-HOF induction. Now that we’ve aligned more closely with the official Hall of Fame, it’ll be interesting to see what happens there. The results will be announced later today (4pm Arizona time, on the MLB Network), and Rivera is a lock to get in there. Indeed Manuel Margot Jersey , at the time of writing (Monday night), he is a unanimous choice on the BBHOF tracker, which collects the results of ballots whose authors have made them public. According to the current results there, he will be joined by Roy Halladay for sure, which is interesting, as he fell short of election here, getting two-thirds of nominations. Edgar Martinez will also be elected - we put him in last year - and Mike Mussina seems possible too, even though he fell short of even 60% on the SnakePit. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens both continue to creep closer. They were slightly over 50% last time, but Bonds in particular ticket sharply upwards, to 68.5%. That’s still short of the necessary votes for induction, sparing me the unfortunate task of having to raze the entire SnakePit Hall of Fame to the ground. TEMPE http://www.philliesfanproshop.com/authentic-pat-neshek-jersey , Ariz. (AP) — Los Angeles Angels right-hander Matt Harvey will be sidelined for at least a week as a precaution because of a glute strain he felt during agility drills. He said he expects to be ready by opening day.“It’s nothing to be alarmed about,” Harvey said Thursday. “It’s unfortunate it’s this early and with a new team and I have to miss a little time. I’ll pick up right where I left off.”Harvey signed a one-year, $11 million deal with the Angels in December and is looking to bounce back after last season. He went 7-9 with a 4.94 ERA in 32 games (28 starts) with the Mets and Reds last year.Angels manager Brad Ausmus said he expected the 29-year-old Harvey to miss a minimum of a week and a half.“You can recover from a week and a half,” Ausmus said. “It depends on how he feels when we reevaluate him and how he feels and how quickly he can get back on the mound and what he’s done in the interim. He can recover from that.”Harvey said he felt some tightness in his left hip during Wednesday’s workout, but added the discovery could be a blessing. Now, he’s got additional hip mobility and core strength exercises to do.“It’s nothing serious Robin Roberts Jersey ,” Harvey said. “If this was during the season, I would keep going, probably take some anti-inflammatories and keep playing. This early in the spring, we discussed, we just want to get it completely out of the way. We’re going to figure out how to not use my lower extremities and be able to throw so I don’t lose any arm strength or anything like that. Once I get cleared to fully move around, then I can jump right back out on the mound and get going.” Travis Shaw moving off of third base with the signing shouldn’t be assumed"When the Brewers agreed to bring back free agent Mike Moustakas on a one-year deal Tug McGraw Jersey , the assumption was that the move meant a return to the “Big Boy Infield” we saw in the second half of last season, with Travis Shaw moving back to second base.Hold that thought, though, according to Shaw himself:Just a couple days before the signing, Shaw said he would welcome Moustakas back to the team with open arms. He also said he knew it was a possibility Moustakas would return, so it’s not a stretch to think he may have had some conversations with Craig Counsell about what would happen in that scenario. It’s also worth noting that when the trade for Moustakas happened last July Drew Hutchison Jersey , Moose said he would be willing to spend some time at second base. If Shaw is confident he’ll stay at third, maybe it’s Moustakas’ turn to try his hand there. Considering their size and athletic abilities — and the fact that Shaw is the stronger defender of the two at third base — Moustakas at second always seemed to make a bit more sense in the grand scheme of things, even if they didn’t want to ask him to play there last year. With plenty of time in camp to get comfortable, though, that may be where we’re headed. It appears Tom Haudricourt thinks so, as he alluded to both in his second base preview for the Journal-Sentinel and on Twitter:Spring Training gives the Brewers time to figure things out without the pressure of a pennant race. If the Moustakas-At-Second experiment goes as poorly as the Scooter Gennett-In-The-Outfield or Ryan Braun-At-First experiments Larry Bowa Jersey , then perhaps we don’t see it in the regular season, but at least this time it has the benefit of not costing the team any games — and they already know Shaw isn’t a disaster there if they have to revert back to the 2018 alignment.UPDATE:Counsell himself says Moustakas will get time at second base this spring:
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have had a quiet offseason http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , aside of course from acquiring new president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi from the rival and six-time defending division champion Dodgers and challenging him with getting this franchise back into contention.Or, as Zaidi emphasized, competing night in and night out.San Francisco will be younger, with fewer big names, for sure. And some of those big names — take Buster Posey, Brandon Belt and Madison Bumgarner — are eager for fresh starts after injury-shortened years in 2018.Returning to respectability will be the first chore: The Giants finished 73-89 last season while trading away Andrew McCutchen to the Yankees in late August in a lost year. San Francisco struggled to score runs and went a majors-worst 5-21 in September but improved on its last-place 2017 finish of 64-98 by nine wins.Zaidi brought back left-hander Derek Holland for $7 million over one year and signed lefty Drew Pomeranz to a $1.5 million, one-year contract. They will add depth for a starting staff that in 2018 missed Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija for significant stretches in a second straight season. Here are some things to know about the Giants:POSEY’S PROGRESS: Posey underwent season-ending hip surgery in August. At the December winter meetings in Las Vegas, Zaidi said he absolutely still considers Posey the face of the franchise and a feared hitter in the middle of the batting order. That’s after Posey hit .284 with five home runs and 41 RBIs.The hip did limit the catcher at the plate.INJURED PITCHERS: Manager Bruce Bochy has said he expects Bumgarner to bounce back like his old self — the dominant southpaw who captured 2014 World Series MVP honors.Bumgarner broke the pinkie on his pitching hand when he was hit by a line drive from Kansas City’s Whit Merrifield in his final 2018 spring training start, then had surgery to insert pins into the finger. He returned and wound up 6-7 with a 3.26 ERA in 21 starts and 129 2/3 innings. The lefty ace missed nearly three months last year following a dirt bike accident during an off day in Colorado.Cueto had Tommy John surgery in August.Samardzija “is pretty much on schedule,” according to Zaidi, after the right-hander dealt with shoulder issues that limited him to 10 starts and just 44 2/3 innings as he went 1-5 with a 4.17 ERA.NEW LOOK: Gone are fan favorite Hunter Pence, hothead Hunter Strickland and reliable outfielders Gregor Blanco and Gorkys Hernandez.Pomeranz is familiar with the Bay Area — he spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with Oakland — and the NL West, having pitched for Colorado and San Diego. He spent the past three years with Boston.Pomeranz won a career-high 17 games for the Red Sox in 2017. But he went 2-6 with a 6.08 ERA last season and was limited to 11 starts and 26 appearances for the World Series champions because of two stints on the disabled list — first with a strained left forearm followed by biceps tendinitis in his pitching arm.He did not pitch in the World Series but was on the roster.“My big thing is getting back on track to doing what I can do and just being myself again because it’s very frustrating when you have to fight through a year where you know this isn’t me, how do I fix this, what can I do to make sure this never happen again?” he said. “In that regard, this just felt like a great fit for me.”ROOKIES TO WATCH: Catcher Joey Bart, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft last year, got an invitation to big league spring training and will give the Giants a glimpse of the future. Bart is the team’s top prospect after hitting 13 homers and 14 doubles in 45 games in Class-A last year and will get the chance to work alongside Posey. Bart figures to be a big part of the team’s plans in 2020.THEY’RE NOT: The Giants have plenty of uncertainty in the outfield following the departures of Pence and Blanco. The most experienced outfielder on the roster is Mac Williamson Roger Maris Jersey , who has played only 120 games in his career.PITCHING ANALYST: The Giants hired pitching analyst Matt Daniels to join Zaidi’s staff. Daniels left his position in Seattle as pitching coordinator of driveline baseball to join San Francisco. There is ample evidence that Miley can continue to be a valuable out-getter moving forward."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Brewers Rumors and SpeculationConversation StartersWPA Game RecapsTransactionsLatest NewsMLB Trade RumorsStatistical AnalysisBrewers Rumors and SpeculationMilwaukee Brewers Free Agent Targets: Wade MileyNew,81commentsThere is ample evidence that Miley can continue to be a valuable out-getter moving forward.CSTShareTweetShareShareMilwaukee Brewers Free Agent Targets: Wade MileyBenny Sieu-USA TODAY SportsWade Miley was perhaps the most surprising contributor to the Milwaukee Brewers’ highly-successful 2018 season. Miley struggled mightily for a two-year stretch with the Mariners and Orioles, limping to a 5.48 ERA over 62 starts. That forced him to settle for a minor-league deal with the Brewers after Spring Training had begun last February. The veteran lefty found new life in Milwaukee, crafting an excellent 2.57 ERA (159 ERA+) in 16 starts. He continued that success into the postseason, allowing just two runs over 14.2 innings.Miley is now back on the free agent market, and he’s all but guaranteed to secure a better deal this time around. The Brewers are reportedly keeping tabs on him, and Ken Rosenthal has recently speculated that the team could look to clear payroll to make a reunion possible. The Brewers’ reported interested in Miley is good news, because David Stearns should absolutely be making an effort to get the southpaw back in a blue-and-gold uniform. The main argument against bringing Miley back is that the Brewers caught lightning in a bottle, and they should be content with that. They should let him walk so that a different team can suffer the results of massive regression. It is true that Miley isn’t going to be able to repeat his sparkling results from last season. This is mainly due to his unsustainably-low home run rate. Miley finished the season with a minuscule HR/9 of 0.33, which is even lower than Jacob deGrom’s 0.41 mark. That’s guaranteed to increase substantially next season, especially if Miley continues to start his home games at hitter-friendly Miller Park. His HR/9 will likely be closer to his career rate of 0.98. That would still put him comfortably below the league average. However, there’s reason to believe that Miley won’t experience much more regression than that. His strand rate of 75.9% isn’t much higher than his career mark of 72.2%. There were no underlying signs that heavy regression was coming. Rather, Miley’s peripherals continued to improve as the 2018 campaign progressed.Miley walked fewer hitters as the year went on, and his FIP- and hard contact rate dropped rather steadily. The Statcast-powered Baseball Savant believes that Miley was among the league’s best when it came to limiting hard contact. He finished the season with an excellent 28.5% hard contact rate. That ranked 16th among qualified pitchers, and Miley’s average exit velocity of 85 miles per hour ranked 15th. He excelled at keeping the ball on the ground, posting a strong 54.3% ground ball rate.Much of Miley’s newfound success was thanks to his cutter. It was previously an occasional alternative to his fastball, but in 2018 he turned it into his primary offering. Miley threw his cutter a whopping 41% of the time. Opponents failed to do much with it, managing a mere .252 wOBA against the pitch. FanGraphs’ linear pitch weights measured it at 9.6 runs above average. That made it the fifth-most-valuable cutter in baseball.Perhaps the greatest impact of Miley’s increased cutter usage was that it gave him a weapon to neutralize right-handed hitters. He consistently pounded righties down and in with the cutter.FanGraphsThe results were quite dramatic.Baseball SavantMiley limited righties to a .283 wOBA, which is easily the worst they have ever performed against him. It wasn’t a fluky improvement http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , either. Miley’s .279 xwOBA (calculated based on quality of contact) against righties lines up nearly perfectly with his results. In particular, his cutter held right-handed batters to a lowly .249 wOBA and .264 xwOBA. It gave Miley the equalizer that he so desperately needed. The only downside to Miley’s new approach is that it came at the expense of his strikeout rate. He managed a mere 14.8% and 5.58 K/9 last season. He has reinvented himself as someone who can limit hard contact thanks to his cutter, but the results a team will get from Miley will be heavily dependent on the defense behind him. One reason why Miley was so successful last season is that the Brewers are one of the most effective teams in the game when it comes to shifting. Milwaukee held opponents to a .281 wOBA last season when deploying any kind of shift, which was the sixth-best in baseball and second-best in the National League. They also have a generally strong defensive infield, with Travis Shaw (+9 DRS), Orlando Arcia (+4), and Jesus Aguilar (+6) all grading out well defensively. That, combined with the team’s efficiency at positioning their defenders, helped Milwaukee’s pitching staff as a whole post a .279 BABIP, which was the fourth-lowest in the game.Miley clearly benefited from the shifting. His BABIP on ground balls was a minuscule .192, which was easily the lowest mark of his career. That’s not a coincidence. Miley was pitching with a shift behind him 19% of the time in 2016 and 15% of the time in 2017. With the Brewers, Miley was pitching with the benefit of a shift about twice as often. The Brewers deployed a shift 36% of the time when he was on the mound, and it helped his results. Miley has always been a ground ball pitcher, and there’s no reason to believe that will change next season. Even if his hard contact rate rises, the Brewers could still minimize the potential damage by positioning their infielders in the right location. In addition to using shifts to help their pitchers, the Brewers often limit their exposure to keep them effective. Craig Counsell typically has a quick hook with his starters, who usually hit the showers after facing the opposing order a second time. Brewer starters faced just 660 hitters a third time in 2018, which was the third-lowest total in baseball. Miley has a career 3.95 ERA and 3.85 FIP the first two times through the order. He’s been far less successful the third time through, with a career 4.99 ERA and 4.68 FIP. The new Miley excels at inducing weak contact Brett Gardner Jersey , and the Brewers excel at having defenders in the right place at the right time. He’s most effective the first two times through the order, and Counsell is known for pulling starters early. If there’s any team that can get the best possible results from Miley moving forward, it’s the Brewers. The caveat here is that the Brewers would be putting a fair amount of stock into a 16-start sample size, which is roughly half a season’s worth of work. However, the fact that Miley’s peripherals were trending in the right direction is encouraging. Bringing him back would give the Brewers more depth and more flexibility. Brandon Woodruff’s ability to effectively fill any role was huge for the team down the stretch. If the season started today, he would likely be a member of the rotation. Bringing Miley back to round out the starting five would allow Woodruff to move back into a versatile role. That brings us to another reason for re-upping with Miley: he’s familiar with the organization’s unorthodox pitching strategies. Craig Counsell frequently refers to his pitchers as “out-getters” and is not afraid to use them unconventionally. Miley himself was a central figure of one such instance. He was named the initial out-getter for Game 5 of the NLCS to force the Dodgers to deploy a righty-heavy lineup. However, Counsell pulled Miley after facing just one batter, with Woodruff relieving him and serving as the real “starter” for the game. This forced Dave Roberts to choose between burning his bench in the first inning or playing with the platoon disadvantage. While some pitchers might not feel comfortable being part of such a strange strategy, Miley said that he’s not opposed to Counsell’s unconventional approach to managing the pitching staff. The ideal scenario would be Miley accepting a one-year deal to return to Milwaukee. However, he still appears to be holding out for a multi-year contract. MLB Trade Rumors predicts him to return on a two-year, $12 million deal. That would be a riskier move, especially since Miley was recently one of the worst starters in baseball.Judging him based on his previous work may not be fair, though. Miley’s improvements appear to be largely legitimate, and Milwaukee is the perfect fit for his style of pitching. He has never dealt with a major arm injury, and he has made 29 or more starts in six of his eight big-league seasons. Durability should not be a concern. David Stearns shouldn’t hesitate to offer Miley a two-year deal worth $12 million. The old adage is that you can never have too much pitching. This is especially true for an organization that values depth as highly as the Brewers do. He may not replicate his surprising “ace” production from last season, but there’s plenty of evidence that Wade Miley can continue to be a valuable out-getter next year and beyond.Statistics courtesy of FanGraphs and Baseball Savant

Today, Opening Day will be celebrated across all four full-season levels and we’ll have all sorts of baseball to follow. It is just fantastic. With that in mind, we’ll spend this week looking at what to watch and what we can expect from the minor-league levels in the Red Sox system. Obviously, the farm system is not in a great place right now, but there are still plenty of reasons to follow this system. Today, we’ll finish with the Low-A Greenville Drive squad. The headlineTo this point in this exercise, the headlining group for all of the full-season minor-league squads in the Red Sox system have been the pitching. It was the bullpen in Pawtucket while the rotations in Portland and Salem stood out above the rest of the roster. In the lowest level of the full-season portion of the system, it’s the position players who stick out. Specifically, the infield is the most exciting portion of this roster. The infield includes the top prospect on this roster, who is pictured above and who will be discussed more in depth below. They also feature Brandon Howlett on the other side of the diamond. Howlett was a 21st round pick last summer, but given his performance last year and the scouting reports that came from it he has a chance to be an absolute steal at that spot. Dustin Pedroia is also going to be there on Opening Day, but including him feels cheap. Throw in 2018 senior sign Devlin Granberg who hit well last year as well as potential mid-season call ups in Nicholas Northcut and Antoni Flores and this could be a fun and productive infield for the entire year. The top dogWe alluded to him above, and it shouldn’t be any surprise that last year’s first round pick is the headliner on this Low-A roster. Triston Casas isn’t just last year’s first round pick http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , either. There is a very legitimate chance that he will be the number one prospect in the entire farm system when we have this discussion next spring. Obviously, he has some work to do to get there and he didn’t really play at all in GCL play last year. That said, the talent is there. Some differ in opinion on the viability of his hit tool, and his ability to make consistent contact will be the biggest thing to watch on this entire Greenville roster in 2019. He’s going to hit some monster homers, and I’m already excited for those highlights, but it’s the batting average we should watch. I’m also interested to see where he plays defensively. He’s almost certainly a first baseman long term, but they could give him some time at third base this year as well.Cole BrannenKelly O’Connor; sittingstill.smugmug.comThe SleeperThere are a ton of interesting candidates here and I have gone back and forth on three of them for five minutes now, but I’m going with someone I feel like I’ll regret picking. Cole Brannen was a second round pick in 2017 and fell flat on his face in his full-season debut last year. There was absolutely nothing going with his bat in 2018 and even a demotion to Lowell couldn’t help get him going. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Michael Chavis, though, it’s not to write off former high school draftees after just one year. It’s a big adjustment period, and in hindsight the Red Sox may have been overly aggressive putting him in Greenville to start last year. Brannen has the athleticism to give himself a decent floor if he can hit at a respectable level, but that last part is easier said than done. Alex Speier did mention that Brannen has looked better since the 2018 season ended. The RestAlex Scherff headlines the pitching staff, and if all goes well he shouldn’t be at this level for too long. He is sort of in a similar situation as Bryan Mata as he came in under expectations last year and is going to get a chance to get in a groove by repeating the level in 2019. Scherff has reportedly added a cutter to his repertoire this year, and he could be one of the biggest risers in the entire system if that cutter plays up.Tyler Dearden was an above-slot high school pick in the 29th round back in 2017 http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , and he’s looked good in two seasons in short-season ball. Entering his age-20 season, he’ll get a chance in full-season ball in 2019. The power is very intriguing and he’s shown real on-base ability. His hit tool is what to watch here. The corner outfield spots in Greenville will be entirely filled with Tylers, with Esplin taking the other corner. Another high school draftee in 2017, he’s a year younger than Dearden and doesn’t have the professional track record to this point. He has a higher ceiling than his counterpart, though.Yoan Aybar was once an athletic outfielder who struggled to get it going with the bat but had potential roaming around the grass. Instead, the Red Sox took him and his live arm and converted them into a relief role. He’s still learning the job and is very raw, but he’s up in the high 90s with his fastball and his development could sneakily be one of the most interesting storylines on the entire farm.Thad Ward is sort of forgotten already, but last year’s fifth round pick has already turned 22 and while his ceiling isn’t huge he could be a relatively quick mover if his command sticks in the lower levels.Brayan Bello is young, has one season as a professional under his belt and spent most of that year in the Dominican Summer League. Starting him in Greenville this year is aggressive, but after he put up a 1.68 ERA in 13 starts last year he’ll certainly be worth watching in 2019. BALTIMORE — The New York Yankees can complete a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles in a prime-time series finale on Sunday at Camden Yards.Entering the series, the Yankees and Orioles had split their 12 meetings this season. However, New York won three straight against Baltimore this weekend, including both games of a Saturday doubleheader. The Yankees (82-47) are a season-high 35 games above .500. Meanwhile, Baltimore (37-93) is jockeying with Kansas City for the top pick in the MLB Draft. Article continues below ...“We’re just trying to do what we do best and score runs Dellin Betances Jersey ,” Yankees center fielder Aaron Hicks said. The Yankees are also getting a spark from rookie Miguel Andujar, who homered and had four RBIs in the first game Saturday. He is batting .300 and making a strong case for Rookie of the Year, not that he is thinking about personal accolades.“There are more important things right now,” Andujar said through an interpreter. “It’s very important to win games and we have a bigger goal in mind. That’s the focus right now. At the end of it all, if it happens, it happens. We are trying accomplish something bigger here than individual awards.” The Orioles, who have lost seven straight games, have traded key veterans as they begin a complete rebuild of their franchise. They’re already experiencing growing pains and have endured seven losing streaks of six games or more this season. Right-hander Luis Severino (16-6, 3.28 ERA) will start Sunday for the Yankees. After a dominant first half of the season, he is 2-4 in his last six starts, allowing seven home runs during that stretch.Severino was much better in his last outing against the Blue Jays when he allowed two runs and six hits with eight strikeouts in five innings. “I feel pretty good. Most of the game I was dominating,” Severino said after the game. “I feel good, my body is strong and my confidence is way up.”Severino is 4-1 with a 3.33 ERA in nine appearances (seven starts) against Baltimore. New York is going to need him to maintain his former solid form during the stretch run.The Yankees still trail the Red Sox in the American League East but are in the driver’s seat for one of the two wild-card berths. “We have to find the right adjustments in there to get him back on track,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Severino’s recent struggles. Dylan Bundy (7-12 Matt Holliday Jersey , 5.31) is having similar struggles for Baltimore. He has allowed 29 hits and six homers for 22 runs (21 earned) in 14 1/3 innings in his last three starts.Bundy has also struggled to keep the ball in the park, giving up 15 homers in his last eight starts, registering a whopping 9.08 ERA during that stretch. Bundy allowed seven runs and seven hits in just four innings of his last start against the Blue Jays, losing his third straight decision.“It’s tough, but we’re all going to have these stretches,” Bundy said after the game. “You just try to limit them. Right now, this one is going on for quite some time. Hopefully, in the future I can figure this out quicker and get better faster.”Bundy is 2-4 with a 6.03 ERA in eight appearances, including six starts, against the Yankees. Billie Weiss/Boston Red Sox/Getty ImagesBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora called President Donald Trump's tweets about the death toll from Hurricane Maria "disrespectful" to his native Puerto Rico."To be tweeting about 3 http://www.stlouiscardinalsteamshop.com/authentic-marcell-ozuna-jersey ,000 people ... it's actually disrespectful for my country," Cora said Thursday, according to ESPN.com."We see it that way. I know probably he doesn't feel that way. And like I said, hey man, thank you for helping us. He went down there, he did what he did."I hate talking about politics and all that, but I think this is more than politics. This is about a country that really suffered, we still ... you see the hurricanes forming now. Everybody's panicking. It's not easy. One thing's for sure, and I told (the media) before, one thing I'm proud, we're standing up on our own two feet. Like, do we need help? Yeah, we do. We know that."On Thursday morning, Trump tweeted his belief that the reported death tolls from the storm were fabricated by Democrats "to make me look as bad as possible.""3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico," hewrote. "When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000...".....This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico. If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list. Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico!"According to CNN.com'sBetsy KleinandMaegan Vazquez, the Puerto Rican governor "formally raised the death toll from Hurricane Maria to an estimated 2,975 from 64 following a study conducted by researchers at The George Washington University."George Washington University issued a statement Thursday standing by its findings: "Our results show that Hurricane Maria was a very deadly storm, one that affected the entire island but hit the poor and the elderly the hardest. We are confident that the number鈥?,975鈥攊s the most accurate and unbiased estimate of excess mortality to date." Division rivals face off in 4 game set at Chase Field"The San Diego Padres are a team that in the past you looked to get healthy against. And during the first week of the season, that was indeed the case for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Taking 2 of 3 from San Diego on the heels of their disastrous 1-3 opening series in LA,the DBacks got their season back on course during that series Jason Motte Jersey , and have gone 3-2 since then. The Padres, despite that series loss, have been playing pretty good baseball however. They come in tied with the Dodgers for first place in the NL West with an 8-5 record, despite a negative run differential of 46 RS, 48 RA. They have played two series with the Giants, and have gone 5-2 against that team, while also taking 2 of 3 from the Cardinals. Somewhat surprising, at least to me,their pitching has lead the way.MACRO MATCHUPS,NL Ranks in ParenthesisThe Diamondbacks season view of the pitching is a little misleading, as since the LA series they have allowed 4.2 R/G and have a team ERA of 4.18.While that’s much improved, they really need to push that number under 4.00 going forward. The Padres meanwhile have run up their good pitching numbers against the Giants. Their two worst games were against the DBacks April 1 & 2, allowing 10 &8 Runs. But they held the Giants to 1 runthree times, and had a team shutout against them opening day.So small sample size and schedule definitely a factor in these early numbers to be considered. On the hitting side, The DBacks are 3rd in homers hit with 22 and have a whopping 33 doubles to lead the NL, next closest is LA with 24. But they have the 3rd fewest walks with just 30. That explains the 9th ranked OBP number in chart above. In fact per Inside EdgeDiamondbacks hitters have drawn 1 walk in 107 PAs (0.9%) when leading off an inning this season -- lowest in MLB; League Avg: 8.1%.FOCUS ON PADRES. So far, the back end of their pen has been very effective at protecting leads, so you don’t want to be down to them late and depend on big comebacks. Pedro Avila, a 22 year rookie right hander out of Venezuela, will make his major league debut tonight. Here is a link to his minor league page.I wasn’t able to find a recent scouting report, but there is a decent one from 2 years ago at Baseball Prospectus. If someone has a later one, please share in the comments.Zack Godleyis coming off a much better outing his last time out, allowing just 1 run in 5 2鈦? to the Red Sox to get the win in a 15-8 DBacks victory. He did walk 3 however, so he’ll need to keep the walks, as well as his emotions in check to be successful in this game. Friday April 12, , 6:40 @ Chase FieldChris Paddock, RHP, 0-0,1.04 ERA, 11 SO, vs. Luke Weaver RHP 6.75 ERA, 7 SOPaddock was obtained by the Padres in a mid season deal for Fernando Rodney back in 2016.His fastball sits at 94 and tops out at 97. He has a great changeup to go with that, with a scout rating of 60/70.(Present/Future on 80 scale) He put up video game numbers in the low minors, and only had 7 starts in AA last year. But he had a good spring and made the Padres rotation. He had an excellent game his first start going 5 IP and giving up just 1 run to the Giants. His second start vs. the Cardinals was wobbly though, lasting just 3 2鈦? and walking 4. He only gave up 1 hit and 1 run however in a game the Padres eventually won.Luke Weaver will hope to get off to a better start in this one. He’s given up 3 runs in the first inning in his first start and 3 runs in the second inning of his last start vs. the Red Sox.He recovered in that oneto hold Boston scoreless through the next 3 innings in a game the Dbacks walked off in the bottom of the 9th on a hit by battery mate Carson Kelly. The issue for Weaver as I see it has been fastball command, and a reluctance to use his Curveball earlier in games. He’s thrown just 16 of those in his two starts. Considering how much of a focus that was for him during the off season to develop that pitch, and how well he was throwing it in spring, it’s a little mystifying. He’s been relying on his excellent changeup to get K’s as his out pitch Brett Cecil Jersey , but I think he needs to use the Curve more.Ultimately however his success or failure will rest on the FB command.Saturday April 13th5:10 @ Chase FieldMatt StrahmLHP0-2, 7.04 ERA. VS Merrill Kelly,1-1, 2.57 ERA, 12 SOAfter getting hit hard by the DBacks on April 1st, Strahm was a tough luck loser in his second start, giving up just 2 runs, 1 earned in 5 innings of work in a 4-1 loss to the Cardinals.Strahm is mostly a FB/Slider guy, and appears to have lost about 2 MPH of velocity in moving from the bullpen to the rotation.Kelly is coming off a masterful start against the Red Sox last time out, allowing 1 run in 8 innings while striking out 9. But he was snakebit by a cooled offense that produced zero runs in a bullpen game pitched by the Red Sox. Sunday April 14th 1:10 @ Chase FieldEric Lauer LHP2-1 4.76 ERA 13 SO,vs Zack Greinke1-1, 7.16 ERA22 SOLauer throws a low 90’s FB, along with a slider that is rated pretty good by scout grades (55), but hasn’t really produced great results yet. He’ll also mix in a Curve, as well as the occasional cutter and changeup. He has almost no discernible platoon split so far in his career, as the triple slash and OPS against are almost identical. Notable is the fact that Saturday’sstarter Strahm has a pretty big reverse split, much better against RHB, so it will be interesting to see what Torey Lovullo does with his lineup. I’m guessing David Peralta sits one of these two games. Greinke seems to be pushing the envelope as to just how much velocity he can lose before losing effectiveness.Location is key for him of course, and if he has great FB location he can baffle hitters with whichever of his assortment of off speed pitches is working best that day. He truly is a master at his craft. However he has struggled with FB command in the early going, and has also seemingly been struggling to get on the same page at times with his designated catcher John Ryan Murphy. Hopefully the two will be more in sync this Sunday and there is a repeat of Zack’s great performance in San Diego last week.SUMMARY AND PREDICTION:When looking at the early season schedule, the Padres were not a team that you looked at as being a tough spot in the schedule. But they are much improved. The addition of Manny Machado is the obvious big improvement. But rookie Fernando Tatis Jr. is turning heads and they are getting solid production from their starting rotation and bullpen. For their part, the Diamondbacks offense is perhaps regressing to the mean a bit. When people looked at the lineup at the start of the season, the last thing they thought was this was going to be a team near the top of the tables in slugging and extra base hits and homers. It speaks a lot to their approach and preparation that they have come out as hot as they have. However ultimately they are going to have to start taking more walks and getting on base a bit more too. And the pitching still has a ways to go to completely right the ship. The ball is jumping in major league baseball and the Dbacks are still not likely to slug themselves to a winning record over a 162 games. Series Split, 2 games a piece
We start our traditional look at the non-roster invitees to spring training for the D-backs"As well as the entire 40-man roster http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , the Arizona Diamondbacks have invited twenty other players to spring training at Salt River Fields next month. These are a mixture of up and coming prospect and crafty veterans: some will be familiar, but others, not so much. Whle you should be aware of most names on the 40-man roster [though I’m still not sure what a Robbie Scott is, or why we have one...], we’ve had a regular feature as we approach spring of going through the non-roster invitees. Forewarned is forearmed, and this is that week, starting with some of the pitchers you’ll be seeing reporting to Scottsdale in little more than a fortnight. Ryan AtkinsonOne of our independent ball finds, Atkinson went undrafted in 2015 out of the University of Cincinnati, though given a 4.82 ERA in his senior year there, that isn’t too surprising. He then gave up professional ball entirely for a bit, working in their Medical Center as a patient services manager. However, the bug was merely dormant, and a year later he signed with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League (the same league which also gave us Clay Zavada). His time there was short, striking out eight over 5.2 innings of one-hit ball before the Diamondbacks brought him back into the major-league pipeline. It was his 2017 that got Ryan back on the radar, as he had 167 strikeouts over 141.2 IP at three levels, the most K’s by any D-backs prospect for the season. That got him his first spring invite, though his follow-up season proved rather rougher. In twenty starts for Double-A Jackson, Atkinson had a 5.25 ERA, and ended the season in the bullpen. The results there were better: a 1.38 ERA over 13 innings, though if he’s to progress further he needs to get the walk-rate down. Last year, Ryan walked 58 batters and hit eight more in 109 total innings, though the K’s were still there at 123. He turns 26 in May Ryan Zimmerman Jersey , so this season could well prove pivotal as to whether he follows Zavada all the way back to the majors.Stefan CrichtonCrichton’s path to spring training was rather more conventional, if injury plagued. Drafted by the Orioles in the 23rd round of the 2013 draft, he was sent to Arizona last April for cash considerations. He had a rough go in his major-league debut with the Orioles in 2017, his ERA being above eight. Crichton fared worse still out of the Aces’ bullpen last year, with a 10.13 ERA before going on the DL on May 19 with shoulder inflammation. He was eventually released in June, but was re-signed four days later, and eventually activated off the DL at the end of September. He’ll need to prove his health first. then try to live up to Mike Hazen’s comments at the time of his acquisition:Rubby De La RosaI must confess, I’d almost forgotten about De La Rosa, given he last appeared at any level, pitching for Reno in August 2017. Rubby underwent his second Tommy John procedure on August 22nd that year (his first being back in 2011, when with the Dodgers), but was re-signed to a two-year minor league deal the following month. For 2019, that’s a heavily incentive-laden contract which gives him $750K if he makes the majors, plus up to $2.75 million in bonuses, as well as an early-season opt-out if he doesn’t make the roster. After two TJ procedures, it’s a longer shot, though even getting this invite suggests the recovery is going well enough to this point. Fun fact. He led the Diamondbacks in wins for the 2015 season, with more victories (14) than Robbie Ray and Patrick Corbin combined for (11), over their 39 starts. Seems so long ago now...Jon DuplantierGenerally regarded as the team’s top prospect going into the 2018 season, he was the organization’s Pitcher of the Year for 2017, and made the top #100 overall lists for Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus and MLB.com. There was some thought he might make his major-league debut last year. but those hopes likely ended when Jon missed close to two months with right bicep tendinitis http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , extending an unfortunate history of arm issues (partly explaining why he dropped to the third round of the 2016 draft). That and a balky hamstring limited him to just 74 innings in 2018, though Duplantier got some of those back in the Arizona Fall League, where he threw 21.2 frames, with 32 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.32. Jack watched the prospect there, and came away “very impressed,” though even at that point doubted Duplantier would be in the 2019 Opening Day rotation. The subsequent arrival of Merrill Kelly and Luke Weaver have likely pushed Jon down the depth chart, and the rise of Jazz Chisholm has knocked him of the #1 prospect throne. But if he stays fit, Duplantier should likely receive consideration when the team needs a replacement starter, as they almost inevitably will. As John Sickels wrote in August, “little question about his talent but durability still a significant question.” HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros entered last season looking to defend the title after winning their first World Series in 2017.Being eliminated in the ALCS by the Boston Red Sox has done nothing to shake their confidence as the 2019 season arrives.“I don’t think the feeling’s any different,” manager AJ Hinch said. “I think the way people talk about things is a little different … there’s an expectation of winning here and there should be. We have a good team.”The Astros won their second AL West crown last year after setting a franchise record with 103 wins. They swept the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS before injuries to stars Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa contributed to a 4-1 series loss to the Red Sox in the next round.Although the expectations remain high for a team that returns the majority of its roster from last season, Hinch will be careful to make sure these Astros don’t look too far ahead.“I’m going to be the guy behind the scenes who is keeping our feet on the ground and making sure that we win series, we win homestands, we win months,” Hinch said. “It’s a boring, methodical way of describing it but that’s what’s needed for 162 (games) and that’s why we’ve had four winning seasons.”Altuve and Correa are healthy now and up-and-coming star third baseman Alex Bregman is poised to take another step after a breakout 2018 season. The rotation is in good shape, too, with Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole back to lead the pitching staff.“I have as much confidence as I ever have in this team,” Hinch said. “I love this team. I love the makeup. I love the edge that we have, the versatility that we have, the depth that our minor league system has. There’s a lot of good going on here.”The Astros open the season at Tampa Bay on March 28 with Verlander on the mound against 2018 Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.WHO’S THE DH?The Astros didn’t re-sign Evan Gattis, who served as the team’s designated hitter last season Bryce Harper Jersey , leaving that spot open entering this year. But don’t expect the team to fill the role with just one player. General manager Jeff Luhnow said Tyler White will get some at-bats but the team plans to use the DH spot to give their stars a break from playing in the field from time to time. He noted that Altuve, Correa, Bregman, first baseman Yuli Gurriel and center fielder George Springer could all see time at designated hitter this season.“It’s nice to have that flexibility and not be locked into having one guy that you have to play every day because he’s the DH,” Luhnow said. “We certainly want to utilize that spot and maximize both the rest it provides for the position players as well as the output because we want to get some home runs out of that spot.”NEW FACESWhile much of Houston’s team is unchanged from a year ago, the Astros did add a few new players this offseason. Their top acquisition came with the signing of Michael Brantley to a two-year, $32 million deal. The 31-year-old gives the Astros an upgrade in left field and adds a left-handed bat to a predominantly right-handed lineup. The career .295 hitter had spent his entire 10-year career with the Indians. After letting left-hander Dallas Keuchel go in free agency, the Astros filled his role in the rotation by adding fellow lefty Wade Miley on a one-year, $4.5 million contract. Miley was 5-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 16 starts and 80 2/3 innings for the Milwaukee Brewers last year.Houston also signed a new catcher in Robinson Chirinos after Brian McCann signed with the Braves. Chirinos spent the last six seasons with the Rangers, where he hit .222 with 18 homers and 65 RBIs.They also traded for utility player Aledmys Diaz after longtime super-utility man Marwin Gonzalez signed with the Twins. Diaz, who was an All-Star in 2016, batted .263 with 18 home runs and 55 RBIs for the Blue Jays last season.ROOKIES TO WATCHThis team won’t have many rookies on its opening day roster, but a pair of young pitchers will be important in the bullpen. Josh James and Framber Valdez both made their MLB debuts late last season, but will still be considered rookies this season because of their limited work last year. Valdez competed for the fifth spot in the rotation this spring, but was beat out by veteran Brad Peacock. The left-handed Valdez was 4-1 with a 2.19 ERA in eight games with five starts last season. James performed so well after a September call-up that he made Houston’s playoff roster. The 25-year-old, whose fastball routinely hits 102 mph, missed out on a chance to compete for a spot in the rotation because of a quadriceps injury this spring. But he’s healthy now and should contribute out of the bullpen early, but could start at some point this season.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Carlos Carrasco dusted himself off John Kruk Jersey , climbed back on the mound and smiled after dealing with another scary moment against the Minnesota Twins.Carrasco struck out 11 and withstood taking a liner off his glove in pitching the Cleveland Indians past the Twins 8-1 on Tuesday night.“I’m glad nothing happened,” he said. “Everything’s fine. It’s part of the game.”Francisco Lindor matched a career high with four hits while Jose Ramirez drove in three runs for the AL Central leaders.Carrasco (16-7) allowed four hits in 7 2/3 innings. He is tied for second in the majors in wins, one behind Luis Severino of the Yankees. In the fifth, Carrasco was hit in the glove by Ehire Adrianza’s liner. The force of the blow knocked Carrasco to the ground, but the right-hander immediately got to his feet. The ball rolled toward second baseman Jason Kipnis, who had no play at first.Indians manager Terry Francona and a team trainer went to the mound, and Carrasco signaled he wasn’t injured. The pitcher smiled as the trainer wiped dirt off his left hand and wrist with a towel.Francona admitted he was concerned when he headed on the field.“It didn’t sound good,” he said. “I was so relieved when it was his glove. They had a roster capable of winning a title and afarm systemthat was flush with budding stars. Now, the franchise has lost in the playoffs in six consecutive seasons, and, more importantly, Los Angeles is facing a murky future.Manny Machado is headed for free agency, and the Dodgers will assuredly have strong competition from the New York Yankees for his signature.Kershaw canopt outof his contract, and, while he seems a surer bet to return, his days as the best starter in MLB may be over. His disappointing playoffs capped off a year in which he had hishighest FIP(3.19) and hisfewest strikeouts(8.6 per nine innings) since his rookie season, per Baseball Reference.Likewise, Kenley Jansen had theworst FIPof his career (4.03) in the regular season and is owed$56 millionover the next three years.Jansen was dominant in the playoffs, though, which will ease some of the pressure he would've otherwise faced. And nobody will receive more criticism in the offseason than Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.Chad Jennings chadjennings22Loud boos when Dave Roberts name was just announced pregame. The Dodgers faithful seem to have lost some faith.Abbey Mastracco AbbeyMastraccoI dont know what to make of Dave Roberts right now. It seems like he managed this series like it was the regular season. Meanwhile, Alex Cora managed very aggressively. The Dodgers aren't in dire straits. Corey Seager will be back healthy in 2019.Julio Urias and Walker Buehler are 22 and 24, respectively.Justin Turner is the only key position player over the age of 30. And the franchise can continue to maintain one of MLB's highest payrolls. But there are tough questions Los Angeles will have to answer.Losing Kershaw or having him continue to slowly decline will have an impact on the rotation Mitch Williams Jersey , and the same goes for Jansen and the bullpen if he doesn't return to his usual self in 2019.Losing Machado would hurt the lineup. The Dodgers may not be able to count upon Max Muncy to slug .582 again either. Opposing teams seemed to figure out Chris Taylor a little more after his breakout in 2017.For a team that has been so singularly focused on winning the World Series, next season could represent a step backward.Red Sox Clear World Series Favorites in 2019 After Legendary SeasonWinning 108 games is probably out of the question in 2019, but the Red Sox have everything required to repeat as champions. The Price opt-out decision will linger throughout the offseason. Beyond that, the spring should be pretty much drama-free for the Red Sox.Craig Kimbrel is Boston's most notable free agent, and the team may be comfortable letting him go. Finding another closer would be better than having to pay Kimbrel between$15 million and $20 million, which is the going rate for proven free-agent closers.Pearce, Joe Kelly and Nathan Eovaldi all played a role in Boston's title triumph, but none of the three is irreplaceable.More than anything, the Red Sox's best players are in the primes of their careers.Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers are all 26 or younger. Betts is likely the American League MVP, and teammate J.D. Martinez should finish in the top five.Chris Sale delivered another Cy Young-caliber season, while Price and Rick Porcello have settled into their roles as the secondary aces to the left-hander.Manager Alex Cora also handled the postseason like an experienced vet in his first year. The Red Sox followed up their last World Series win by finishing with 71 victories in 2014. This team is different. Whereas that championship was a bit of an outlier, Boston had been building to this for years. What's Next? The Red Sox will open their spring training schedule Feb. 22 against the Northeastern Huskies. The Dodgers will take on the Chicago White Sox on Feb. 23. Boston and Los Angeles will play one another in the 2019 regular season, as the Red Sox host a three-game series July 12-14.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — It turns out there is way more to the Milwaukee Brewers than just Christian Yelich. The rest of this Brew Crew can play Yunel Escobar Jersey , too. Especially those guys in that loaded bullpen.Jhoulys Chacin pitched five sparkling innings on short rest, Mike Moustakas contributed two more big hits and the Brewers blanked the Colorado Rockies 4-0 Friday to take a 2-0 lead in their NL Division Series. While the sweet-swinging Yelich had a quiet day by his lofty standards, the NL Central champions showed off their supporting cast on the way to their 10th straight win going back to an impressive finish to the regular season. Erik Kratz had two hits and two RBIs, and Milwaukee’s bullpen closed the door after Chacin delivered in his playoff debut.“It’s been the story of the last six weeks for us for sure, really since the trade deadline, is we’ve become a team with a lot of depth, and that’s how we’re going to have to win,” manager Craig Counsell said. “They’re making an effort to be very, very cautious with Yelich. It’s pretty clear. So guys behind him are going to have opportunities.”Game 3 is Sunday at Coors Field. Another win, and Milwaukee is into the NL Championship Series for the first time since its previous postseason appearance in 2011.“The only thing that changes is that we hit first,” Moustakas said. “Other than that, it’s still baseball. It’ll be a little bit of a hostile environment.”The Rockies Martin Maldonado Jersey , who have played in four different cities since Sunday, are hoping a return to more familiar surroundings will help jump-start their dormant lineup.“We’re going home, where we feel really good hitting,” shortstop Trevor Story said. “Hopefully we can get it turned around there.”Nolan Arenado had two of Colorado’s six hits — just two more than the franchise playoff low set in Thursday’s 3-2, 10-inning loss in Game 1. The wild-card Rockies have scored six times in their last four games, and their potent lineup is showing signs of frustration.Chris Iannetta snapped his bat in half over his right leg after he struck out with a runner on third, no one out and Colorado down 1-0 in the seventh. Arenado threw down his bat and helmet after he struck out swinging in the fifth. Carlos Gonzalez leaned over with his hands on his knees after he lined out in the eighth.“They’ve got some quality arms. They’ve got good stuff,” manager Bud Black said. “But with that said, it is a little surprising that we’re not generating some runs.”The Rockies had just one hit through eight innings in the series opener before rallying for two runs in the ninth against Jeremy Jeffress. But the All-Star was back to his normal self in Game 2, working around a single in the eighth and ninth for his first save in his third career playoff game. The excitable right-hander punctuated the win with a big fist pump after retiring David Dahl for the final out.“It’s fun,” Jeffress said with 4-year-old daughter Jurnee sitting in his lap. “I’m enjoying every single moment, and that shows.”Jeffress shared some Gatorade with Jurnee while she waited patiently for him to finish up.“Every time I leave that bullpen http://www.angelsfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-cozart-jersey , I say it’s for her,” the 31-year-old Jeffress said. “I mean, to have her watch and understand — she understands. She does fist pumps just like I do. She understands, and to have her here enjoying this moment with me, it’s great.”Backed by a sellout crowd of 44,547 waving yellow towels and standing for every big moment, Chacin set up Milwaukee’s bullpen by escaping a pair of early jams. The veteran right-hander, who helped pitch the Brewers past the Chicago Cubs in the division tiebreaker Monday at Wrigley Field, allowed three hits and walked three.Tyler Anderson matched Chacin zero for zero before Moustakas and Hernan Perez hit consecutive one-out doubles in the fourth. The Brewers had a chance for more, but Perez was caught off third in a baserunning blunder and Kratz flied out to end the inning.Moustakas, who got the game-ending hit in the series opener, came up with the bases loaded in the eighth and singled in Yelich to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead. Kratz tacked on a two-run single with two out.“That’s just what we’ve done all year. We pick each other up Darin Erstad Jersey , and it’s huge,” Kratz said. The 30-year-old Moustakas helped Kansas City win the World Series in 2015 and was acquired by Milwaukee in a trade in late July. Back in the playoffs for the first time since that run with the Royals, the veteran third baseman is working on another memorable October.“His experience, it’s important,” Counsell said. “It really is.”YELICH’S DAYYelich went 0 for 2 and walked twice. After almost winning the Triple Crown this year, he homered, singled, walked twice and scored two runs Thursday in his first postseason game.UP NEXTColorado right-hander German Marquez and Milwaukee left-hander Wade Miley make their playoff debut in Game 3. Marquez last pitched on Monday in the NL West tiebreaker game at Los Angeles, allowing four runs, two earned, in 4 2/3 innings in the Rockies’ 5-2 loss to the Dodgers. Miley signed with the Brewers in the offseason. The lefty went 3-0 with a 3.52 ERA in five September starts, but lasted just three innings in his most recent outing last Saturday against Detroit. The Cleveland Indiansannounced the acquisition of outfielder Leonys Martinand starting pitcher Kyle Dowdy from the Detroit Tigers ahead of Tuesday's MLB non-waiver trade deadline in exchange for shortstop prospect Willi Castro.Detroit signed Martin as a free agent in December. He posted a .251/.321/.409 slash line with nine home runs and seven stolen bases across 78 appearances. He's been on the disabled list twice this season because of hamstring issues. His name was already in the rumor mill when he returned from his most recent DL stint earlier this month http://www.angelsfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-cozart-jersey , and he explained his mindset about a potential trade."I've been through this," Martintold reportersJuly 20. "It's something you've got to deal with. I don't have control. All I can do is show up and be ready to play. Only God knows what the plan is. I like Detroit. I'd like to be here. But it's not up to me. We'll see what happens."He could receive an opportunity to take over as the Tribe's everyday center fielder. That said, it might end up being a platoon with Rajai Davis unless he goes on an offensive tear down the stretch.Dowdy, 25, owns a 3.77 career ERA in 72 games across four levels of the minor leagues. He'll be organizational pitching depth for Cleveland.Meanwhile, the struggling Tigers receive a prospect in Castro as they start looking toward the future in light of their 45-62 record. The 21-year-old Puerto Rico native has compiled a lackluster .653 OPS during his first season in Double-A. He finished 2017 with a .761 OPS, 19 steals and 11 homers across 123 games in the Carolina League (Single-A Advanced).MLB.comranked him as the Indians' eighth-best prospect before the trade.Ultimately, the deal makes sense for both AL Central rivals. The Indians needed outfield help, and Francisco Lindor is locked in as their starting shortstop for the foreseeable future, blocking Castro's eventual path to the big leagues. On the flip side, the Tigers have faded from the playoff race and got another talented player for their system.
The dream http://www.giantsfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , the longshot dream of the Tampa Bay Rays, probably ended Friday night at the Trop. The Rays came into the three-game series with the Oakland A’s needing what amounted to a miracle — starting with a sweep — to even make a legitimate run at a postseason berth. But that was all shattered when Khris Davis hit his major league-leading 42nd home run of the season in the 10th inning to give the A’s a 2-1 victory. The win reduced Oakland’s magic number for clinching the second wild card to seven, and upped their lead over the Rays to nine games. It also kept the A’s a game and a half behind the Yankees for home-field in the wild-card game — and moved them to within 2 1/2 games of first-place Houston in the American League West.Article continues below ...The Astros lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Houston on Friday night. The A’s, winning the first game of the series between the league’s two major surprise teams, improved to a MLB-best 29-12 in one-run games with their second win in five games against the Rays this season.“Khris gets to be the hero tonight,” said A’s starter Edwin Jackson. “That’s fun baseball we’re playing right now, every day it’s a different hero, a different person coming through in clutch situations.”Saturday, both teams will start “openers” in bullpen games Mark Melancon Jersey , Oakland’s Liam Hendriks going against Ryne Stanek — the game being billed as the first-ever matchup of “openers.”Oakland manager Bob Melvin said either Frankie Montas or Chris Bassitt will follow Hendriks, with Yonny Chirinos following Stanek for the Rays. The Rays come in 26-19 when using an “opener,” their ERA since manager Kevin Cash started using one at 3.22 — a league-best 3.48 in the first inning.“It’s just trying to take advantage of what you have, and they’ve done a good job of that,” said Melvin. “If the first inning was a problem, you bring a reliever in who’s a little more used to pitching one inning and go from there.“Other teams have guys coming to third base and they’re whining about how they hate the opener. In my mind, ‘Oh, that’s a bummer. We love it and you hate it.’ So, we’ll get a little extra perspective on that (tonight) Deion Sanders Jersey ,” said Tampa Bay’s Matt Duffy. The A’s announced Trevor Cahill, originally scheduled to start Saturday, received a trigger point injection in his upper back and will miss at least his next start. The hope had been for him to start twice on the next homestand — he has a 1.49 ERA at home and 7.02 on the road — but that won’t happen now.Duffy returned to the Rays lineup after missing three games with a sore back.“I don’t think the pain is completely out of there, but he wants to be in there,” Cash said. The Rays came out with promotional handbills touting ace Blake Snell for the Cy Young Award — called, “Attack of the Cy Zilla!” It contains a quote from Boston manager Alex Cora saying Snell has “been great against everybody.” Snell’s nickname is “Snellzilla.” LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nathan Eovaldi loved what he started in Boston — emphasis on started.“There were a lot of teams that reached out, wanted me to be a closer,” he said. “I view myself as a starter, and that’s something I’ve always done my entire career. And I enjoy doing that. So if I had that choice Alen Hanson Jersey , I still wanted to be a starter.”After shifting to the bullpen for three World Series relief appearances, including an epic 97-pitch outing in an 18-inning loss , Eovaldi decided last week to stay with the Red Sox for a $68 million, four-year contract .“I can’t wait to see him again with us. He’s going to be a huge part of this rotation,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Monday during a winter meetings news conference. “He’s a workaholic.”Eovaldi averaged nearly 98 mph with his fastball during the regular season but reached 100 mph six times in the first two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, not needing to hold back. That velocity intrigued teams as he became a free agent. Before October, Eovaldi’s career was most notable for a pair of Tommy John surgeries. Acquired from Tampa Bay in July , the 28-year-old right-hander beat the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the Division Series, then defeated Houston in the third game of the League Championship Series and got four outs as a bridge to closer Craig Kimbrel in the Game 5 finale.Transformed to a setup man Edgar Martinez Jersey , Eovaldi twice pitched perfect eighth innings as Boston took a 2-0 World Series lead against the Dodgers. He entered Game 3 at the start of the 12th inning, Boston’s ninth pitcher of the game. Ace Chris Sale and Drew Pomeranz were the only remaining arms available.Eovaldi kept going, allowing Yasiel Puig’s tying single in the 13th and Max Muncy’s leading home run in the 18th, which gave the Dodgers a 3-2 win. Eovaldi’s effort became an emotional rallying point for the Red Sox, who won the next two nights for their fourth title in 15 seasons.“The conversations in between innings, they were cool,” Cora said. “I remember the last one, when I asked him: How are you feeling? He said, ‘Let me finish it.’ He said it with a lot of conviction. I knew he was good.”Cora also remembered Eovaldi’s arrival at the Dodger Stadium breakfast room the next day.“He said he was ready for it that night — not that I was going to use him Ryon Healy Jersey , of course. I’m not that stupid,” Cora said.Boston’s projected rotation includes Sale, David Price, Rick Porcello, Eovaldi and Eduardo Rodriguez. Sale and Porcello can become free agents after next season.“It’s going to be a juggling act over the next several of years,” Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said. “We know we’re not going to be able to sign everybody, but the more stability that’s out there, the better off we are.”
NEW YORK (AP) — Players’ union head Tony Clark took the extraordinary step of saying baseball fans should question whether it makes sense to purchase tickets for some teams http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , responding to Commissioner Rob Manfred’s assertion that free-agent players have failed to adjust their economic demands in a market upended by analytics.Top free agents Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel remain unsigned with spring training under way, creating tension during negotiations on management’s proposals for a pitch clock and new limitations on relief pitchers. The union responded with a wider list of plans that include economic initiatives such as expanding the designated hitter to the National League and altering the amateur draft to make rebuilding less appealing.“Markets change,” Manfred said Sunday. “We’ve had a lot of change in the game. People think about players differently. They analyze players differently. They negotiate differently.”Clark led negotiations in 2016 for a five-year labor deal. Players have increasingly been outspoken about their unhappiness during a second straight slow free-agent market, one that has seen many veterans take significant pay cuts and others remain without deals.“Players’ eyes don’t deceive them, nor do fans’,” Clark said in a statement Monday. “As players report to spring training and see respected veterans and valued teammates on the sidelines, they are rightfully frustrated by a two-year attack on free agency. Players commit to compete every pitch of every at-bat, and every inning of every game. Yet we’re operating in an environment in which an increasing number of clubs appear to be making little effort to improve their rosters, compete for a championship or justify the price of a ticket.”Average attendance has dropped for three straight seasons and last year fell below 30,000 per game for the first time since 2003.Players rebuffed management’s proposal for a pitch clock ahead of the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Management made the unilateral decision to experiment with a pitch clock during spring training. Manfred has said he is reticent to change regular-season playing rules unless players agree.“Players have made a sincere attempt to engage with clubs on their proposals to improve pace of play and enhance the game’s appeal to fans,” Clark said. “At the same time, we have presented wide-ranging ideas that value substance over seconds and ensure the best players are on the field every day. We believe these substantive changes are imperative now — not in 2022 or 2025, but in 2019.”Players have become increasingly outspoken about the slow pace of agreements and have mentioned the possibility of a work stoppage in 2022.“Everybody sees it. It’s obviously not good for baseball,” said Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, a two-time AL MVP who can become a free agent after the 2020 season.“You got two of the top guys not signed yet. With teams saying they want to rebuild, why not start with one of the top guys? Manny, Bryce, look at the pitchers out there. It’s pretty incredible. It’s disappointing for the players. It’s good they’re standing up for themselves.”The union is concerned that too many teams are rebuilding, trying to emulate the Houston Astros. Houston lost 106 to 111 games in three straight years from 2011-13, earned three straight No. 1 draft picks and won its first World Series title in 2017.“This narrative that our teams aren’t trying is just not supported by the facts,” Manfred said. “Our teams are trying. Every single one of them wants to win. It may look a little different to outsiders because the game has changed, the way that people think about the game Chad Pinder Jersey , the way that people think about putting a winning team together has changed, but that doesn’t mean they’re not trying.”Chicago Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts defended his team’s decision not to spend money on this offseason’s most illustrious free agents.“That’s a pretty easy question to answer. We don’t have any more,” he said. “The fact is that we’ve been in the top five in spending, in baseball spending, for the last five or six years. We’re in the top couple last year. We’ve put our money back on the field. Unfortunately, you just can’t have a high-profile free agent every single year. And part of that is obviously is how much it costs, whatever, $25 million, $30 million it’s going to cost, plus it’s a 10-year commitment. … As much as I would love to have a great, new, exciting player every single season, it just can’t happen every year.”Chicago is projected to exceed the $206 million luxury tax threshold along with the World Series champion Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.More players are considering long-term contracts with their current teams rather than going on the market when they can. Oakland’s Khris Davis, the big league home run champion, is among them. He can be a free agent after this year’s World Series.“It’s not a good thing to be a free agent right now,” he said. MIAMI — The second-place Philadelphia Phillies, who lost a chance on Monday to gain a game on the division-leading Atlanta Braves, will take another shot on Tuesday. The Phillies, who play in the National League East, lost 3-1 to the last-place Miami Marlins on Monday. The Braves lost 8-2 to the Boston Red Sox, which meant that Atlanta’s lead in the division remains at four games. On Tuesday, the Phillies will try to snap a three-game losing streak, turning to Jake Arrieta (9-9, 3.54 ERA).Article continues below ...Arrieta http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , who signed a three-year, $75 million contract in March, won a National League Cy Young Award in 2015 and a World Series with the Chicago Cubs in 2016. He was signed to give the Phillies quality pitching as well as veteran leadership.Lately, though, Arrieta has struggled, going 0-3 with a 6.30 ERA in his past four starts. He has allowed eight earned runs in his past nine innings, including four homers. He hasn’t been that great against the lowly Marlins this season, either, going 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in three starts.Arrieta, 32, will be matched against 25-year-old rookie right-hander Trevor Richards, who doesn’t throw particularly hard but has struck out 103 batters in 101 1/3 innings, mostly because of his effective changeup.Overall this season, Richards is 3-7 with a 4.26 ERA. But in his past seven starts, he has a 3.49 ERA.On paper, Arrieta should get the better of Richards, especially since Miami’s lineup is full of inexperienced players. For example, the outfielders employed by Miami on Monday were rookie Austin Dean in left, rookie Lewis Brinson in center and right fielder Rafael Ortega, who has just 90 games of major-league experience.Brinson, hitting just .196 this year, may be starting to turn a corner. He has five hits in his past three games and went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI on Monday.“It feels good,” said Brinson, who was sidelined by injuries this year and also spent 14 games in the minors after a brutal batting slump. “I’ve had time to think about some stuff. I’ve had time to work on some stuff. It’s nice to contribute.”Brinson also said he feels more “relaxed” now at the plate.“I got my mind right Blake Treinen Jersey ,” said Brinson, 24, who flashed his potential last year when he hit .331 with 13 homers and a .962 OPS in 76 Triple-A games for the Milwaukee Brewers organization. “I want to have a good September and finish the season strong.”The Phillies, meanwhile, need to have a strong September or they will be finished in the drive for the postseason.Other than an upper-deck, solo home run by Asdrubal Cabrera, the Phillies were quiet on Monday, failing to get to Marlins starter Jose Urena or the two relievers who followed him.To make matters worse, Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco, who had carried the offense for the better part of six weeks this summer, sat out Monday’s game with a sore right wrist that has bothered him for about one week. He has missed four of the past six games since he got jammed on an inside pitch.“I was playing with the injury, but the past couple of days it has bothered me a lot,” Franco told philly.com. “It’s tough because I try to do everything I can to help the team. I’m trying to be available as soon as I can.”Franco, who is just 2-for-25 since Aug. 24, said it’s unlikely he will play Tuesday. The Phillies need the performance that Franco showed before this slump, when he hit .323 with 12 homers in 53 games.Cabrera replaced Franco at third base on Monday, and left fielder Rhys Hoskins, who leads the Phillies with 27 homers and 83 RBIs, was also given a rare start off. He flew out as a pinch-hitter and will be in Tuesday’s lineup, according to Phillies manager Gabe Kapler.Hoskins had started every game since June 9.“We’ve really ridden Rhys hard,” Kapler told mlb.com. “We may not give him another off day for the rest of the season.”

For those unfamiliar, the run line in baseball is similar to the spread in football. The run line in an MLB game is 1.5 runs. A gambler will place a wager on the favored team to win by two runs or more, or the underdog team to lose by one run or to win the game. The strategy for this spring training system is straightforward: bet non-playoff road teams against a postseason participant from the previous season. This system works for a few reasons. For starters, home-field advantage is often overrated in the regular season and doesn鈥檛 exist in spring training as these exhibition games are not played in home stadiums.Plus http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , by betting non-playoff teams you are almost always (96% of game matches) taking the underdog on the run line. Exhibition games are random, which means underdogs have a greater chance to win. Some will call you a degenerate for wagering on spring training games, but the results for this system have been consistent. Since 2013, bettors following this strategy have gone 370-171 (68.4%) on the run line and have been profitable every year since we began tracking spring training games. So it’s nice.”Although it has been awhile since Atlanta contended for the postseason, this year’s team shows no signs of fading. Kevin Gausman and four relievers combined on a two-hitter Sunday and the Braves won despite an ongoing offensive slump, 4-0.Atlanta headed home after a 5-2 trip with a three-game lead over second-place Philadelphia, which notched a simultaneous win at Toronto. The Braves earned a split at Miami even though they scored just seven earned runs in the four-game series.“It’s nice to work it out that way,” catcher Tyler Flowers said. “If you’re going to struggle offensively, you hope that’s the time your pitching is on top of everything. While reports suggest that Ron Rivera is safe after this disappointing year, there is no amount of sources that will convince me that he has the opportunity to be complacent. The Panthers were bad this year, in spite of all of their potential. They were bad because they had noticeable talent gaps at crucial positions. We can dredge up some holiday banality to say that every player and every position on the team is important, but we can’t pretend that some guys aren’t more important than others. The positions that get paid more than the others —offensive tackle, defensive end, and, yes, quarterback— were the positions that let the Panthers down this year. Some of that was injury. OK, a lot of that was injury. But some of it was stick-in-the-mud coaching and some of it was management that failed to account for the passage of time when evaluating veterans who are closer to filing for social security than they are to registering for the draft.Rivera was loyal to a fault this year. It cost him a few games. Cam Newton was not capable of playing football at a high level during much of the Panthers losing streak. The time it took to decide to shut him down might not have cost the Panthers any games, but it didn’t put them in a better position to win them, either. This off season is an opportunity for the Panthers to more honestly evaluate their chances, their recent decisions Ryan Kalil Jersey 2019 , and how to outlive their own faults. A new owner bought a playoff team and didn’t fire the coaching staff after they turned in a losing season. David Tepper is a rare gift to the career of Rivera. His patience may be a gift to the Panthers, fans and all.Panthers were the top defense against the run on third and fourth down last season per PFF Pro Football Focus revealed their top defenses against the run in third or fourth and short situations, and the Carolina Panthers ranked at the top of the list. This information probably isn’t surprising news to Panthers fans, we do have the best middle linebacker and one of the best defensive tackles in the league after all in Luke Kuechly and Kawann Short, but it is still nice to get some statistical validation to be able to quantify just how good they were last year. The above numbers mean 48% of the time when another team attempted to run for a first down on third or fourth and two or less, we stopped them. These are the kinds of numbers that make head coaches like Ron Rivera super proud, and fortunately for us, only the most forward thinking coaches and coordinators in the league would try and use this information to do something else. Jonathan DeLong has spent the offseason using math to debunk all sorts of closely held NFL beliefs, and the information surrounding this directly validates that information.Hey, maybe some day the game will change, for now though... being really good at this metric is extremely good for us in Carolina, so keep running at us opposing teams!
On Friday Youth Garett Bolles Jersey , the window for NFL teams to exercise contract options opened. For the Denver Broncos, they will have until March 13, 2019 to decide whether or not they wish to retain the services for four veteran players this season. Those players are cornerback Chris Harris Jr. ($7.9M salary), inside linebacker Brandon Marshall ($7M), wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders ($10.25M) and defensive lineman Derek Wolfe’s ($8.55M). Joel Corry of CBS Sports broke down how each contract option would play out for the Broncos earlier this week. The only player absolutely safe on this list would be Harris and the rest will be part of some business decisions the Broncos will have to make leading up to the start of the free agency period. If they choose to not to pick up any of these options, then those players will be released and the Broncos would be free and clear from those hefty veteran salaries. They could free up over $23M in salary cap by not picking up the options of all three of the other veterans in Marshall, Sanders, and Wolfe. That would certainly raise eyebrows around the NFL. More than likely at least one of these players will be moving on in mid-March. Your guess is as good as mine as to which.Horse TracksNFL News After an ugly loss to the now 3-10 San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos come home to host the rather dangerous Cleveland Browns in Week 15. Denver still has a shot to make the playoffs, but would need to get back to winning for that to happen. Fans are predictably disgusted by last week’s loss. In fact Youth Phillip Lindsay Jersey , we’re collectively predicting a 27-24 loss for the Broncos this week. This graphic probably says a lot more about us fans than this Broncos team as patience has all but run out in Broncos Country with this coaching staff and even the great John Elway himself. Whether the Broncos win or loss this week matters less than how Elway intends to get this franchise back onto a competitive footing in 2019 and beyond. In any case, back to predictions. Here is how we saw things at an individual level.Broncos 24, Browns 13Every part of my being wants to rage against my team and predict another ugly loss this week. The fact is, this team tends to win and lose games they shouldn’t. It’s a maddening tendency that keeps us all off balance never knowing what to expect. Well, I expect a loss, therefore I’m predicting a win. Case Keenum wakes up from his inaccurate ways and slings the ball around well enough to score 24 points and secure a home victory. And yes, I’ll be the only one today thinking the Broncos come out with a home win. - Tim LynchBrowns 34, Broncos 24Both secondaries are suffering, but only one team has the QB to take advantage of it. Mayfield’s playing like a top 5 QB in the NFL since Jackson was fired, & Keenum just can’t compare. Add to that the Browns’ more complete selection of offensive weapons and the Broncos’ inability or unwillingness to attack the middle of the field & it’s a recipe for trouble. If the Broncos are to win http://www.broncoscheapauthenticstore.com/ronald-leary-jersey-cheap , Von Miller & Bradley Chubb must give Baker Mayfield the worst day of his professional career (if their coach will stay out of their way). The only way to keep him from tearing up our secondary is to hit him before he can get the ball out, and that won’t be easy. On offense, the Broncos absolutely must figure out how to scheme to beat stacked boxes designed to shut Phillip Lindsay down. Whether that’s using him differently, blocking for him differently, or getting another offensive weapon to emerge, Bill Musgrave and company absolutely must give the Browns something new and unexpected to deal with or it’ll be a bleak day for the offense. - Taylor KotheBrowns 38, Broncos 33Some of the most historic moments in Denver’s franchise history have come against the Browns — The Drive and The Fumble. The Broncos haven’t lost to Cleveland since 1990. In the all-time regular-season series between these two teams, Denver is 20-5. Joseph has a knack for making (horrible) history as the head coach, and that continues on Saturday. Joseph becomes the first Broncos head coach to lose to Cleveland since Dan Reeves. And the Browns do it by the same score as The Fumble. - Ian St. ClairBrowns 24, Broncos 20The Broncos have been tough as nails at home. They held the Chiefs and Rams to mortal numbers and they beat the Steelers and Seahawks. This team seems to really clamp down on teams at home Cheap Von Miller Jersey , even in defeats. And there’s the operative phrase, “even in defeat” which unfortunately, this will be. Nick Mullens embarrasses us, so what will Baker “without Hue” Mayfield do to us? We don’t have Chris Harris Jr to lock down anybody. We don’t even have Yiadom. Think about that for a second... the player that can’t beat out Yiadom is going to play for us back there. I think Von will semi-wreck the game as will Chubb, especially to give VJ a big middle finger, but it just won’t be enough. Baker Mayfield is their John Elway, and Case Keenum is our Bernie Kosar. “We are NOT the Browns!” Broncos fans will exclaim. You’re right, we aren’t, and that’s no longer a badge of honor! - Pete Baron
OAKLAND http://www.redsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-harvey-jersey , Calif. (AP) — Yankees slugger Aaron Judge took his first swings off a tee since breaking his right wrist July 26, a significant early step in what he hopes is a return to the field for New York in a couple of weeks.Judge, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, took 25 dry swings Monday in Oakland’s center-field cage before taking another 25 off the tee at what he called 100 percent effort. He said he felt good enough in recent days and without pain that the decision was made he would begin hitting again.“Just moving in the right direction. Definitely a big step,” Judge said, sitting in the Oakland Coliseum dugout. “I’m kind of on track with what we kind of wanted to accomplish, so I’m excited about the progress we’re making so far. It feels good. So I’ve just got to keep moving forward Scott Schebler Jersey , keep having good days and just keep kind of building off that. Hopefully ramp it up here in the next couple days and be back out there soon.”The next step for Judge is expected to be some more cage swings off the tee, then hitting soft toss and batting practice before live BP as soon as this weekend. With the minor league schedule complete, manager Aaron Boone said the Yankees will “get creative” in how to get Judge the at-bats he needs — perhaps with a combination of simulated games and some work at the club’s Tampa, Florida, complex. Boone was encouraged by Judge experiencing no discomfort and planned to discuss different scenarios with general manager Brian Cashman.“We definitely feel like he’s starting to build some momentum. For him to get to swing and hit off the tee and it go really well is obviously a great sign,” Boone said before the afternoon opener of a three-game series against the Athletics. “I know he’s pleased with it and just starting to build momentum toward getting back, so today was a very good day of progress.”Boone doesn’t want to guess when Judge might be back in the Yankees’ lineup Scooter Gennett Jersey , saying it all will be based on how the right fielder responds after each step. And when Judge is ready, he will likely be back in right field as well as taking some games in the designated hitter spot.Judge was batting .285 with 26 homers, 20 doubles and 61 RBIs in 99 games before the injury, which happened when he was hit by a fastball from Kansas City’s Jakob Junis.“He’s excited about where he’s at,” Boone said. “Once we get through this weekend, if he continues to graduate then we start thinking about a possible timeline about maybe getting back. … I envision him once he’s able to be back that he’s a full-bore Aaron Judge player.”Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius, sidelined with a bruised left heel he hurt Aug. 19 in a collision with Toronto’s Kendrys Morales beating out an infield single George Foster Jersey , is set to run the bases Tuesday and Boone said he is “very close to a return.” Jim McIsaac/Getty ImagesIf the Detroit Tigers are going to trade Nicholas Castellanos, he would prefer they do it soon rather than wait until after this season begins.Per Anthony Fenech of theDetroit Free Press,Castellanos鈥?agent, David Meter, explained where his client stands with the Tigers less than three weeks away from spring training."He wants to win and understands the direction of the franchise right now is to procure prospects," Meter, said. "That being said http://www.redsfanproshop.com/authentic-tom-seaver-jersey , he would rather start with his new club going into spring training."Castellanos is entering the final year of team control before hitting free agency next offseason. He's going to make $9.95 million in 2019 afteragreeingto a one-year deal earlier this month.Trade rumors have swirled around Castellanos for the past 12 months.Fenechreported in January 2018 the Tigers were "open" to dealing the 26-year-old after the two sides were unable to agree on a long-term extension. If the Tigers want to maximize their return for Castellanos, dealing him before the start of the regular season would make the most sense. His low salary this season would likely make it easier for him to fit into the budget for most teams in need of a right fielder.Castellanos set career-highs with a .354 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage in 2018. He's also hit over 20 home runs in each of the past two seasons.Detroit is in the midst of a long-term rebuild after losing 98 games last season. The best move for the franchise in 2019 will be adding as many future assets to its farm system.
The Denver Broncos throttle back Von Miller every summer because if they don't http://www.thebroncosfootballauthentic.com/domata-peko-jersey-authentic , in the words of coach Vance Joseph, "he'll wreck practice."So, Miller saved his wrecking ball for Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.Miller collected four quarterback hits, three sacks, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in leading the Broncos to a 27-24 win in Case Keenum's Denver debut .Miller was in the Seahawks' backfield seemingly as much as Seattle running back Chris Carson, who was pick-pocketed in the second half as Miller simply snatched the ball out of his hands in one of the best plays of opening weekend."Technically, that's not a good move," Miller said with a chuckle, noting he should have set the edge instead of tossing aside fullback Tre Madden."You want to be stout, shock and scare. But I 'ole'ed' outside, so I knew I needed to get back down to be able to make the tackle. I just saw the ball and I just grabbed it."Miller said in the lead-up to the opener that he hates playing Wilson, whom he considers the best QB in the game. Yes, ahead of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees http://www.thebroncosfootballauthentic.com/jeff-heuerman-jersey-authentic , the only three who were ranked higher in The Associated Press quarterback rankings that came out Friday."I still don't like playing against Russell," Miller said. "Running around out there, 20 yards, getting everybody tired. Luckily, we were able to get him before he could get started. That was in our scheme this week, we wanted to keep him in the pocket and (make) him beat us with his arm, which he's capable of doing."But we'd rather pick that poison and that strategy worked."Wilson threw for 298 yards and three TDs, but was picked off twice and sacked six times and ran just twice for 5 yards."He got out of the pocket a couple of times, but that's Russ," Miller said. "He's a great player. He's going to get out of the pocket, but we kept some of the great plays to a minimum."Miller didn't get to face Wilson in Super Bowl 48 because he'd blown out a knee toward the end of the 2013 season, the only one in his first seven years in the NFL when he didn't reach double digits in sacks.Miller was back in the Super Bowl two years later and won the game's MVP honors after harassing Cam Newton, whom he strip sacked twice, leading to 15 points in Denver's 24-10 win over the Panthers. The Broncos haven't been back to the playoffs since, going 14-18 over the past two years.Although Miller collected 23陆 sacks in that time Womens Royce Freeman Jersey , too many deficiencies on the roster and deficits on the scoreboard kept him from being the difference maker he was Sunday. That doesn't mean he saw his performance as anything more than a good start."You know me, I never move faster than I have to. I never move slower than I need to," Miller said. "I just stay in the moment. We've got a great team. We got a great win today. We played great defense. This is how you want to start a season."His three sacks moved him into 50th on the NFL's all-time sack list with 86陆."It's great, to be 29 and in the top 50, the league has been around for close to 100 years now," Miller said. "It's great, man. It's a true blessing."At one point Sunday, the giant scoreboard showed Miller inhaling oxygen on the sideline after one of his big plays and the crowd roared."I wasn't even paying attention and I look up and Case is telling everybody to be quiet," Miller recounted. "I kind of felt bad for a second."It wasn't the only time Miller interrupted Keenum's focus, either.Keenum normally spends his time between series on the bench studying pictures of formations and talking with to his coaches, "but it's hard not to notice when the crowd's going crazy and Von's out there crawling or whatever he's doing, whatever his sack dance is. That's impressive to watch."I'm glad I'm on the sidelines when he's on the field, that's for sure."Wilson wasn't so lucky."I think that when it's third-and-3 or 4, I've spun out and make a lot of plays," Wilson said. "I would probably say most of the time it works."With a guy like Von Youth Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , sometimes it doesn't."It’s been awhile since the Denver Broncos have beaten the Seattle Seahawks Once upon a time, the Denver Broncos dominated the Seattle Seahawks. In the not too distant past, Seattle squared off against Denver twice a year as just another AFC West opponent. In the NFL’s divisional realignment of 2002, the birds from the Northwest moved from AFC to NFC and things just haven’t been the same. Before Seattle’s AFC eviction, the Broncos commanded a 32-16 record against them. Since then, Denver has gone 2-3 with the last victory coming during a very dark stretch of Denver Broncos history. This, of course, overlooks the Broncos 0-2 postseason record against Seattle. No need to stir that up.The 2010 Denver Broncos, under head coach Josh McDaniels, were the most putrid Broncos team in decades. Shortly after a series of embarrassing losses and a cheating scandal, Josh McDaniels’ tenure came to an end with four games to go in the season. Kyle Orton was benched in favor of rookie quarterback Tim Tebow and soon, the season soon came to a merciful end. The last time the Denver Broncos won a game against the Seattle Seahawks was week 2 of that disastrous year. Seattle’s loss would represent a third of Kyle Orton’s victories and just a quarter of all Broncos wins that season. The 4-12 record the Denver Broncos managed in 2010 is a historic lowpoint of bad football in the city of Denver. On September 19, 2010 the Seahawks came to Invesco Field at Mile High and were never really in the game. Matt Hasslebeck’s Seahawks were shut out for the first half and scored just one touchdown in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Kyle Orton’s Denver Broncos, on the other hand, were able to get the most of out of their 1.7-yards per carry and managed Womens Garett Bolles Jersey , incredibly, to get rushing touchdowns from both Correll Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno. Not to be outdone, even Orton found himself lofting a 21-yard touchdown to rookie Demaryius Thomas. Champ Bailey, Perrish Cox, and Brian Dawkins should be credited with this victory as they each hauled in a Hasselbeck interception during the game. It has been nearly 8-years since the Denver Broncos have beaten the Seattle Seahawks. The perennial punching bag of the AFC West appears to have turned the table on their old divisional foe. This Sunday when Seattle comes to Denver, I believe they’ll face a more dynamic iteration of the orange and blue than they faced in September 2010. I’m expecting another defensive domination, plenty of rushing yards, and, yes, another Demaryius Thomas touchdown. It’s time for the Seahawks to remember just where they came from. Here’s hoping the Denver Broncos remind them every step of the way.
Report: Chiefs were closing in on a trade for Seahawks safety Earl Thomas The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Denver Broncos tonight on Monday Night Football. The odds appear stacked against the Broncos but the Chiefs have already suffered one major loss before tonight’s game even started. According to reports Youth Darian Stewart Jersey , the Kansas City Chiefs were closing in on a deal for All-Pro safety Earl Thomas and were preparing to clear cap space to acquire him. However, Thomas suffered a lowered leg fracture during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and will now miss the rest of the season. This is a tough-luck move for Thomas, Seahawks, and the Chiefs. Any trade of Thomas likely ended with a long-term deal with that traded team so Thomas lost out on the deal he has been looking for. The Seahawks lose out on receiving compensation(a 2nd or 3rd rounder) for Thomas who may walk for nothing in free agency. Finally http://www.authenticsdenverbroncos.com/cheap-justin-simmons-jersey , the Chiefs miss out on adding an All-Pro safety to their secondary that ranks among the worst in the entire NFL. It’s a tough luck deal for everybody involved. Thankfully for the Broncos, who already faced Thomas this season, he won’t be coming to the AFC West this year and the Chiefs defense will remain leaky. We will see if Case Keenum and the Broncos offense can take advantage of the Chiefs defensive woes tonight, but at least they won’t be getting Earl Thomas.Broncos at Jets - Live Blog The Denver Broncos (2-2) are desperate for a win on the road against the New York Jets (1-3). The east coast has not been kind to the Broncos as they have a putrid road record when travelling to the eastern time zone. However http://www.authenticsdenverbroncos.com/cheap-connor-mcgovern-jersey , if they are going to steal a win on the east coast they should be able to do it against these Jets. Sam Darnold has not played well to start his career and his tendency to panic under pressure should give the Broncos defense some opportunities for the big play.Offensively, the Broncos currently sport the second longest streak of not scoring 30 points in a game at 18. They need a big offensive performance, if only get their confidence back on track. Case Keenum has struggled mightily to start the season, so he needs to start showing that he belongs.Broncos vs. Jets live updatesGame Info / Live UpdatesEverything we know Tweets from https://twitter.com/MileHighReport/lists/the-broncos-beat
The Seattle Seahawks offensive line was as Seattle Seahawks offensive line as they could get in the first two weeks Authentic J.R. Sweezy Jersey , surrendering 12 sacks against Russell Wilson vs the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears. At least, that’s pretty much what we assumed was the problem given the two-year history of Germain Ifedi and the task of blocking potential Hall of Fame pass rushers in Von Miller and Khalil Mack. Issues ran deeper as the team was without free agent guard D.J. Fluker and was suffering through potential growing pains of second-year guard Ethan Pocic. Then Fluker returned, J.R. Sweezy took over for Pocic on the left side, and Wilson has gone from six sacks per game to less than two. And whether you recognized it at the time or in hindsight, part of the issue in those 12 sacks was not the play of Ifedi necessarily, but likely had something to do with how much Wilson trusted himself (probably a little too much) and his receivers (too little). And Miller and Mack. And waiting for Brian Schottenheimer’s playcalling to make even a little bit of sense. The fear was that it wouldn’t be getting any better any time soon with this upcoming slate of pass rushers: DeMarcus Lawrence, Chandler Jones, and Aaron Donald. Especially Donald, who in last season against the Seahawks had three sacks (all in the 42-7 blowout) seven QB hits and four tackles for a loss. In Jones’ last game against Seattle he had two sacks, three tackles for a loss, and three QB hits, plus a sack in their first matchup of the year. Last season, Lawrence had a sack and two QB hits vs Wilson. And by the way Authentic Bobby Wagner Jersey , all three of these players are still elite, with Jones and Lawrence at 5.5 sacks and Donald at four. They just weren’t as elite against Seattle, a game most of them likely had marked on the calendars as “time to bump the bonus checks!”Instead, the Seahawks haven’t just bought Wilson an extra quarter of a second, they’re maybe protecting him as well as any team in the NFL is protecting their quarterback. Yes, you are still alive and in the universe you were yesterday — I think. I actually have no idea. Maybe I’ve crossed into a pro-Seattle o-line universe, which, if we’re being honest, is a pretty unexciting place to cross into. Why couldn’t I go to the universe where sweets are good for you and veggies are fatty?According to ProFootballFocus, the Seahawks are the number one team in the NFL since Week 3 at pass blocking efficiency. Number one.Among those 13 pressures, there are seven sacks:Sean Lee and Lawrence shared a sack of WilsonJaylon Smith got oneJones got oneHaason Reddick got oneDonald got oneNdamukong Suh got oneArden Key got oneKey is the only player among them who is not elite or a high draft pick, and even some saw Key as a top pass rusher who could be in the first round though he ended up in round three. Duane Brown, Justin Britt Authentic Doug Baldwin Jersey , Sweezy, Fluker, and Ifedi have faced a difficult string of defenses (and the Oakland Raiders) and managed to pass with an A+.That’s wild. While many would like to bring up a dude who does not coach in Seattle anymore as the sole reason for this, instead this is likely because of a few factors:Brown was added in the middle of 2017 and the Seahawks offensive line improved to being at least mediocre during that transition. He’s a very good left tackle and that’s why he was costly. You can’t deny that Brown is a massive upgrade over Rees Odhiambo or George Fant.Fluker was added.Sweezy, a player molded by the last offensive line coach, was added.Ifedi was going into year three, a time when many young players, often offensive linemen, take further steps towards being quality starters. The first two years of coaching he had was not throwing out the window. He wasn’t MIB’d and reset. He’s been coached in Seattle for three years, not just beginning in August.Schottenheimer’s offense is making a little more sense week by week. The receiving weapons seem to be better this year than previous years and have improved every week.A low number of actual dropbacks. Yes, that’s a part of it too ...Seattle has the fourth-fewest pass attempts since Week 3 (96) despite playing in four games and not three, as many of the others at the bottom of the rankings have. The Seahawks do not intend to throw the ball a lot this year, getting back to where they were around 2012 (32nd in pass attempts) Womens Earl Thomas III Jersey , 2013 (31st), and 2014 (32nd). After ranking 28th in attempts in 2015, they were 18th in 2016, and 16th in 2017; much of that has to do with the fact that Seattle was just a worse team in those seasons (lose more, pass more), but there is philosophy and intent tied in there too.Play better defense. Keep scores low as opposed to high. Play longer timed drives with fewer plays. Get to the point where you only run it in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks are probably somewhat better at pass blocking in these last four weeks because they’ve had more opportunities to call passes at the times and in the situations where they know they’ll have their high-percentage shots of a successful pass play rather than forcing it.The Seahawks have not had to force it as much in these last four games. Wilson had 69 pass attempts in Weeks 1 and 2, as compared to 96 in the last four weeks, an NFL-low average of 24 attempts a game. Increase the number of times you pass, increase the opportunities for the defense to pressure you.Not that we shouldn’t be praising the job done by these five players, because it is as impressive as it is unexpected. Seattle still ranks 26th in money spent at the offensive line position in 2018 and this was the first time since 2013 that the team didn’t draft a single offensive lineman in the first four rounds. The only lineman they did draft, Jamarco Jones, is on injured reserve. So deserved props to Mike Solari for overseeing a much better performance from this all-important group in 2018. It’s a much more pleasant venture for him I’m sure than 2017, when he coached the New York Giants to one of the worst seasons by an o-line in their history. Because the Giants didn’t have any talent.Right now Womens K.J. Wright Jersey , by all accounts, the Seahawks somehow do. The 2018 NFL season is over, but in an era of needing to funnel content out at all times, ESPN has already provided us with extremely early predictions for the 2019 NFL season. Their panel of columnists and analysts were asked who would win Super Bowl 54 in Miami, as well as who would be league MVP.This is behind the ESPN Insider/ESPN+ paywall, so I can’t give you everything, but I will give you the Seahawks related snippets. Kevin Seifert is going bold by having Russell Wilson as the 2019 regular season MVP, citing his excellent 2018 campaign despite a run-first approach. Now I’m of the opinion that the Seahawks offense’s consistent habit of starting slowly just about eliminates Wilson from the MVP race before it can really begin. I imagine he’d have gotten votes in the 2015 season if they didn’t go the entire first-half of the season without scoring more than two offensive touchdowns in a game. But hey, trends can be broken, and if the Seahawks passing offense gets into gear early in 2019 and keeps that pace up, we could see Wilson in that MVP conversation.Unsurprisingly, Patrick Mahomes topped the predictions tally, with four of nine panelists picking the Kansas City Chiefs star to repeat as league MVP. Aaron Rodgers was the only other QB to receive more than one vote http://www.seattleseahawksteamonline.com/ethan-pocic-jersey , while other MVP predictions went to Drew Brees and Andrew Luck.As for the “way too early” Super Bowl LIV pick? Well again, very early, free agency hasn’t started, but why the hell not? Former Seahawks beat writer Mike Sando, now an ESPN senior NFL columnist, has got Seattle in the Super Bowl... except they lose to the New England Patriots again. The other predictions included the Los Angeles Chargers over the Chicago Bears (from Matt Bowen), the New Orleans Saints over Houston Texans (Dan Graziano), and unsurprisingly multiple analysts went with the Kansas City Chiefs over the Los Angeles Rams, while KC Joyner went Rams over Chiefs. Yes, KC picked KC to lose.I’m sure we’ll be bringing up national media prognostications throughout the offseason, so this is just the start. Will anyone dare pick a terrible season for the Seahawks again? You’re all on notice.
Seahawks promote TE Darrell Daniels to active roster The Seattle Seahawks had three vacant roster spots to fill following a pair of season-ending injuries and the suspension of Mychal Kendricks http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-michael-dickson-jersey , and now they’ve filled all three. In addition to the signings of safeties Maurice Alexander and T.J. Green, the Seahawks confirmed that University of Washington alum Darrell Daniels has been promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. With rookie TE Will Dissly out for the season with a patellar tendon rupture, and Ed Dickson not scheduled to make his Seattle Seahawks debut until Week 8, the team needed another tight end on the active roster besides Nick Vannett. Daniels spent his rookie season with the Indianapolis Colts, but was traded to the Seahawks for Marcus Johnson prior to the start of this year’s regular season. He was waived just a few weeks later but eventually signed to the practice squad, and now he’ll almost certainly be getting a few snaps against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend. The promotion of Daniels meant that the Seahawks have a spot freed up on the practice squad, but they’ve taken care of that by adding cornerback Kalan Reed, formerly of the Tennessee Titans. Reed (along with Maurice Alexander) was one of several players who worked out for the Seahawks on Monday. Prepare yourself for facts. Some of these suckers may even be factoids. Let us compare Russell Wilson to Dak Prescott, statistically. As Deep PassersIn any given snap in which a passing play is called, a quarterback may: throw an on-time pass, throw late, throw early, throw shallow, throw deep, throw accurately, throw inaccurately, throw into coverage, throw to an open man, and of course scramble. A good quarterback throws on time and accurately to a deep (enough) target who is more or less open. That of course is not always his choice, but it’s more or less the universal definition of a good quarterback. Short passes are not very valuable. Late passes are likely to be defended. Errant passes invite a host of bad possibilities. Scrambling can redefine what is “on time Bradley McDougald Jersey ,” along with helping receivers get open, but of course it is typically harder to throw deep while on the run. Etc.My point is, if you wanted to know why the Seahawks rank sixth in passing efficiency while the Cowboys rank 26th, looking at where Prescott and Wilson target, and at what rate of completion, would be a good start. So let us:Dak Prescott SplitsPasses thrown 21-30 Yards: 7/23, 271 Yards, 1 Touchdown, 1 InterceptionIncluded in that 271 yards and accounting for that touchdown is this accurate pass to Amari Cooper who is tripled covered.Passes thrown 31-40 Yards: 5/14, 253 Yards, 4 Touchdowns, 0 InterceptionsThis is the range at which Prescott has been most dangerous this season.Passes thrown 41+ Yards: 1/4, 44 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, and 0 InterceptionsRussell Wilson SplitsPasses thrown 21-30 Yards: 20/42, 561 yards, 9 Touchdowns, 1 InterceptionRight away we see a pretty stark difference. Wilson attempts more of these middle-deep passes and completes them at a much higher rate.Passes thrown 31-40 Yards: 7/13, 297 yards, 1 Touchdown Authentic J.R. Sweezy Jersey , 0 InterceptionsPasses thrown 41+ Yards: 4/7, 187 yards, 4 touchdowns, 0 InterceptionsWilson completed 50% of his deep passing attempts, which is astounding. Prescott completed 31.7%.In one season Wilson completed more passes of 41+ than Prescott has over his three year career. While Prescott attempts more short passes and completes those passes at a higher rate of efficiency, short pass attempts on average actually cost an offense value. There’s a reason we have lots of vaguely emasculating ways of describing this penchant like dink-and-dunk and captain checkdown. The problem does not seem to be in Jason Garrett’s system either. Both Brian Schottenheimer and Garrett run a system which may wear the “Air” epithet, as both are indirect descendants of Don Coryell’s Air Coryell system, which greatly emphasizes downfield passing. Nor did the arrival of Amari Cooper change Prescott’s nature. Prescott just does not seem to be a very skilled or talented deep passer, and his reluctance is probably a result of that deficit. In the PocketThe NFL’s Next Gen Stats site is besieged by bugs and barely usable. Which is really too bad because some of what the site records is unique and potentially very informative. Nevertheless let us muddle through and see if we can further flesh out this statistical portrait of both passers. Both rank within the top ten in what is called “Time to throw.” Basically this means both quarterbacks take forever to pass the ball, either because of indecisiveness, an inability of their receivers to get open, an offense dominated by slow-developing routes, a tendency to only target slow developing routes, scrambling or really just a totally unintelligible mix of all of those factors. It does not necessarily tell us much about their protection, but it does seem to indicate which quarterbacks are rhythm passers and which are not.Rhythm guysDerek CarrBen RoethlisbergerDrew BreesAndy DaltonTom BradyPhilip RiversAndrew LuckMatthew StaffordHold and Hope Guys/ScramblersJosh AllenLamar JacksonRussell WilsonDeshaun WatsonAaron RodgersJared GoffSam DarnoldPatrick MahomesDak PrescottBoth Wilson and Prescott get sacked a ton. When either is sacked, it’s often going to lose big-time yardage. Wilson and Prescott both ranked bottom five for most yards lost through sacks. Both fumble very frequently. Dak is in fact last in the NFL having fumbled 12 times. Wilson has ten.A few things separate these often sacked quarterbacks. Wilson has time. Seattle ranked seventh overall in ESPN’s pass rush win rate, while Dallas didn’t finish in the top ten. And Wilson, counter-intuitively, is sacked most while his team is winning. For obvious reasons, sack percentage tends to decrease when a quarterback is winning. This season Prescott has only been sacked on 5.2% of snaps while his team was in the lead. He has been sacked on 9.6% of all pass attempts Youth Sebastian Janikowski Jersey , ranking sixth from worst in the NFL. Wilson, astoundingly, has been sacked on 16.7% of all pass plays while his team is leading. His overall rate is 10.7%. I would guess Wilson views a sack taken as a relatively minor loss compared to risking a turnover through a bad pass. I would also guess few quarterbacks have ever matched his tendency to get sacked while leading. 129 of his 299 career sacks have occurred while the Seahawks were leading, in only 1,169 pass attempts, for a pretty wicked 10.8% career sack rate while ahead. Something to watch for if Seattle creates but fails to maintain a lead. Managing the game may be Wilson’s greatest weakness. As ScramblersPreviously great all-time scramblers, Prescott and Wilson are now reluctant scramblers. Prescott, in particular, really stopped scrambling effectively following “a major blow to [the] head” in Week 7.Weeks 1-740 attempts for 236 yardsWeeks 9-17 35 attempts for 69 yardsThe Cowboys rushing offense tanked at the exact same time.Weeks 1-719.49 EPA (which would prorate to third place in front of the Panthers)Weeks 9-17-6.74 EPA (. . . to 21st place behind the Dolphins)Wilson has gone the opposite way.Weeks 1-8, 1721 runs for 75 yardsWeeks 9-1646 runs for 301 yardsWeeks 1-8, 17-3.63 EPA (. . . 19th place behind the Browns)Weeks 9-1625.41 EPA (. . . second behind the Rams)I picked out those weeks through intuition, I should note. Facing the Chargers, Wilson seemed to scramble confidently again. In Week 17, he uh throttled down. Also these stats are not opponent adjusted, but they’re not cooked either. I simply followed my intuition and looked. I haven’t time to cook anything but food for myself and my wife. I am perhaps the foremost proponent of the idea that a scrambling quarterback improves the overall rushing attack, and so the above may be loaded with confirmation bias. Criticize away, I don’t blame you. Conclusions David Byrne in his inimitable yet often imitated way, um, rapped:Facts are simple and facts are straight...Facts just twist the truth aroundFacts are living turned inside out...Facts continue to change their shapeAnd I was mindful of that ... fact before writing this. That is the fact that facts are often slippery and deceitful. I try to make this column a performance. It is a crowded universe for Seahawks coverage and NFL coverage in general, and I never developed a specialty I could put on my non-existent business card. I want to make following the Seahawks a little more fun and in the time I have I do what I am capable of to achieve that.Saturday’s game will be a performance. What specific talents and abilities prove definitive are impossible to accurately project. I belong to a generation which I think doesn’t much understand performance http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-barkevious-mingo-jersey , and is inclined to thinking that an author writing a bad book, or a director making a bad movie, or a band making a bad song, &c. is a testament to some profound failure of character. Maybe this isn’t a generational thing but a consumer-driven culture thing, but the more you try your very best, the less inclined you are to think others failed by your estimation because of a defect in character. It is incredibly hard to do well at almost anything worth doing, not least because the competition for anything worth doing is crazy tough.Dak Prescott is a damn good quarterback, but he may not be a very good NFL quarterback. He’s not much of a deep passer and that’s little changed in his short career. That is not to say he can’t throw deep or that he won’t throw deep effectively; or that he won’t rush effectively; or that Seattle will clearly have the better performance from their quarterback on Saturday. But in his third season and especially in the second half of that season, Prescott has been throwing short, and short of the sticks; he has cut way down on his scrambling, scrambling less effectively, and leading a much less effective rushing offense; he has bled sacks and fumbles; and that has resulted in a bad individual performance and a bad team performance for the Cowboys offense.Russell Wilson is a damn good quarterback, and he may soon be the best quarterback in the NFL. He was a great deep passer from snap one and is now perhaps the best deep passer in the league. That is not to say he will be effective on Saturday; or that he will run effectively or at all; or that Seattle will clearly have the better performance from their quarterback. But in his seventh season and especially in the second half of that season, Wilson has been throwing deep, or at the sticks if needed; he has found a way to scramble effectively individually and in a manner which helps his overall rushing attack; he has bled sacks and fumbles; and that has resulted in a top ten performance individually and as a part of a top ten offense. That’s goddamn hard to do. Failure is as easy as yielding to gravity. So while I’m here projecting stuff, sizing people up with numbers and rankings, I feel inclined to say: Saturday is another performance. Perhaps the first in a long run of incredible success for Prescott. Perhaps ... nah, Wilson’s gonna kill it.
The 2018 NFL Playoffs continue today with perhaps the best weekend of NFL action all year. The divisional round kicks off with the Indianapolis Colts taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in snowy Kansas City. This one looked to be a barn burner Womens Eric Tomlinson Jersey , a classic shootout between two elite quarterbacks in Andrew Luck and Patrick Mahomes. Then, weather. It’ll be a bit difficult to produce a shootout in a snowstorm, but this one still promises loads of fun NFL action. The 11-6 Indianapolis Colts come into tonight’s game on a wildly improbable playoff run. This team was 1-5 after six games, coming off a devastating loss to the New York Jets and all but buried in the playoff race. Since that low point in the season the Colts have reeled off 10 wins in their last 11 games, including a wild card playoff win over the Houston Texans last week. The Colts are led by a resurgent Andrew Luck, who came all the way back from a career threatening arm injury this year to return to the ranks of elite NFL quarterbacks. With an excellent offensive line finally in place to protect Luck and a top running back finally helping out in Marlon Mack the Colts are a fun team to watch.Standing in the way of the Colts continuing their improbable run are the Kansas City Chiefs, AFC West champions and the #1 seed in the AFC. The 12-4 Chiefs feature precious little in the way of defense, but they have a wildly entertaining and prolific offense led by sophomore sensation Patrick Mahomes at quarterback. Mahomes is a top MVP candidate, having thrown for a ridiculous 50 touchdowns, leading the most prolific offense in the NFL. Pro Bowl targets Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce help Mahomes make this Chiefs offense nearly impossible to stop. Perhaps the snow will do what opponents have been unable to do and slow down the Chiefs juggernaut. We start the divisional round with a gem of a matchup between two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. It’s the Colts and the Chiefs http://www.jetsfootballauthentics.com/spencer-long-jersey-authentic , Andrew Luck and Patrick Mahomes putting on a show to start off the weekend. Grab a seat, get some popcorn and enjoy the show everybody. Pro Football Focus grades are stupid*, unless they praise the Jets, in which case they’re brilliant. This is such an obvious statement it hardly bears mentioning. This week Pro Football Focus deviated from its weekly stupid stature and against all odds morphed into brilliance beyond compare. It’s been said many times already, but the New York Jets week 5 victory over the Denver Broncos was a total team effort. This is reflected in the PFF Week 5 NFL Team of the Week. In a rare and wondrous occasion, the Jets placed three players on the Team of the Week; one on offense, one on defense, and one on special teams. On offense, Isaiah Crowell’s record setting 219 yard effort earned him PFF honors, as Crowell earned the second highest PFF grade of the week by an offensive player. On defense Womens Isaiah Crowell Jersey , you might have expected Leonard Williams to make an appearance here. If so, you would be barking up the wrong tree. Morris Claiborne takes the honors as PFF’s so called flex player on defense, getting credit for his four passes defended on the day.Rounding out the honorees is Andre Roberts on special teams in recognition of his 51 yard punt return and 17.8 yard punt return average for the day.Three Jets players honored by PFF in one week, covering all three phases of the game, is a rare case of keen insight and uncommon sagacity we probably won’t see again from PFF, which is of course ordinarily dumb as rocks* on a weekly basis because they don’t praise Jets players enough. Since we are unlikely to see such a display of blinding brilliance at least for another blue moon or two, enjoy the fleeting feeling of basking in PFF’s uncharacteristic adulation.*Any references herein to the intelligence, or lack thereof, of PFF or any individuals employed thereby or associated therewith are intended as parody.
